Volkswagen GTI owners have reported 17 problems related to clutch pedal/linkage (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Clutch master and slave cylinder failed at 34,700 miles. Because hydraulic fluid contaminated clutch plate and flywheel those were also replaced. Failure occurred at low speeds on a commercial street. Symptoms: clutch pedal dropped to the floor and would not come back up. Hydraulic fluid leaked out from under the car.

The engine suddenly stalled with the clutch pedal fully depressed as I came to a stop from a slow speed. Then, as I tried to restart the engine with the clutch pedal fully depressed, the engine started with a very unsteady idle and stalled again. I repeated this process four times, and then the fifth time, applied the gas pedal during the unsteady idle, and the car was able to run again. This entire process did not cause a check engine light, and I have not been able to reproduce the issue.

I have a 2019 Volkswagen Gti 6 speed manual transmission. While I was out running errands to the local food store and hardware store, I came to a complete and full stop at a stop sign. At this time the car was in neutral with the clutch pedal disengaged and the brake pedal depressed. I noticed the car had a soft stall. This happened a total of about 6 times. It is almost as if the car has the auto stop feature that turns the engine off at a full and complete stop but my car is not equipped with that option. I feel as if the engine is the problem because it is cutting off. I also feel it could be the transmission thinking that the car is in a different gear and not enough rpms to sustain that gear. I also feel it could be a vacuum leak which is not sending the right signals to the engine computer or something else. At the time of this happening it was sunny and in mid fifties in temperature.

Tl the contact owns a 2019 Volkswagen Gti. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled while depressing the clutch pedal. Also, the gear shift displayed the wrong gear position intermittently. The contact stated that both of the failures occurred without warning. The contact took the vehicle to leith Volkswagen of cary (2300 auto park blvd, cary, nc 27511, (919) 297-1640) to have the software updated, but the update failed to produce any results. The contact discovered that the defect was currently part of NHTSA action number: dp19003 (engine, power train). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 300.
Tl-the contact owns a 2019 Volkswagen Gti. The contact stated that while pulling into a park area with the clutch fulled in, the vehicle stalled without warning. In addition, that while depressing on the accelerator pedal and after the third attempt the vehicle was able to restart. The contact mentioned that the failure was the same as NHTSA action number: dp19003. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure continued. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 101. Ak.
When at idle or coming to a stop, with the car in neutral and the clutch pedal not engaged the vehicle will soft stall and require a key turn to start the motor again. This has happened several times on a brand new vehicle. 6spd manual.
When coming to a stop, and pressing on clutch pedal, car intermittently cuts off power.
Vehicle with an intermittent stall in the six speed manual transmission. Stalls occurs when decelerating with the clutch pedal depressed. So far, this has occurred on city streets at low rolling speeds in the midst of a left hand turn. A full stop (as when waiting for oncoming traffic to pass) does not occur before onset of the stall, rather the stall has occurred midway through the rolling turn as the brake pedal is released, the gear selected, and clutch pedal released. In every instance in which the stall has initially occurred, the power loss occurs while my vehicle is in the lane of oncoming traffic, with only the momentum of the car propelling me out of the lane. In the most recent incident, the stall repeated after two attempts to restart the vehicle with the clutch pedal depressed. After turning the ignition fully off, then restarting the vehicle, the stall occurred a third time. After letting the vehicle sit for a period of about 20 minutes, the car started and functioned without incident.
The vehicle I have purchased stalls softly frequently. It usually stalls when coming to a stop from a low speed. It also stalls while the gear is in neutral and coming from a stop. The stalling also has occurred while the clutch pedal is fully pressed. Volkswagen needs to address this concern ASAP. This affects the safety of the driver and the people around me.
Vehicle was purchased on 5/27/19. Vehicle has just over 1000 miles. Issue first started day after the purchase. The vehicle's engine will intermittently stall after coming to a stop. The nature of the stall is subtle, not jerky. Almost like a auto start/stop feature on a vehicle with an auto transmission (my Gti has a 6-speed manual). This has happened 10 times now. Ive had it happen with the clutch pedal pressed (clutch disengaged) and the vehicle gear shifter in neutral and also in gear. Ive also had it happen with the clutch pedal not pressed (clutch engaged) and the gear shifter in neutral. Car restarts fine, but this is definitely a safety issue that can lead to accidents.
2019 Gti se 6mt. Car soft stalls - rpm drops to zero (without jerking motion) at random intervals when coming to a complete stop with clutch pedal fully depressed. Pressing the start/stop button starts the engine again and the car operates as normal. Car is at operating temperature, ambient outside temperature was approximately 70 degrees. Behavior is not readily reproducible. Car has approximately 350 miles on the odometer with a build date of 1/19.
I have a 2019 Gti rabbit edition with manual transmission. The car will stall out at random times while coming to a rolling stop while the clutch pedal is pressed all the way down. It seems to happen on a warmed up engine. It doesn't happen all the time, but at random times when I come to a rolling stop. It's a very quiet stall and sometimes you don't even realize it stalled out.
The clutch operation in my 2015 volkswage Gti (6 speed manual transmission) is malfunctioning to such a degree that I was almost in an accident and now fear for my safety. Clutch operation in the vehicle has become unpredictable, when depressed the clutch pedal will remain on the floor after the pedal is released, thus preventing the vehicle from accelerating. This has happened multiple times while stationary in traffic, while in motion and while accelerating. Most recently while attempting to merge onto a busy highway the clutch pedal stuck to the floor, this nearly forced me to take evasive steps into a construction zone. After this incident I brought the vehicle to the Volkswagen dealership for diagnosis and service. I have heard of several alarmingly similar reports from other 2015 Gti owners where the cause of the issue was a failed engine bearing that results in side-to-side crankshaft movement in the engine.

I was driving down the road and was coming to a stop sign. I had the clutch all of the way in and shifted into neutral while slowing down I put it into 1st gear with the clutch all the way in and the clutch engaged, causing the car to jerk violently. It went from 2200 rpm to over 6000 immediately. After getting stopped and in neutral I released the clutch pedal for it to stay slammed to the floor. It would not go into first easily with the clutch all the way in.

I had a total loss of clutch hydraulic pressure on 6 speed manual transmission. The pedal was stuck to the floor and I had to move it back up with my hand. I then depressed it again with my foot and the same results. I've done some research on vw enthusiast web sites seeing itã‚s a common problem amongst 6 speed manual transmission . From that conclusion I figured it was either the master cylinder or slave cylinder. I had the car towed to the dealer, and it was discover a bad slave cylinder. Obviously it is a trend and a costly one at that. Since the slave cylinder is located in the bell housing, it leaked hydraulic fluid all over my clutch. So now I have to replace a perfectly good clutch.

During cold weather (below 20 degrees f), the clutch gradually gets closer & closer to the floor & will not pop back up. I am not able to shift when this problem occurs - the one thing I have been able to do is reach down, pull-up the clutch pedal & then it will work. This problem has happened at least 6 & the car is at the dealer right now getting fixed fro the second time. I bought the car new about a month ago & it has only 1100 miles on it.
