Bought new vw Jetta sedan on 08/17/06. On 05/13/10 took the car to the dealer because of car decelerating while driving I. E. Dropping in seconds from 60 miles to 20 miles. It was taken to the dealer multiple times for the same problem. Dealer answer "unable to replicate problem" until warranty of four years expired. The problem continues even after the carbon accumulated on the throttle was cleaned and the fuel pump was replaced. Due to unsafe to drive, requested for the dealer to buy the car back as a lemon. The dealer refuses because the four yr warranty is over. Other problems experienced with this vehicle during this period: air bags lights going off, air bag cover falling off, trunk opening on its own while driving, rain water leaking inside the lining of the car, screws coming off a door panel, doors falling off the hinges, emergency switch falling inside panel, fuel cap not locking, recalls. Component: structure:body:door:hinge and attachments metal protector strip (molding) on rear passenger side door became unglued. When the door was opened, the strip scraped the front door, damaging paint on front passenger door, and the strip became bent. The metal strip on the other rear door also became unglued, but fortunately it occurred at the rear end, therefore has not scraped the front door. Volkswagen dealer refuses to repair under warranty, claiming that the strip became unglued due to "outside influences, such as washing the car.

Opened drivers door and the lower of the two bolts on the lower door secure hinge sheared off. The door has never been removed or repaired previously. The only way this could have happened is if the bolt were over tightened upon installation. The vehicle is past warranty and vw America will not pay for this replacement. This could be a serious problem if more bolts shear because of improper tightening. We base the over tightening suggestion on the opinion of three independent body repair shops, one of which specializes in Volkswagen repairs.

My 2003 vw Jetta tdi GLS sedan was parked on a summer day (approx. 100 degrees f). Upon returning to the vehicle, I noticed a waxy, greasy, yellow substance leaking from below the doors on both sides of the vehicle. Upon further examination, I discovered that the substance was leaking from between the inside surface of the door and the rubber weather stripping. Contacted my vw service dealer (dana motors, billings, mt), and they informed me that this was a common problem with vws during hot months, that the substance was an undercoating protectant that was sprayed on at the factory. They also told me that it was not necessary to have this protectant replaced. The stuff has continued leaking out on very hot days, usually only 95+ degrees. It is hard to remove but doesn't seem to have done any damage to the paint. I want to know if it's true that this stuff doesn't need to be replaced. What if it's a necessary lubrication and by leaking out will harm a part of the door assembly?.

Consumer stated driver's side door panel had a release button that released the gas flap door. This button kept falling inside the door panel. Consumer believed this was very unsafe, could run out of gas.
Plastic supports holding window lift unit in rear passenger door broke.
The windshield wipers were intermittent. The dealer stated the wipers were incompatible. The wipers did not work in cold weather and did not have the proper speed in warm weather. The driver side window had fallen down into the door, the locking mechanism had malfunctioned and was replaced, the metal triangle pieces on the doors had been replaced, the cruise control never worked from purchase, and the front brakes had to be replaced. The consumer would like to know if there was a recall on the wipers. (no recall for wipers) mr scc.
