39 Equipment problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/29/2024

Without any warning whatsoever the entire electrical system goes completely off while driving the vehicle after 5 mins of it being on. This means that the lights including blinker and brake lights go off, air conditioning stops, and the entire dashboard goes off. The engine is still able to run. I am able to use the gas and breaks but I do not know what my speed is or any other information that is typically available via the dashboard. I have tried to do a reset when the problem occurs but that does not help the situation. The safety of myself and others is definitely at risk when this happens since the break lights and turning signal will no longer function at all. I can only use the hazard lights to indicate the hazard this presents. I’ve brought this issue up to multiple Volkswagen dealerships having paid the $200 diagnostics fee every time and they inform me that they are not recognizing the issue. I ask if this has anything to do with a recall that had happened to this car and been “fixed” in 2021 and they do not answer the question. I ask if it is possible that the recall was not fixed correctly and that is why I am having issues and they do not answer the question. I have also emailed customer support at Volkswagen worldwide and they state that my car never had any recalls done which is so incredibly false. I have the paperwork to confirm that it had a total of 6 different recalls done in 2021. I believe one of the recalls was never fixed properly and has only deteriorated worse since 2021.

40 Equipment problem of the 2024 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/26/2024

The small detached windshield above large windshield is defective and temperature sensitive. The vehicle was parked outside all day in hot arizona ( extreme hot temps) and when we entered we put the ac on full blast. Within minutes with the car still in park. The glass exploded and shattered. Big pop sound almost like a gun shot. We looked outside and the upper windshield was cracked. I informed the dealership and manger said same thing happened to him while driving his Jetta. He thinks it was a rock. I disagree I think its defective and needs immediate action before injury occurs.

41 Equipment problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/20/2024

I am filing a complaint against Volkswagen group of America, I called they for assistants in fixing an issue with one of their dealers to replace an ignition switch. Volkswagen said they stand by their dealer and would not let me speak to the zone reps for that area or the dealer reps that assist the customer in coming to a solution. The ignition switch is a safety item and the dealer is trying to charge me a high price for a new key because they own a monopoly in the area.

42 Equipment problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/17/2024

Ignition switch stuck, and would not allow key to fully be inserted causing the cylinder to freeze and not turn on or if able to turn on not be able to turn off. I took it to the dealer to repair. They quoted me but refuse to provide a key with the new ignition system and are trying to price gouge me into buying a key that should have been provided with the new system.

43 Equipment problem of the 2020 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/11/2024

Mid-drive, the vehicle gave me a "check starter system" warning, a known 2020 vw Jetta issue. However, my car has not gotten a recall message yet. The message also disappeared again after I turned off the car for 10 minutes and started it again.

44 Equipment problem of the 2020 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/29/2024

Vehicle's sunroof spontaneously shattered while driving, raining down thousands of shards of glass. There was a loud bang, it sounded like a firecracker went off. I was not behind another vehicle and was going 55-60 mph. Another issue that this brought up was that after I had pulled off and assessed what happened, I wasn't initially able to buckle my seat belt due to glass in the receptacle.

45 Equipment problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/25/2024

My son was driving home when failure lights came on. I told him to take it to the nearest vw dealer, which he did: tynan’s vw in aurora, CO. The diagnostics’ indicated faults were cracks in the accumulator and transmission stuck in 6th gear, the exact same problem as indicated in the safety recall, issued in January of 2020 (NHTSA 19v866): hairline cracks in the accumulator housing of the transmission, clutch may not engage – loss of power to wheels leading to vehicle crash. Repair not available. In June of 2021, when a repair was available, I took the car to chapman Volkswagen scottsdale, az to perform the repair and service. The mileage at first repair on July 2, 2021 was 30828. This is the second occurance of the same issue. On may 1st after receiving the tynans’ diagnostic report I started attempting to contact chapman Volkswagen scottsdale, az. Also at notification from tynans’ vw of the second occurrence of this safety issue, I called vw customer care on early may - vw customer care contact on 5/1/24 - case number: 06229720. Outcome: I was told by vw customer care to go back to chapman Volkswagen scottsdale and tell them they did not repair it properly. Volkswagen scottsdale is taking no responsibility (current service manager is mike chadwell) after several calls and I have not been able to get a copy of their repair warranty after repeated requests.

46 Equipment problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/16/2024

The car is making a weird sound when I break. It sounds like liquid is moving around and another sound. The central caution off in my car and the airbags too.

47 Equipment problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/14/2024

Vehicle shuts down while driving. All electrical turns off, dashboard goes dark code reads starter system faulty, ignition switched off, please service vehicle.

