1 Battery Dead problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/24/2021

Started having electrical problems (random dashboard lights, doors, locks, windows wouldn't work, key fob battery died, etc) then I had to replace the battery. Continued electrical issues with new battery, passenger side window/door wouldn't operate or work at all. Needed master key fob to lock driver's side door but all other doors wouldn't lock with fob. Next, I am having issues with the car not starting, put another battery in it. From there random dashboard lights, dinging with drl and first few minutes of operating vehicle, and airbags lights are on. My mechanic sends me to a mechanic shop that specializes in vw. Mechanic replaces window manager and driver side door harness. Still find issues with airbags so I take my car to the dealership in st peters mo during a snow storm. Hand them all my paperwork, they go in and find that my car is being worked on and see that their are splices, connections butted, so they "fix" the airbags and send me on my way. However, I have a toddler in the backseat and she was able to open the doors while the vehicle was in motion, the windows stopped working, etc. Dealership cannot speak to other mechanic shop's work so they did the recalls needed (airbags) and replaced the harness, apparently again. I have all the receipts from the work, all the parts are in my trunk of my car, another appointment to see what the issue is. Car appears to be stuck in security mode but doesn't properly lock, not able to use child lock, and unable to protect vehicle safely with proper locking mechanism. I don't feel safe if there is an intruder or if my toddler were to try this stunt again, also concerned of the fuel issues I've been having. Replaced my gas cap in hopes I wouldn't see loss of fuel, and the car has a slight oil leak that no mechanic can seem to find. Unable to attach paperwork as the dealership has it at this time.

2 Battery Dead problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/19/2018

The major problem occurred shortly after my 30,000 mile check up, when my key got stuck in the ignition, and I could not turn the car off. I am aware this problem dates back to as early as 2012. I immediately contacted vw customer care since I was at approximately 36,400 miles to see if they would assist in replacing this part. In addition, I was charged 153. 63 for the diagnosis. Midday on September 21, 2018, I received a call from customer care denying my claim completely. I am aware that this is an ongoing problem, and should be under a recall status. I was also informed that vw has updated their ignition switch (replaced with an updated model number) so the replacement part will not cause problems. I feel like this was a ploy to get me to go to the vw dealership, so they may continue to profit over their past mistakes. I believe I have paid for something that should be covered under a recall or extended warranty. In addition, I had the battery fail at the 36,000 mile mark as well. I feel that I have had more trouble with this new car than any other car I have owned in the past, and I am not really thrilled as a first time vw owner.

3 Battery Dead problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/25/2016

Key got stuck in the ignition with motor running. Could not turn to "off" position. Although I could kill the motor by releasing the clutch (manual transmission), I still could not turn the key off and, therefore, would have to just let the battery die after many hours of sitting there with the key on. I could not leave the vehicle unattended as anyone could have gotten in, started it right up, and left with it. Did a google search and found that opinion placed the blame on a faulty ignition switch. Also discovered many others with this exact same problem who had to have their ignition switches replaced, so this is a known problem with Volkswagen.

4 Battery Dead problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/18/2016

Car was taken into dealership in April 2015 for inspection. Needed new struts and driver door panel, door needed fixed due to no lights on locks and door itself would not lock. Paid $1400 for everything when picking up the car, got in car and radio did not work when picking up. Said it was a fuse, never fixed the problem. September 2015 windshield wipers quit working. $45 for that repair. 2-3 weeks later battery died. Replaced the battery for $111. 3-4 weeks later battery was dead again, had to tow it to shop. Replaced battery again $200+ parts and labor. 3-4 weeks later after replacing the battery twice, same thing happens again. Car is dead, towed to shop again. Can't figure out the problem, towed to dealership. Taken to a dealership for one problem of the car being dead now there is a shifter problem and the abs unit needs replaced. The abs lights were not on while the car was at the last shop before this dealership. The car hasn't been driven for approximately 5-6 months if not longer due to these issues. How does my abs unit need replaced if it hasn't been driven?.

6 Battery Dead problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/16/2015

Pop sound, battery is dead, radio and navigation system is inoperable. This issues is with hundreds of 2010 Jettas.

7 Battery Dead problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/03/2015

While driving with approx. 50,000 miles, the radio popped and completely died. The radio, along with the hands free phone capability are now inoperable. The vehicle was taken to two (2) separate Volkswagen dealerships and each verified that the fuses were in tact and it was a faulty radio. The broken radio is actually still drawing power from the battery which causes frequent dead batteries. I have already replaced two (2) batteries in the last year. This poses a safety concern because the battery could die at anytime and leave the driver stranded. There have been numerous complaints about this same problem which warrants a recall before anyone else gets hurt.

