While traveling on the highway and without prior warning vehicle will shutdown.
Jetta 1. 8 t 2001 has been in the shop now at least six times to be fixed. Even though coils were replaced, the car continues to shutter and stall at least three days a week. The dealer asked for one more chance to fix the vehicle -- they failed and now are saying I must bring the car in to "prove" the problem. The problem occurs about 70% of the time though so may not display such a problem when and if I do bring it in again. Vw should be professional and deal with this huge national problem better -- they expect consumers to believe that they would spend weeks and loaner cars to fix a problem they never have really experienced. Your consumer is not stupid vw! thousands of owners will not back down or ho away. I intend to file a lemon law complaint.

2001 vw Jetta vr6 - car started shaking a lot upon start up and lost all power when I tried to pull away from an intersection. Was told it was a coil pack that needed to be replaced and that it wasn't covered under the recent vw service bulletin because my coil pack was from a supplier that was experiencing less problems than the ones they are replacing (despite the fact that the part had been on back order for 2 weeks). Their press releases and website say that they are notifying all 2001 and 2002 Jetta owners which is not true. My car is a 2001 Jetta and I was told that my failure was bad luck and that my car and others like mine would not have the part replaced by vw even though they are replacing the same part from a different supplier in the same year and style vehicle as mine. I believe they should expand their recall/service bulletin to cover a wider range of Jettas as it appears to me to be a part problem not a supplier problem. I've also heard (via internet message boards and the service department that I went to) that this a common problem in 2000, 2001, and 2002. This could be very dangerous if it happened when I was pulling onto the merritt parkway or a busy intersection instead of out of my street. The car just bounces forward a little bit, shakes violently, loses almost all power, and dies.
While driving and with no warning vehicle will stall. It will be hard for consumer to control the vehicle.
I have a 1999 Volkswagen Jetta. On March 24, 2003 Monday morning I was driving with in the city in san ramon, CA and suddenly with a noise my car stopped. My engine won't start at all after that and in the end I had to call aaa to tow my car. Aaa towed my car to the nearest auto center, where after the complete inspection "bob auto tech" told me that the crank shaft of my car was broken. I was shocked and surprised to hear that, and I could not believe that. My car is only 4 years old, and has always been taken care of by me by regular servicing and oil change and always at vw authorized dealerships/workshops. I ended up paying up bills worth $3194. 82 from my pocket as it was not covered by the insurance also. I would kindly request you to look into the matter and help me with my distress and financial pain.

The coil had started going faulty about 1 year prior. Due to moisture in the coil, the car was barely running -- it back fired, and was nearly impossible to get it rolling up a hill, almost causing me to roll into a car behind me at a stop sign. I was able to get it replaced under the extended warranty, but it should have been covered by the recall on all the other coils -- there are numerous reports of 2000 models with the vr6 engine having the same coil failure.

Car has several electrical problems. Have already spent about $1000 on various ignition related repairs at the dealership. Part of the dashboard lights do not work, trunk can not be opened from the inside.
The defect is a faulty engine coil pack. Dealer change the faulty coil pack. Please provide further information. Ph.

Coil pack failure, 2coil packs have malfunctioned on my 02 Jetta 1. 8t. Dealer says 4-6 weeks for parts. Recall??????????????????????????????.
Vw Jetta egnition coils - one failed, dealership will not replace them all even though another will likely malfunction. Why is this not a recall, the situation can be dangerous. Does there have to be a fatality for a recall?.
Ignition-coil problem.
Vw Jetta 1. 8t abrupt engine failure stopping car dead in heavy freeway traffic. Was told it was known ignition defect fixed one of four defective "coils". Vwoa would not replace other three and said thay would probably fail also but it is not their problem until it fails. Extremely dangerous! this seems to be widespread throughout Audi andvw.
Loss of power. . . . Rough idle. . . . Check engine light on. . . . . Coil pack failure.
Just had my coil pack fail on me and will be taking it to the dealer to get replaced.
While traveling on the highway without prior warning the vehicle started shaking and vibrating and shut off. Please fill in additional information dealer is aware of the problem. Ts.
The coils in the 2002 vw Jetta 1. 8t engine are failing. When they fail, this creates a saftey issuse with the car stalling. This happens unexpectly without warning, and could happen while traveling in a high speed lane. Over a half million cars are affected by this poorly designed part. An indepth report appeared in the boston Sunday globe automotive section (1-26-03) describing the problem we have been experiencing. Vw choses only to fix failed components, not the ones that have not failed. There are four coils on this engine, and the consumer has four chances of being in a accident when the part fails. Vw should replace all four parts of this known problem, and not wait for the accidents to happen.
My coil packs seem to be failing, but cannot be reproduced by the dealer. My 2003 Jetta 1. 8t runs very rough in the morning and then runs fine. I am scared that the coil packs will fail in a critical driving situation.