48 Equipment problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/13/2024

When driving the car, it will randomly stall, lose power or not accelerate. Sometimes the epc light and oil light will illuminate other times it gives no warning. It shut off on the interstate while going 72mph. I have taken it to the dealership since a month after I got it and they keep telling me nothing is wrong with it. I have to get oil changes every month despite not driving it much and the gas consumption is 3tines what it should be. I’m having to fill the tank up three times a week despite going to and from work which is 9 miles from my home. I have taken it to the dealership and had to pay $1000s of dollars only for it to start having the same issues within a week.

49 Equipment problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/03/2024

The tunk lid fills with water and gets all the tail light components and wiring wet when it rains heavy or get a car wash.

50 Equipment problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 03/11/2024

Vehicle on several occasions lost power while driving causing me to coast to the side of the road. After stopping and placing car in park, tried to restart vehicle and started up with no lights on dashboard as to this issue. Took car to vw dealer and was told they would complete the recall work to fix the powertrain issues of gearbox fluid leaking causing corrosion and leaks into transmission. Received call from dealership who stated transmission was totally damaged and replacement was $11,000. 00. I went to the dealership to discuss and was told they had no specific information as to the codes received when they ran the diagnostic. They also stated they did not fix the recall and had no reason for not fixing recall other than the cost to replace the transmission was not worth it based on value of car. I strongly believe that the recall issue is the reason for any damage to the transmission as they are directly related. I have researched on-line and there are a lot of individuals with the same issue and the same responses from vw not wanting to acknowledge the recall issue and the direct relation to any transmission issues. I have driven this car and there has been issues with the automatic transmission shifting gears. I believe the cost (parts and labor) to repair the actual recall issue is the driving decision to tell customers that the transmission is bad. One post actual had a customer trade in his Jetta at the vw dealer for a vw passat and was only given $150. 00 trade-in allowance. Later the individual searched their car by VIN and found the car was for sale. Vw should be required to completely fix the recall and related transmission issues and/or purchase back these vehicles at a negotiated price. I am the original owner of this car and it only has 127,000 miles. This is only about 10,000 miles per year. Please look into similar reports of these issues by others. Vw also stopped production of this car knowing the defects that would occur or were occurring.

51 Equipment problem of the 2020 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 03/07/2024

After buying this vehicle in June 2020, and the "emergency sos module" never malfunctioning once, I enrolled in vw's free "safe and secure" service through the myvw mobile application on March 7, 2024, and immediately received an "emergency sos error" light. The vehicle manual states that the vehicle is not safe to drive and must be taken to the dealership immediately. I then called my local vw dealership asking if I could stop by since I was in the area, and the service department stated that have seen a lot of vehicles coming in with this issue lately and the car must be brought in to replace the emergency call module. Upon bringing my vehicle in, the dealership stated that there is a diagnostic charge of over $250, in addition to the cost of potentially replacing the module (which I'm reading online others have paid between $900-$1,500 for replacement. This is completely unacceptable to pass on a charge to a customer for something that is not included in the vehicle's scheduled (or unscheduled) maintenance list, as well as has nothing to do with the mechanical operation of the vehicle – in addition to posing a safety risk. I never had an issue with this module until the minute I decided to enroll in vw's free "safe and secure" service, at which point it seems either they have installed faulty equipment in their vehicles or have an error in their software.

55 Equipment problem of the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/04/2024

When driving roughly 75mph on the interstate the passenger door opened on its own. No warning was shown for 10 minutes or 8 miles. When taken to get serviced I was told it was due to freezing from the cold weather and the latch couldn’t latch. This not only confused me because I’ve never had that issue with any vehicle but the vehicle also did not show a warning of it earlier. This was extremely scary due to the fact I had a passenger in the vehicle at the time who could have been injured or someone else could have.

Failure Date: 12/15/2023

The car has been jerking when you’re driving and sometimes it jerks forward as you’re parking it while it’s in the parked position. Then I’m driving home from work , it’s raining heavy. I get to the valaro store by my house; I put $40. 00 worth of gas in the car after work drove home parked the car the next morning it would not turn over , would not ignite at all I took it to the shop. They said the computer was fried from the rain leaking through the windshield or under the windshield. They said it’s a major problem with this model car. The mechanic said the computer could not be fixed. He sent it to the Volkswagen repair shop it can’t be fixed and to replace it cost thousands of dollars !!! I can provide an estimate of the problems and possible repairs if needed . The mechanic stated it is not worth the cost to fix the car. I did notice that there is a powertrain recall and my mechanic is also stating that the transmission is the jerking problem we’re having. . I really think these should be recalled however I needed to submit my issues and see what you final decision would be on both situations, the powertrain transmission problem and the computer burnout problem thank you so much and hope you’re having a great day.

Car keeps turning off while driving and battery light comes on the dash board. Restarts and light no longer comes on until it turns off again. Drives for awhile again and same thing happens. Have changed numerous parts but without anything showing, can't diagnose it. Unpredictable to when it will turn off.

