The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact was reversing 5 mph from a residential driveway when the eps and malfunction indicator warning lights illuminated on the dashboard. The dealer advised there was a defect in the electrical wiring and re-routed the wiring. On a separate occasion while attempting to start the vehicle, the steering wheel locked and the contact was unable to turn the key in the ignition. After several attempts, she was able to start the vehicle. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure and there were no repairs. The failure recurred three times. At a later date, while sitting idle with the brake depressed, the vehicle began to roll away. The contact then added more pressure to the brake pedal but the vehicle did not stop. The vehicle was shifted into park but to no avail. The contact then utilized the emergency brake but the vehicle continued to roll, gradually coming to a stop before lightly crashing into another vehicle. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but would not provide any assistance. The failure mileage and current mileages were approximately 4,500. Updated 11/16/10.

All dashboard lights illuminated and then the car died within sixty seconds. We were able to re-start the car after sitting for 30 minutes, only to have the same thing re-occur within two miles. There were no warnings, except for the illuminated lights, but this left no time to safely pull to the side of the road. This could have been a very tragic or fatal event if we were not on a local, neighborhood road.
No warning lights illuminated. Periodically the braking pressure was released and a pedal pulse was felt while stopping. The dealer stated that the problem to the abs pump leaked into the abs module. The consumer's daughter was unable to stop in a parking lot as a result of the brakes releasing causing her to hit another vehicle. The person in the other vehicle sought medical treatment.

The caller had the vehicle's electrical system replaced 5 times. The windows/the alarm system/the lights/the gauges, and the dashboard lights failed. As the caller indicated everything electrical malfunctioned. The caller was able to drive vehicle to the dealer, and a few times he had to have it towed. Dealer could never give him an answer why the vehicle was having these problems. The manufacturer said they could not help him for free, and since the problem included different components it did not fall under the lemon law. Manufacturer said that if the caller got a loan on the vehicle it would be a different situation.

Owner was driving Volkswagen for approximately 20 minutes and smelled a burning rubber odor. He started to notice whisks of smoke coming up from the center console area, around the gear shift. Fire burned the right side of the center console, the center front of the dash, and the corner of the right front seat.
While driving to work, my headlights, dashlights, heater/defrost, all went out and my e-brake light came on. Do to the conditions and the cold, my windshield fogged up extememly quickly and made it difficult to drive. This has happened many times since, almost on a daily basis. I figured out later on, that by moving the ignition switch around, everything went back to normal. I have not contacted the dealer about this due to my military schedule. I am deplpyed right now and am planning to contact the dealer in fargo as soon as I return.

While driving my car, 1996 Volkswagen Jetta GLS, from the store, I notice that the check engine light came on and then my thermostat started to go back and forward like it was out of control, then smoke came out of my vents inside of my car. I thought this was strange, that smoke(white smoke) came from inside my car, so I stopped the car and opened the hood, but nothing was burning from under the hood. I told my husband about this and we took it to our mechanic who diagnose that the wiring harness was gone or was burned out. I then asked him how much it would cost to get it fixed and he stated that this could be a costly job. I needed my car fixed so I took it to a european specialist auto shop and they fixed it for a cost of $800. 00 plus tax!!!!! this was outrageous, but I needed to get it fixed. Where can I call to get my refund??? this is entirely a lot of money!!!!!.

Numerous times that the engine light has come on my 2003 Jetta. First visit was 9/12/02. The others were: 2/21/03, 6/13/03, 10/21/04, 1/6/05, 12/14/05, 12/21/05, 1/9/06, 1/13/06. It is currently on and is waiting for a cat. Converter. They charged me to hook up to computer, replaced all coils & spark plugs and the light is still on.
While driving the air bag indicator light illuminated on the the dashboard, vehicle was taken to Volkswagen where consumer was informed that vehicles of this make and model needed a supplemental wiring harness installed in the steering column because of a problem with the connector as shipped from the factory, consumer is unaware of any recalls for this condition.
Dur to a short in the wiring electrical wiring was burnt from a & b pillars to the dash, numerous electrical problems. , no reasonable explanation for the burning of the wiring or the cause of the short. One month after the dealer fixed the problems, additional electrical problems were encountered. Dealer refused to stand behind first work. First dealer also felt interior fire and electrical failure was not a warranty item. Second repair bill was for $872 and that dealer wrote on the bill "once the car is registered in California repairs can be reimbursed". Car is registered in utah, see no reason state of registration should effect the warrenty. Called vw of America 800-822-8987 and they took the complaint, but have done nothing to this date and have provided no reasonable explaination for why work would be covered in one state but not another. Concerned about the possibility of interior fire if there are wiring defects in the car. Vw of America rfefused to provide history of wiring fires for Jettas.
Electrical systems failed and caused alarm to go off, power windows not to open or close. Took to mechanic, who replaced lock system which helped for awhile. Took it back again, and this time mechanic located electrical wires that had fused together under dash and were causing electrical failure.

Driving for 1/4 mile at about 20 mph - strong burning smell and smoke from under dash board - pulled over - turned car off - tried to start car after a few minutes but no electricity at all (completely dead). This could have been a very seriously incident on a conjested highway.
