The latch on the driver side has become loose. As I was driving over speed bumps, I noticed the door would rattle hard. I pulled to the side and noticed the latch attached to the car was loose. I tightened up the screws and the door was able to close tightly again. A few weeks later, the problem has occurred again. I tighten the screws, but this time, the door cannot close fully. This is worrisome, because what if the door swings open as I am driving? this is a major safety concern!.

The driver's side window in my vehicle stopped working completely. When I took the vehicle to the dealer they told me the cause was a faulty driver's side door harness. There were several wires that were broken or about to break, and they suggested I replace it immediately. I was quoted over $400 for parts and labor. This issue was recalled on the earlier models, and then fixed on the 2008 and later models during production. However the 2006 and 2007 models are still affected by the problem. Volkswagen has not issued a recall for this crucial part and continues to let its customers pay for the dangerous design flaw in these vehicles. Warning to potential buyers: before purchasing a 2005. 5 (newer body style), 2006, or 2007 Jetta check to make sure this problem has been fixed. Otherwise, you could wind up with your power windows, locks, mirrors, gas door, and trunk release no longer working when you need them to. Also, I was told the vehicle would not pass inspection with this problem. It is a risk and a safety concern that should be recalled immediately.
Drivers side door wiring harness has design flaw as reflected in numerous complaints documented on-line. Representative examples may be found at following link. . Read more...
Driver's side wiring harness failure - several wires in the wiring harness between the passenger compartment and driver door have failed, making it impossible to operate windows, door locks, release fuel door, and release trunk from driver door. There is no manual release for the fuel door. The failed wiring also results in a constant door ajar indication on the instrument panel and illumination of the front dome and entry lamps. Safety systems may be compromised if the onboard computer believes the door is ajar.
The contact owns a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that the driver's door where the hinges were located exhibits defective engineering within the wiring harness. Several of the wires were broken between the body of the vehicle and the door. The driver side window did not operate and the power door locks did not function due to the broken wires. He took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the wiring harness needed to be replaced and they could not assist with repair expenses since the warranty was no longer valid. The contact was certain that replacing the wiring harness would not remedy the failure since the wiring harness was being damaged by the opening and closing of the door. He wrote the manufacturer but received no assistance there as well. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The current mileage was approximately 52,500. The failure mileage was approximately 51,000.
Purchased a new '09 vw Jetta sdn 2. 5 l s and the second day I had it, I had to take to service dept. The door seal from drivers door was coming off, the car would smell like burning plastic and I noticed after 3rd trip ( in 2 days ) the rear brakes were "glowing" red hot. They said they could figure it out and said it may be a plastic coating they put on brake pads to keep rust from building up on the ship overseas! after the brakes constantly squeaking and having to take my new car in 2 more time with every excuse known to man , I was mistakenly told it was a defect and they changed them at no charge. My brakes are again going out and it has only been about 6-9 months. The concern is that they have not fixed the root of the problem as well as a seat belt indicator which has been faulty. I have had them make me take it in 3 times for that ( first time they couldn't duplicate the problem, so I was told to bring it in again ) and one passenger side was replaced but it is still happening and I fear that the combined brake and seat belt/ airbag issues could be dangerous! also troubling is in the last few months the drivers side rear door would not unlock by any means for on 3 occasions (the last which I called vw service to make an appointment for and never got a return phone call) the last time it was unusable door for 2 weeks then just started working again. It has not been attended to, but my fear is again, in a accident if someone was back there they may get trapped in car.

My 2002 vw Jetta 4 door has this substance which they used to block heat and deaden the noise from outside, however when it gets hot it runs out of the holes in the undercarriage and has an awful smell something like that of melted crayons, and the odor attaches to the occupants in a matter of minutes.

I own a 2004 vw Jetta GLS. My mom opened the door to the front passenger side, and the corner of the door hit her in the cheekbone, just below her eye. It bruised & swelled immediately, and has stayed that way for almost a week now. She went to the doctor to get her eye checked just in case, and he found a paint chip in her eye! vw should either round the edges of the door, or put rubber strips on it, like Lexus and Honda do. I have also hit myself with the door twice, but did not get bruises. Maybe we are uncoordinated or accident prone, but we are also 5ft 1 in, which may have something to do with the location of the injury. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta. When the contact opened the vehicle door, the passenger compartment smelled like melted crayons. The contact believed that the smell originated from the carpeting and the soundproofing material in the door and throughout the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the technician was unable to determine the cause of the odor. No repairs were made at that time. The vehicle was taken to another dealer and they kept the vehicle for a week and washed the coils; however, they too could not locate the source of the smell. The current mileage was 68,800 and failure mileage was 65,000.
The contact owns a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated the bondo is ripping of the back panelof the right passenger door. There is also a crack between the bondo and the door. If the vehicle was involved in a crash near the door, the passenger sitting in the right back passenger seat a serious injury could occur. The current and failure mileage were 64,500.
The driver's side door came loose while driving and even though it was seemingly shut properly when at a stop. Aside from the loud road noise, the "door's ajar" ding would startle me, particularly when at high speed on the (relatively smooth) highways. I have to slam the door several times in order to get the dinging to stop. Whenever the door rattled loose on the highway (which was unpredictable), I was worried that it was going to fly open. I had to pull over to attempt to close it. I paid $550 to have the door lock replaced (it was the hardware, not the electronic locks, which functioned normally throughout the ordeal). Now, only 2 years later, I'm having the same problem, and the dealer says that neither their repairs nor the replacement parts are under warranty.
My 2003 vw Jetta tdi GLS sedan was parked on a summer day (approx. 100 degrees f). Upon returning to the vehicle, I noticed a waxy, greasy, yellow substance leaking from below the doors on both sides of the vehicle. Upon further examination, I discovered that the substance was leaking from between the inside surface of the door and the rubber weather stripping. Contacted my vw service dealer (dana motors, billings, mt), and they informed me that this was a common problem with vws during hot months, that the substance was an undercoating protectant that was sprayed on at the factory. They also told me that it was not necessary to have this protectant replaced. The stuff has continued leaking out on very hot days, usually only 95+ degrees. It is hard to remove but doesn't seem to have done any damage to the paint. I want to know if it's true that this stuff doesn't need to be replaced. What if it's a necessary lubrication and by leaking out will harm a part of the door assembly?.