61 Equipment problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/18/2023

Even after having the fuel system replaced due to recall, I’m still smelling gas inside of my car. My epc light and check engine light keep coming on and don’t always stay on but when it comes on, while driving… my car will tell me to downshift and then there is no throttle, you can mash the gas pedal to the floor and only dash lights. It has also skipped the downshift indicator and just cut completely off while driving.

62 Equipment problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/11/2023

Unknown, there has been no remedy for this recall for more than a month.

63 Equipment problem of the 2020 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/18/2023

The sunroof shattered after closing the car door from the pressure or motion of the car door closing. The sunroof glass panel popped up in the center and all the shattered glass was in an upward motion indicating the cause was from the pressure in the cabin. There were no visible chips or debris on the sunroof prior to this occurring. I took the vehicle to the Volkswagen dealership for an inspection and repair but they denied warranty coverage even though the vehicle is under the original warranty. Volkswagen claims that a chip or rock would cause the sunroof to shatter from the door closing. This is not a safe or acceptable design - sunroofs should not shatter when car doors are opened/closed or from the movement of the vehicle driving.

64 Equipment problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/15/2023

On hot days, has happened multiple times. At parking lot, car did not turn on first two attempts, finally when on, then electrical shuts off. Starter system faulty message service vehicle. Stuck key in and out, several attempts: got car to turn on. Moved it to shade as electrical shut off. Once cooled turn back on. Other instance, while driving on highway the dasboard, gauges, electronics info system shut off. Ac and engine remained on. No turn signals availability. Happened during day time; I assume brake lights not working either. Pulled over, called dealer, said it's safety feature temp sensor when its hot outside car will shut off. Issue for months now. Prior to this p position message yellow triangle exclamation point. Shifter moved bach and forth along with turning key ignition several time ( cooler weather period). May or may not be related. Service engine soon pops up. The car always has oil changes, antifreeze, and filters up to date. Car has new battery. Alternator is working properly. No indication its the starter. Still having issue. I had car towed to vw dealership as I read about recall. Misunderstanding, they will not work on it as recall is not active. Key ignition switch: no solution status. I had car towed because the associate at vw stated it would be worked on and recall set for October 2023 to be honored. The solution is not to have car remain in shade, or wait for recall to be active. Vw must be awareof issue: temp senor, ignition key switch/system and possible shifter. Not safe to at all. Cars can hit you during this event with no brakes, sometimes shuuting off or be left stranded.

65 Equipment problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/01/2023

Car engine stalling while driving and failure of the eps/epc light comes on when attempted to start the car warning start stop system malfunctioning unable to start at times.

66 Equipment problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/25/2023

The recall was in August 2023. I was told the part was not in yet. I recently tried again. Still no part in and it’s going on November 2023. I have gotten the run around, my calls go unanswered, no one available to talk to. No one knows what’s going on with this recall from the dealer service supervisor to vw recall to vw customer service.

67 Equipment problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/16/2023

When I pulled out into traffic and pushed on gas the car would not go it sounded as if the engine just shut off the car literally had lost all power to it I pulled over to the side and the epc light was on as well as the check engine light. I had my baby with me that just had surgery day before and I was terrified because I had no idea what was happening. I gave it a few minutes and started the car of which at first sounded as if it wasn't going to start. I was only a couple minutes from my house and had no resources to help and couldnt walk with my son. Got the car back to the house but it again did the same thing and continued to do the same with sounding like it did not want to start. I had talked with a mechanic that said to get it into a vw dealer ASAP as this is very dangerous and should not be happening with this new of a car with such low miles. Finding this site it looks as if there has been a few issues that sound similiar and recalls. I just need a car that I can drive.

68 Equipment problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/09/2023

While driving, ignition shuts off. Vehicle relays “ignition off” message. Has only happened on 85+ degree days while car is in the sun. No mechanic has been able to diagnose and fix the issue.

69 Equipment problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/04/2023

This vehicle and other vehicles of the same model have a faulty ignition cylinder lock housing causing the key to be unable to turn the car to off and be removed from the ignition. This does not allow the driver to park and leave the car as the key remains stuck and unable to turn. This problem has been reported by a dealer as an issue that is fixed weekly on other vehicles of the same make and model in shop. The vehicle has been inspected by the Volkswagen dealership and determined to be a failure within the vehicle. The key in the ignition has occasionally become stuck but, now remains in the vehicle for consistently after each drive for up to 30 minutes of trying to remove it.

70 Equipment problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/29/2023

The key will either get stuck in the ignition while the car is on, or it will occasionally not turn at all. Both of which have left me or others borrowing my car stranded. Has taken up to 2 hours of jiggling the key and finally turning to the on or off position. Some shops are saying the ignition cylinder, others the switch, and others the steering lock but this seems to be a very common complaint online from Volkswagens in this age range. It could seriously harm someone if they were unable to start their car in an emergency situation due to the key not turning.
