Volkswagen GTI owners have reported 5 problems related to transmission gear slipping (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I own a 2007 vw Gti with mechatronic dsg. I was in an intersection when the transmission slipped acting like it was in neutral but the pnrds was flashing. The car had no acceleration or rpm's. Traffic was dogging me and 15 cars almost hit me due to this faulty transmission incident. I called vw of America and they informed me my car is out of warranty. Also they informed me that my year make and model has no recall or problems with the dsg transmission. Vw of America said since my car is not a certified vw from their dealers it isn't covered for a recall or factory warranty. I feel completely unsafe and un satisfied how the regional manger of safety from vw of America handled this situation. She was not friendly or understanding at all.

Came to complete stop. Pressed on gas pedal to move forward into intersection. After automatic transmission shifted into 2nd, the car loss all engagement and felt as if it was in neutral. I stepped on the gas pedal further and after 5 seconds, the engine rpm"s increased and the transmission lunged forward. I am unsure if it was the dsg transmission slipping into neutral, or a throttle issue. Dealer replaced mechatronic unit which did not alleviate this frequent problem.

I have a 2002 Volkswagen Gti with approximately 42000 and discovered my manual transmission was slipping in every gear. After bringing my car to lindsay Volkswagen in sterling, va, I was informed that the problem was bad clutch and that the repair would not be covered under my warranty. After some research online, I have discovered several identical situations of other owners of 2002 volks Gti 1. 8t manual and the company's refusal to cover it under warranty or investigate why a clutch needs to be replaced at under 45,000 miles. Accordingly, I can attest that I operate my vehicle in a safe and legal manner and in accordance with what a reasonable person would consider competence and care.
