Body Problems of Volkswagen Jetta - part 1

When I drive, the trunk pops open. Forward or reverse. No problems found with wiring in trunk or door but keeps happening. Began months ago and mechanics keep saying that they can't find anything wrong. Scary to drive.

When I start the car multiple times the car will throw over half of all the error code and could not start the vehicle. Driving in the highway doing 65mph with the cruise control on the car completely shut off and I had to limp it to the shoulder and was unable to start the car. Each time I cleared the fault codes then was able to start the car. If I didn’t have my scanner I would have had to get towed each time to the dealer. I see there is an ignition switch recall on the 2019 and the 2020 cars but for some reason I don’t see my 2020 included in that. Now the proximity sensor is at fault and I have to take it to the dealer again. Please let me know what I should do.

Because of recall, car was not engaged in park completely like it stated after I got out it rolled away down the hill and hit a tree, therefore the recall caused my accident. Yes the problem has been confirmed it is a recall. No it has not been inspected by dealer or police. Volkswagen will not engage in any further investigations they say it's my fault. There were no warning lamps.

I have a 2022 vw Jetta and my breaks lasted 13,400 miles, I have a daily commute of 11 miles and I believe this is not a normal condition on a car. The delaer refused to replace the breaks despite the eviden condition of low quality. In addition I have a problem in my door where the door does not close in case of really cold weather. I have a video but it I cannot upload.

When driving roughly 75mph on the interstate the passenger door opened on its own. No warning was shown for 10 minutes or 8 miles. When taken to get serviced I was told it was due to freezing from the cold weather and the latch couldn’t latch. This not only confused me because I’ve never had that issue with any vehicle but the vehicle also did not show a warning of it earlier. This was extremely scary due to the fact I had a passenger in the vehicle at the time who could have been injured or someone else could have.

Door unexpectedly does not close and latch correctly. Had to hold the car door the whole time driving. The driver door and passenger door has done it so far. This needs to look into.

Jan 2023-check engine light for oil came on-just had oil change November 21, 2022 and only went 3000 miles. No oil in engine so it was topped off at a local volkswagon satellite and inspected for leaks no leaks found. Mid Feb 2023 had to put 2 quarts oil in car and high pitch noise/humming coming from car when driving. Mar 2023 went to vw dealership and explained noise and oil. They said noise was bad wheel bearings and it was ok to drive until backorder came in to replace. Was told the oil consumption is normal for vw despite us telling them it’s not normal consumption and they told us to read the owners manual. They couldn’t find leak, they topped it off and sent us on our way. April,may 2023 humming noise louder and a creaky, clanking, cricket chirp noise began and gear shifting became delayed. Made an appoint with vw dealership for June 2023 for wheel bearings to be replaced and told them about oil (we had to put 2 quarts in June)and new noise, and shifting. Wheel bearings are replaced, noise continued and they replaced front axle, different noise continued and now they are replacing transmission. They said they were going to prep car for oil consumption test but do not have my car back from the shop to drive it to determine the cause. Called sales to get quote on extended warranty as mine is about to expire in about 8000 miles. I was “told it is not an inexpensive car to warranty and was quoted $5749. 00 for a 4 yr 60k warranty (it’s in an email I have) my worry is “what else is going to break or even possibly hurt or kill my daughter”. This was her graduation present to get her through college and on her feet with a job. She attended undergrad out of state and now attending her graduate school out of state. 97% of her miles 62-64k are highway miles. She has kept up with all service requirements for her vehicle and has never been in an accident (carfax). All her records are in her car and can upload once we get her car back. Now have a nauseating mildew smell throughout the interior. Finally found water under the front carpet. Then found this vw tech tip (above). Apparently a known manufacturing issue: "seam sealer skip" is how they refer to it. Now it's out of warranty with only 52,000 mi and is an unsafe mildew/mold trap. The dealer says it may be $3,000 to fix. Removed driver side front fender, the entire interior and sent the carpet and padding to be ozoned. See pic. Most seam sealer around hinges and a pillar are all painted the body color. This pic shows where it was "skipped" during the build. The dealer repaired the driver side last week without painting (why it's black). Then they strangely stated that they'd like to remove the passenger side fender as well to look for "more holes". They know what's going on. This is a well-known problem. Vw customer service said they won't offer any assistance since it's out of warranty. I did own it while under warranty, but never noticed since it was garaged. Do I have any recourse since it's an admitted manufacturing problem? thanks for your consideration.

