The car loses power, stalls then it dies. At times it speeds up, and stalls dies without warning. Loses all power, found recall in reference to this issue. VIN# matches series, matches date, and place where the car was made, except for the last few digits. Recall 11v19600, and vw will not replace harness to electrcial fuse and circuit breaker. I need to help to get this resolved. I have been battling the dealer and vw of America since 03/20/2015 until today 06/26/2015.

The epc light came on while I was driving my vehicle. I turned off my car when I arrived at my destination. I read the manual, and it was not helpful. It just stated that I should take the car to a dealer or qualified specialist as soon as possible (note: this is what the booklet says for the majority of items in the owners' manual). Upon returning to my vehicle, I started my car once more. My engine turned over, but the car was unable to shift from park into any other gear. The vehicle had to be towed to an auto shop. Upon further inspection, the auto shop informed me that my car had a "feature" that disabled the car from shifting gears due to a tail-light fuse that blew out. It is believed that disabling the vehicle serves the purpose of maintaining safety on the streets- a vehicle in motion without taillights is apparently more dangerous than a driver stranded on the road because their car has stranded them. Luckily, I was fortunate enough not to be in a bad situation. So finally, the car was fixed, of course after I paid yet another hefty bill for my car.

My situation is very similar to odi id number : 10136903. I have a 2003 Jetta. I was driving about 65 mph, my abs warning light turned on, air bag warning light turned on, and my radio turned off. After stopping my car, it wouldn't start again. I had it towed to mechanic, who determined that my fuse panel (above the battery) had melted and he was very surprised that my car hadn't caught on fire. He replaced the fuse panel. A few days later, my car failed to start again. A jump start started it. Next day, my car failed to start again. A jump start started it. I drove it straight to mechanic. My alternator, which was fine last week, is now fried (after two drives), most likely because the fuse panel burnt it out. The alternator in my 2003 Jetta is a 90 amp alternator. Vw stopped making these because they aren't powerful enough for the cars. I repeat, 90 amp alternators are no longer made for my car because it requires 120 amp alternator. Hmm.
Bought used vw from a dealer. Dealer was doing brakes/inspection, and on picking up the vehicle stunk of burnt electric smell. Vehicle would not start. This was around 50,000 miles. Check engine light remains on although numerous codes continue to come up nothing is found. Dealer sent car to authorized vw dealer to fix - light still remains on. Around 87,000 miles car began to drain battery and would not start even after new battery. Took to authorized vw car shop. Seems something with fuses/electrical system. Again many codes but nothing seems wrong, accept for the whole not starting. Ignition switch was replaced - light still on. Lighter socket no longer works. Now around 89,000 miles and it is now early 2008.

Fire in the fuse box, resulted in cabin damages.
Problem with engine control module which caused electrical failure throughout vehicle, in particular, disabled all door locking systems, trunk and gas door buttons, overhead lights and heating/cooling pannel lights. This caused serious issue as owner was unable to manually open gas door to fill vehicle due to button on the door being diabled and was unable to set vehicle alarm system due to locking system being disabled. Issue was traced to comfort covenience module, and traced to main wiring harness that was causing a short and blown fuses. To merely find and diagnose the problem took dealer over 11 hours to replace $2. 88 worth of parts---an extremely excessive amount of time. Volkswagon USA stands by dealer and refused assistance even though customer service reps acknowledged that repair time seemed extremely excessive in nature. Have seen similar complaints regarding vw electrical system issues and will be filing complaints with oag's in MA and nh.
The ac/heat temperature control panel no longer illuminates.

