Volkswagen GTI owners have reported 4 problems related to engine oil leaking (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I am writing about my 2015 vw Gti. I am the second owner of this car. Like most Gti owners, I thought that it was a great car. I am the 2nd owner of this car, and I purchased the car about 18 months ago when it had about 25,000 miles on it. Over the past year, I have had numerous problems with oil leakage from the car. This past week, the check engine light went on again. The attached records show all the routine care and special care that I had to give this car during the past year. I took the car back to the same dealership and the dealership found pieces of pistons and the piston ring in the oil drip pan. The paper work is attached along with a picture. Who ever heard of pistons falling apart in a car that was well taken care of and with only 60,000 miles? this is preposterous. The technician at the dealership indicated that this was the third car this year on which he worked with the same problem. The car needs a new engine to a cost of at least $10,000. The car is not drivable anymore as it has no acceleration. The car is worthless unless someone wants to put in a new engine. I am sending this note to various government agencies to notify them of this obviously defective car. If I find out that other cars are having this problem suggesting a pattern of defects covered up by the manufacturer, I will hire a lawyer and seek legal redress. In the meantime, as an average worker who works for a living, I am off to buy a new car at a Honda dealership which hopefully will be more reliable. This will set me back an enormous amount of money which I cannot afford, especially since I still have payments to make on the 2015 Gti which right now is completely worthless.

The contact owns a 2003 Volkswagen Gti. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for 40,000 mile service. At that time, the contact was informed that there was an oil pan leak. The oil pan was aluminum and the oil pan drain bolt was made of steel, which has become stripped over a period of time. The stripped bolt was the cause of the oil leak. The contact would have to replace the oil pan at her expense. The current and failure mileages were 40,218.

On March 3, 2006, I went to the metro Volkswagen to have my inspection and an oil change done. The service rep told me I had a small hole in my oil pan, so I agreed to replace the pan. The next morning when I started my car it shut off three times. Since then, my car has shut off every time I start it. If I pull off before the car completely heats up, the car shuts off in mid drive. This causes me to pull over and restart the car and hold my foot on the gas in order to keep the car from shutting down. I have noticed water in my car on the driver's side floor (back), but I thought it was condensation caused from the plastic mat I keep under the drivers side rug. I received a recall notice in the mail and took the car in on may 25, 2006 for a fuel line, and hazard switch replacement. As of Friday, June 2, 2006, I've smelled gasoline when I turned my car on, and the rug in the back (drivers side) was soaked with water. It had not rained until 3:45 pm, and I had not driven the call all day except for that morning. Saturday June 3, 2006, I opened my driver side door to discover a huge puddle on the rear floor of the driver's side and the front rug and mat soaked with brown water. It was raining slightly but there was no leak coming from the windows, or the moon roof, and the top of the car (inside) was completely dry. I also smelled gasoline again which prompted my decision to call Volkswagen. I was told by a service rep to bring the car back in on June 5 2006.

I have a 2001 vw golf Gti. It is leaking oil from the engine's block head gasket. Being that it is under a 100k miles warranty I took it in to the vw dealer to have it fixed. I was alarmed that the dealer told me that the leak was a "small and normal leakage, just sipping. " the person at the counter told me I had nothing to worry because I was under warranty and "would get a new engine if anything happened to the one I have now. " can you please have vw explained to me how is that an engine block that leaks oil is "normal". In the end, I left b/c they would not service the car sinse it was "sipping" oil, thus acceptable according to the dealer.