2015 Volkswagen Jetta active grille shutter. A shutter system on the front end of the vehicle on the lower half of the radiator that allows air flow during different temperatures. The shutter assembly along with the electrical motor seems to go bad after a set amount of time. Giving off a check engine code p05a0 as the shutters freeze open. Volkswagen dealerships have quoted $700-900 to replace the assembly as the only fix with vehicles being out of warranty. A quick search online has determined that this is a known problem for all these vehicles, Volkswagen are aware as they released a newer engine for the assembly. Also the check engine code can not be cleared until the assembly is fixed or replaced, thus not allowing vehicles to pass annual registration or smog check here in California.

-the front right passenger electrical system that contains the wiring in order for the front headlight and front high beam to function properly suddenly started a short circuit and caused the front passenger light system wiring to catch fire to that part and the parts that surround it. The car is available for inspection at any time. -my safety was put at risk because my vehicle caught fire in a matter of seconds and spread so fast that it was impossible to stop the fire without requesting help of the miami gardens fire department that arrived on the scene as fast as they could a few minutes later. Other vehicles waiting at the traffic light were also put at risk because of the fire, smoke, and the hazardous wastes that could've possibly led to an explosion from the fire spreading over the whole right side of the engine. -the problem hasn't been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer; however, I do have a police report that states that the miami gardens fire department confirmed it was an electrical problem that started the fire and the severity of the damage that they believed was a total loss. The vehicle fire was able to be put out once the miami dade fire rescue got there and managed to stop the fire. The police officer inspected the vehicle once the fire was extinguished and was able to write the police report and gave me the police case #. -there was one warning light on on the driver dashboard that had appeared a week prior to the vehicle catching fire and it was that the front headlight bulb was not working and had to be replaced.

We were driving on highway 90 from del rio to san antonio texas when our sunroof exploded without any signs. No signs of impact or anything just exploded. Dealership declined any warranty coverage as they stated that something could have hit the sunroof weeks prior to the incident. There are no signs of impact on the sunroof and you can see the broken bits bending outward on the glass and not inward.

Door lock actuator for all passenger doors, the only one that hasn't failed is the driver's door.

I had hit snd run by this car. It looks like that driver had attention to hurt me moving in same line, I made him space behind me than he hit on back, I was tih king tha he/she was trying to escape he moved again in right line but he again started to move in left side where I was driving. I hit part of shoulder and there is a damege on my car from the back side and both left side how he/she hit me and right side how I hit on shoulder. Than he/she was trying to run as crazy trought crowd but my car got only body damages and I was able to run after him/her and wrote down license plate. I am a remitter agent, I was able to find only lien holder for this car but not yet the assigned owner. Hopfully I can get same help from you. Thanks.

The plastic caps on side mirrors (both driver and passenger) are incredibly unstable and are at risk of flying off of the vehicle. I was driving on the freeway during a windy day when the plastic cap from the driver's side mirror flew off. The mirror/cap had no previous damage and was not loose in any way, so there is no reason that it should have just flown off. The passenger side had previously been involved in a minor accident, and when I had the piece repaired, it was simply snapped on with no sealant, and continued to fall off after repair.

Car can be turned off even if the vehicle is not in park. The car was turned off while still in drive unbeknownst to the driver. This resulted in the car rolling into another vehicle in a parking lot. This could have caused a lot of damage to pedestrians and other vehicles. A accident did occur on Feb 12, 2021 in sprouts grocery store parking lot in la mesa, san diego CA. Insurance companies have been involved to repair the other parties vehicle involved. The damage to the mentioned car includes damage to the bumper, tail light and side body. The other vehicle involved needs the entire side panel replaced.

Bought car new March 2020. Back cover of driver side mirror came off in April 2020. January 15, 2021 while driving on interstate at 70 mph. The car began to jerk and sputter. Every attempt to accelerate would cause the car to jerk more. After exiting the interstate I was able to drive 25 mph to nearest dealership. I was told cylinder 1 was dead and others are misfiring. I have since been told that something broke off and was sucked into cylinder 1 damaging cylinder 1. I have been waiting for a new engine since January. I have been repeatedly told it is on back order with no eta. It is now 2/22/21.