When driving at night headlight system would dim poorly when operating other electrical switches such as power windows, wipers etc. Dealer was notified, and stated that was normal. Feel free to provide any further information.
My car is nightmare of failures. Cruise control light (dealer claims the car doesnt have one - but you can see it if you use a flashlight at an oblique angle) failure, abs module switch failure (according to dealer) causing cruise control to unexpectedly disengage. I also learned from other motorists that the same switch controls brake light illumination (all bulbs and other signal lights work). Fuel injection module over injected gas causing excessive pressure. Relief valve failed to open causing turbo overpressure to +120psi. Failure caused hoses to blow sending hose clamps as projectiles. This week, the front passenger side window unexpectedly dropped into the door. Dealer has literally taped the window up until a part arrives. Dealer admits to mfg design defect - no voluntary recall. No dealers will voluntarily replace clips until they fail. Volkswagen position is that they know there is a design flaw, but wont replace known bad clips until there is a failure. Window failure could cause objects (stones kicked up by tires of other cars) to hit passengers. Infant / child safety risk. Window integrity questionable in an accident if it fails when driving 15mph. Help!.
Brake lights have gone out, and will not work when consumer is driving. Contacted dealer, and dealer is not willing to do the work.
Date of first known problem provided. Have already been through bbb autoline regarding most of the defects listed and thought manufacturer had fixed them. Now vehicle has the same problems plus more. All work being done at dealership is at manufacturer's expense, however, this car is a major inconvenience due to unreliability. Electrical problems aren't solved with replaced wiring harnesses, unsafe door hinges and window regulators make for hazardous driving conditions, airbag sensor problems, and quick to wear out rear brakes are all very dangerous defects for a new car owner to suffer with. Vehicle was parked for over four hours when it suddenly caught on fire. Fire department was called, which determined that brake lights housed within tail light assembly shorted out, melting wire and caught on fire. Consumer has contacted manufacturer, which sent out a factory representative. Please provide any further details.

The brake lights spontaneously ignited while the car was parked in an apartment parking lot.
I am not satisfied with my 2001 Jetta. One week after I purchased the car in Aug 2001 the passenger and driver side seats started to move everytime I stepped on the brake. I took it to the dealership and they said nothing was wrong. A few months later I noticed that floor padding on the back seat area (both sides) started bulging. The dealership indicated that is normal for all 2001 Jettas. I have several friends who drives vw and they never had the same problem with their floor paddings. A few months later, the window on the driver side broke. All in all my driver side and passenger side windows have malfunctioned 5 times. In addition to all these problems, the temp gauge also malfunctioned. The temperature gauge would move from extremenme heat temp tocold tem and vice versa. What upset me is that there are two current recalls for 2001 Jettas and I havent heard from vw. I wasn't even informed about the window regulator problem.
Dealers openly acknowlege problems with their map sensors on gas and diesel engines, but Volkswagen of America internally refuses to recall this item. The same complaints are made about the very common relay 109 fuse failures, which Volkswagenw is likewise putting off. Please force them to recall these two items that have cost me plenty of out of pocket money, even though my car is under warranty. This is a rip-off of all consumers by vw of America and they need to be held accountable for their ignorance of these obvious problems!.
While driving over a bump and key moved all head lights turned off because of electrical wires shorting out through ignition system. Manufacturer had been contacted, and they said just to move key and head lights will come back on.
Fuse cover fell off, coverning the brakes, consumer lost control, resulting in a collision. Dealer has been notified.

Vehicle has been in and out of the shop due to the fact that the consumer had alot of problems with the power windows/power door locks and the signals. The dealer repaired all of the defects, but the consumer took the vehicle in for the windows to be repaired again, and they wanted the consumer to cover the fee.

Security remote,door locks, and panic button failed.
I am dubious about the safety of a well maintained car when the transmission fails in the first 6 months. The manufacturer's serviceman jumps the battery against owners manual recommendations and blows the internal fuse for the radio and sets off the airbag sensor (neither repaired by the dealer at no charge. Also,) tires needing replacement at less than 20,000 miles - lock cylinder fallling out of driver's side door- and all the power locks failing, resulting in having to go to the dealer just to get out of the car.
The headlight wiring harness burns out while vehicle is being driven. Dealer has replaced one headlight socket, and other headlight is currently non-functional.