8 Battery Dead problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 03/17/2015

This vehicle has been an electrical night mare. Started off around September of last year with an intermittent misfire. Dealer replaced intake assembly. A month later random cylinder misfires. It comes and goes with mil light coming on. Been in to dealer a couple times for this issue and they have not been able to resolve the issue. They keep wanting more money to diagnose. In January the battery kept dying. If it sat over night the battery would be dead. 1 year old battery. Had charging system checked at autozone and everything was good. This morning my wife went to drive car and the radio would not power up. So I started searching the web just like every other time we have had issues with this car. Turns out hundreds of 2010 models have had same issue and seems to lead on to more electrical issues down the road. I have had 15 year old vehicles with almost 300k miles and same factory radio in it working fine. I just traded off a 2001 explorer with 200k miles that ran better than this 5 yr old Jetta. Voa gave me a claim number and want me to take it to a dealer which is ridiculous because I will be charged diagnostics and will not be covered as it is a luxury item. What about all the other electrical issues they have been unable to resolve.

9 Battery Dead problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/06/2015

My blue-tooth/radio just stopped working, black screen. I was also having battery problems around that time, car battery would be dead at random times. It seems this is a common problem with 2010 vw.

10 Battery Dead problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/26/2010

Car had been operating normally all service performed and no notification from dealership. On 10/26/2010 was driving at posted speed limit on alhambra blvd in pleasant hill/martinez CA. Was coming down slight hill and touched accelerator to climb slight grad when the engine just stalled and shut down. There was no warning. Car could not be restarted. There was a small noise from the engine compartment and a shutter as the mechanical power steering failed when the engine stalled. The car was put on a flat bed by martinez pd and taken to a local shop where nothing was done except call the dealership. The dealership, dorito bro in walnut creek CA, required the car be flat bedded to them. The car was taken to the dealer ship on 10/27/2010 the dealership then informed me that the battery was shot and they could not even trouble shoot the problem with out a replacement battery. There had been no battery failure prior to this incident. The battery was replaced and the dealership could not tell what was wrong with the car. On 10/28/2010 they believed it was the fuel pump. The pump was replaced on 11/1/2010 and the car could still not be started. The dealership as of 11/2/2010 has opened up another tech ticket to try to resolve the problem. 11/3/2010 was informed by dealership that the fuel pump needed new bolts because the old bolts can not be reused due to the sensitive nature of the tdi motor. I asked if the fuel pump failed and contaminated the engine dealership said no.

11 Battery Dead problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

My 2002 vw Jetta tdi has many electrical problems. The one that might be a safety factor is the micro switches in the door latches. The doors with faulty switches don't know if there open or closed. When open the safety light on the door does not come on to alert oncoming vehicles that a door is open. If the switch stays on when the door is closed, the dome lights stay on until the battery is dead. The car dies in the freeway when running, it might be affecting the computer now. This has to be recall its a safety issue.

12 Battery Dead problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/01/2006

My 2002 vw Jetta tdi has many electrical problems. The one that might be a safety factor is the micro switches in the door latches. The doors with faulty switches don't know if there open or closed. When open the safety light on the door does not come on to alert oncoming vehicles that a door is open. If the switch stays on when the door is closed, the dome lights stay on until the battery is dead. The vw dealer just "jerked" me around until the warranty had expired. (fredericton vw). Since the part(s) for this repair are expensive, I feel that vw should recall all vehicles to replace the switches and door latches. Mel moir.

15 Battery Dead problem of the 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/10/2001

My frustration and fear at the fact that my brake switch has failed twice, my battery has died 3 times while with the dealer, and my brakes seized while driving on a major road and my alarm goes off constantly, is only compounded by the fact that vw has not one explaination for why any of this is happening. To tell me everything is "testing" fine certainly adds to this frustration because there's nothing they can fix when nothing is "wrong. " to that I say, o. K. Then, give this car to your loved one to drive and we'll see how safe you feel. Absurd -- will is take deaths for someone to do something?.

16 Battery Dead problem of the 1998 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/27/2001

Battery failed to have an acid release hose. Acid had dripped onto power steering reservoir & ate through it. This caused a loss of steering fluid, power steering, and control of vehicle.