Coil failed on 2001 vw Jetta 1. 8 t, at 18400 miles, manufacturor defect,vw is having the coil remanufactured. Dealer says part could take up to 2 months because of back orders. This simply states they can't keep up with the supply and demand as so many have to be replaced. Part should be recalled and dealer replace all 4 coils.
I own a 2001 Jetta 1. 8t wolfsburg. The car had a coil pack failure on November 28, 2002 and again on December 30, 2002.
Coil pack failure (2nd in less than 3000 miles).
>I have a car problem. I have a 2002 Jetta and have made only 9 payments. >> it has been in the shop 2 times in a month, both times it was a "coil" >> problem and 2 coils had to be replaced. I have found out that this is a >> major problem and vw has chosen not to issue a recall on the cars affected by this "coil" problem. I see tons of notes on the internet from people all over the us with the same issue. Some people are having to wait over a month for the part to come in b/c vw cannot make enough, quickly enough. Who should I contact to express my concern and hopefully get a recall issued? I have called vw directly and they just tell me they are sorry >> and offer me 100. 00 gift cert for their merchandise. There are 4 coils in >> the engine, so at this point some of us just have to cross our fingers and >> pray we don't break down again, instead of vw just recalling the cars and >> replacing all of the coils at one time, they say they must be broken to be >> fixed.
I had a coil pack burn out on my 2001 vw Jetta - it has 21000 miles. It appears to be a known problem and many people are experiencing this failure. Vw (and Audi) will only replace coils when they individually burn out. Vw/Audi should recall and replace all coils either at the time of burn out or before it becomes an issue. The number of people who have had this problem suggest that the coils are either defective or the design of the vehicle is faulty. The manufacturer should be responsible for this even if the vehicles warranty has expired. Ts.
While traveling on the highway the check engine light appear on the dashboard. Causing the coil pack to leak oil. Please provide additional information dealer is aware of the problem. Ts.
Coil packs which control spark to the engine failed on cylinders #2 and #4. Replaced by dealer under warranty. Five days later coil pack on cylinder #3 failed. Also replaced by dealer. The coil pack failures resulted in a considerable loss of power and a foul odor from the exhaust. In addition, the coil pack broke apart allowing the electrical parts to be exposed.
In the last six months my 2002 Jetta 1. 8t has been in the shop 3 times for faulty coil packs and now I need all new fuel injectors. This is a serious safety issue that should be investigated. I have had 2 new sets of redesigned coil packs and I still get an engine light causing the car to lose power and run rough, not something you want happening to you while driving 65 miles a hour on a busy highway. I wish Volkswagen would issue a recall before someone really gets hurt.
Failure results in disabling of vehicle. Vw is only replacing failed coils even though they admit that the others will probably fail eventually. Dt.
Coil has broken twice in two weeks. Known issue with vw and they refuse to replace all potentialy defective parts, only will replace currently broken parts. Dt.
I would like to register a complaint about the coil pack failure on my 2000 vw Jetta - this is a serious safety issue that vw of America refuses to address. This coil pack fails and causes immediate loss of power in the engine - I was driving and lost power in 2 of the 4 cylinders. Vw did not cover my replacement. This is happening on numerous vws. There should be a recall - it is a defect.
One coil pack failure in miami, repaired by esserman vw. Another failed in NW georgia mountains, repaired by obtaining part thru local techician. Dt.
The vw Jetta 1. 8 turbo motor has coil-packs that continually fails. My car is 1. 5 years old and has for thru 4 coilpacks. When a coilpack dies, it causes the car to not really run, on 2-3 cyclinders vs 4. . Thus leaving you stranded. I used to work till mid-night and drive 50+ miles each way to work. Due to coil-pack failures I have been left stranded twice after midnight. This is very fustrating. You never know if you car will make it home. Nothing like buying a brand new car, and having more porblems than my used previous car.
This is a complaint about my 2002 volkswagon Jetta 1. 8t that has been towed twice to repair faulty engine coils. Volkswagon refused to replace all for coils and says the only way they will replace them is if they fail.
Request for full reimbursement in the amount of $1898. 94 for unwarranted repairs. (nar).
Cylinder coil packs are the problem. Dims 11 ivoq entry posted after 12/12/2002 cut-over-to artemis. . . . . . 770758.
Each time it rains heavy enough for water to splash underneath the car when driving (ie a puddle; splash for another vehicle driving by; car wash) - the car stalls, has to be towed and ends up having the ignition wires replaced. This has averaged about 1-2x per year since I bought the car in August of 1996.