When my volkswagon Jetta was broadsided at a signal light junction, none of the airbags front or side were activated. Also the rear side door flew off from the car and a result of which both my children were ejected and injured. The car is completely totalled.
I have a 2002 1. 8t Volkswagen Jetta - I have experienced numerous failures. 1)radio has failed twice - in each instance fault was traced to a fuse - following radio failure I experienced repeated dead batteries until the radio was repaired. 2) abs failure detected when I was getting my radio fixed the second time 3)vehicle has failed to start on two occasions - I wait a minute and try again - it worked 4)my window fell into the door 5)I experienced an activation of numerous engine fault lights that reset following engine restart 6)the coating on interior door handle surfaces peels off easily 7)the chrome ring around the shift know is peeling.
While driving rear passenger's side door flew open without warning. Dealer notified.

Consumer concerned with engine and wheel bearing issues. Wants to know who is going to reimburse for repairs. Oxygen sensor had to be replaced several times. The driver side inner door handle was difficult to operate. The left side axle shaft was replaced because it was making a whining noise. While driving the vehicle stalled. It was later determined that a small rodent had built a nest which clogged the air box. The vehicle stalled again and this time they replace the maf sensor. The cruise control was inoperative.

The coils on my 2002 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 1. 8t are burning out. Volkswagen of America has informed me that rather than replace all 4 coils, I must wait until each coil burns out before they will replace it. I have a letter from them as well stating they are aware of the problem but can not do anything more about it due to a lack of coils in stock. I guess the letter is a way to shut the customers up. Apparently this is happening to over 500,000 people last I heard. I want this complaint logged and a personal note added and directed to Volkswagen of America (if possible), "I will not renew my lease on this lemon and I will never purchase another Volkswagen again. " the coil issue is just one of the issues I'm having with this vehicle. The date below is the last time I went in for coil replacement and got to work late.
Vehicle description - 2003 Volkswagen Jetta gli. Vr6 with 6 speed manual transmission. VIN 3 v w v h 6 9 m 1 3 m 0 5 4 8 0 3. Date of purchase - 17-oct-2002. Mileage at time of NHTSA complaint - 1550. Problem: door "rattle" under any driving condition. The "rattling" was first thought to be the paneling. Teflon tape was placed between the metal part and the plastic paneling. This procedure stopped the paneling from making any noise. But the problem continued. The noise "rattling" is coming from the upper frame of the door. Meaning the door is not closing or meeting the roof/pillar section of the roof. Water passed through the door. The other day we had rain for several days, and water was coming in while the car was driven. The dealership has tried several approaches including the one mentioned above. Also, vw tech support has been contated and suggested to replace the door strikers. Door strikers (all 4) have been replaced and no improvement. Dealership is waiting for "vw engineering department to get back from the holidays" to see what steps to be taken. I feel this is a safety issue as the door are not closing properly. In case of an accident will the door hold in place? what happens if I install a roof rack and place a load in the roof? is the roof going to give in since it is missing the additional support from the doors? my main concern is in case of an accident are the door going to hold in place or are they going to fly of since the vibration "opening and closing" the doors? ts.
With key in ignition consumer stepped out of car and door automatically locked.

I purchased the 2002 1. 8t Volkswagen Jetta on 1/09/02. My service record begins on 1/23/02. From day one, I have pointed out that this car leaks/has wind noise from doors/windows. Seals were replaced on drivers side doors on 6/27/02. Leakage/moisture to date, is an issue. Now there is visible water damage and mold growing along drivers side. Issue- poor quality product. Dangerous mold growing-health factor! ignition coil failure twice! radio has blown twice- faulty wiring! car lunges when started or hard to stop once running. My situation is not "special". There are many others that have purchased this product and have their safety compromised. Ignition coil is a suppose to be a recall, but only when they fail. Volkswagen of America will not replace until you are stranded! this is a severe safety issue. Mold growing in my car is a severe safety issue.
Date of first known problem provided. Have already been through bbb autoline regarding most of the defects listed and thought manufacturer had fixed them. Now vehicle has the same problems plus more. All work being done at dealership is at manufacturer's expense, however, this car is a major inconvenience due to unreliability. Electrical problems aren't solved with replaced wiring harnesses, unsafe door hinges and window regulators make for hazardous driving conditions, airbag sensor problems, and quick to wear out rear brakes are all very dangerous defects for a new car owner to suffer with. Dt.
Door molding has fallen off.

Vehicle was in house garage and did not start. Consumer contacted aaa person who tried to jump with battery. Then, smoke was coming from seat belt hole where disconnected battery cable was located. Insurance stated that fire was due to a broken wire from post into door where hot wire grounded and started fire.
Doors leak an oil substance, took to dealer, and they said car was designed for germany's cold weather, and it will stop in about a year.