Driver front door rattle, when driving at any speed. And nothing in door pocket.

Tl- the contact owns a 2019 volswagen Jetta. The contact stated that there's an exposed metal pipe above the accelerator pedal that caused the contact to burned his feet multiple times. The vehicle was taken to village Volkswagen of chattanooga, 6001 International dr, chattanooga, TN 37421, and informed the contact that's the way the vehicle was build. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was build that way and provided a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000. Aw.

Front end collision on highway at approximate 45 mph, possibly slower. Airbags did not deploy. Damage primarily on driver side of vehicle. Flame ignited on front driver side of vehicle under the hood. Fire quickly spread causing total loss of vehicle. Unkown what caused fire.

Interior trim piece below the infotainment center is defective. It bend outward leaving a 1 inch gap between trim piece and the dash. Taken to vw dealer and it is covered under warranty for defective piece.

The contact owns a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the battery and the fusible link were replaced and the failure ceased. Once the battery and fusible link were replaced, the doors became difficult to lock. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a local dealer or an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 142,000.

The vehicle had been stationary for about 6 hours then caught on fire from the engine throughout the whole vehicle. The fire department came and out the vehicle fire out but the whole from end of the vehicle to the inside and backseat was affect by the fire.

The passenger side indoor, door handle is a sticker and not an actual chrome handle. The sticker has peeled off the bottom, creating sharp edges. I have cut my fingers when opening the door twice now. The handles all should be replaced.

Left side door latch malfunction: unable to open door from left rear even when child protection is disabled. Could be a safety hazard when needing to exit vehicle. Faulty door latch issues are well known to occur. The latch on this vehicle has malfunctioned for the last 5 years. 05.

The door locks at 15 to 20 miles an hour lock and unlock themselves. . . The radio which according to the vw dealership has to be replace because if I replace with an after market they will not be able to run a diagnostic test on it. . . . They claim the radio has to be vw.

Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that the sunroof glass had cracked while driving at 60 mph without warning. The contact covered the sunroof with plastic to cover the defective parts. The contact also received a recall notice under 19v615000(electrical system, steering) and was informed that there was no remedy for the recall. The dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of either failure. The vehicle has yet been repaired for either matter. The failure mileage was unknown. Jo.

Door locks stopped working for my vw Jetta s 2. 5 l. When I press the car key to lock the door, it gives sound that everything is locked. One day to my horror, I saw someone opening my car at night. I immediately rang alarm, went to my car and checked every door to find that they are not getting locked. No manual locks for this vehicle too. This really questions the safety of the vehicle. I took it to vw service. They told that mechanical part of latch failed. They told that since mechanical and electrical parts come together both were replaced at a cost of 670 bucks. That's too much for a single door.

The window has a mind of its own. I went through the manual to troubleshoot it, worked fine for a day then right back to what it was before. Everything that has to do with the driverside door, expect to open from the inside just went haywire with no warning. The mirror defrost doesn't work and the outside door handle won't open any longer. When I turn it is now making a stage squealing noise. My car is only 4 years old. Should not have any of these issues.

I am truly not sure. It is going into the shop tomorrow. Although, I just purchased it used, and when I park it on a hill. It makes this odd sound as if the body is going to fall apart? I smell a burning metal smell as well. It was parked on a hill so it was stationary, just not sure what it is. I know it is used but I only had it for 1 month!.

My sunroof exploded with no impact for no reason.

The trunk did not latch when first closed. I then was able to get the trunk to latch after several attempts to close it. However, the trunk came open later on in my trip. This is not the first time that I have had trouble closing the trunk, but this is the first time that it has popped open while I was driving.

I was traveling at 40 mph through a city street intersection. My car was t-boned on the driver's side with such force that my car was spun around almost 180 degrees. 80% of the impact was on the driver's rear door, 20% on the driver's door. The side airbags did not deploy, this included a car equipped with side/curtain airbags. I had issues previously with the windows properly working and had all components minus the electrical system replaced on the driver's door and a passenger door. There were a few other oddities at times with the electric system of the Jetta. Considering the force of the impact I suspect an electrical glitch with the sensors or some other problem that prevented the airbags from deploying. The damage was extensive enough that the car was totaled.
