Oxygen sensor code comes up, then all lights coming on, when vehicle is in motion. This car had a carfax sheet stating no problem and repairs done by micheal automotive in fresno CA. No recall ever mentioned, now a young mans first car , nothing but problems, only picked up because car fax stated it had no problems, now a safty concern.

The rear O2 sensor on my 2003 Volkswagen Jetta failed causing the mil indicator to illuminate. The sensor had to be replaced, and is not covered under the extended warranty for emissions.

Ignition coil failed, was told the O2 sensor was bad and needed new spark plugs, I had just replaced the spark plugs 5 days earlier, they only had 11 miles on them, so it cannot be spark plugs, question whether the O2 is truly bad, having ignition coil replaced but was unable to tell whether the catalytic converter is also bad until other problems are corrected.
September 2002 - leased 2002 vw Jetta 1. 8t. July 2003 - check engine light came on, ignition coils had to be replaced per recall. November 2003 - plumes of black smoke came out of tailpipe - they determined the oxygen sensor needed replacing. November 2003 - (a day later) smoke still coming out of tailpipe, they determined there was oil in the turbo, they had to remove and install new turbo charger and there was an oil leak, they had to remove and install oil line. November 2003- car making whoosing noise, had to rescure loose intake hose. May 2004 - replace breaklight switch per recall. July 2004 - drivers side window fell - had to have both windows and clamps replaced per recall. (if this had happened after hours, my car could have easily been vandilized, fortunately it was during the day and I was near the dealer so they were able to get them wedged shut before they could get the car in to be fixed. )
July 2004 (a day later) - battery died, got jumped and was towed to shop, it was determined I needed a new battery. No problems for almost a year, thought I was homefree. . . May 2005 - clacking noise in engine, sludge on dipstick and in oil fill cap. No oil light or check engine light ever came on. Had to also have hazard switch replaced per recall. I am currently waiting to see if they will cover the repairs under my warranty. My car needs to have the oil pan removed to see if there is any further damage. I was never told to you use synethic oil in my car and that apparently is the cause of the sludge problem. From looking online, it seems many more people than just myself have had this problem. Vw needs to recall this.

Starting on may 23,2003 I started taking my Jetta vr6 into the dealership due to the fact that the check engine (mil) light was on and occasionally while driving the car would die. I would drive at 40 mph or be at a stop sign and either way the car would just drop all power. I lost control of steering and everything else and would have to restart the car while driving down the road. The 1st time I was told that a 40,000-mile tune up would fix the situation. It occurred again after the tune about two weeks later, and I was informed that it was an O2 sensor and the mass flow sensor that has problems. They paid for the mass flow sensor and it's labor and I paid for the O2 sensor and it's labor. After the repair and replacement it occurred (with in the same week); they said it was another O2 sensor and they paid for the labor where I paid for the part. On the fourth visit, they said that it was the catalytic converter and one of the 2 O2 sensors that had already been replaced had gone bad again. They paid for both of these issues and assured me the problem was fixed. It wasn't the next time they told me it was the alternator. After much discussion I asked them to drive it and make sure as the alternator they wanted me to buy was $700. They called back a week later and said they were wrong it was the battery instead and that I owed them $125. I paid because I was too tired to argue anymore. That was on 8/9/03. On 10/6/03 the car died again. They are now saying it is the ignition switch and that it was causing the battery to drain (meaning to me, I may not have needed to purchase a new battery 2 months ago). They wanted me to pay for the part and half the labor because the car is out of warranty (only came with 2/24k). Starting to wonder what will they blame it on (and charge me for) next month. Car is currently at 48500.

Check engine light continuously comes on, completed recall for brake switch, epc light continues to come on, car stalls while waiting for a light to change very dangerous. After a night of rain, leak in passenger side floor mold growing car will have a very hard start or no start at all in the morning, replaced battery 3 times. Changed O2 sensor 2x, car burns oil continuously, interior lights go out when they feel like it, brake lights die out fast, changed brake lights and signal lights at least 5x.
I thought my first new car purchase (a 2000 Jetta vr6 GLS) was a lemon. I, like many others, have experienced several problems. Problems such as: - rear cup holders broken - middle/rear seatbelt locked, cannot be used - 02 sensors both replaced since mil light kept illuminating - mas sensor replaced (and later recalled) - both front windows have fallen to the "black hole" (and later recalled; including a recall to the recall b/c they went from metal clips to plastic or vice versa) - paint peeling from inside door handles - alarm system faulty on passenger side door (dealer told me that unless the car beeps at me, the alarm is not secured. So, I must lock the door. Stand by for 15 seconds, lock the door again and this time when the car beeps, the passenger door is secured. And, furthermore, (this is good - keep reading) I was told that if I drive too close to a jea bus, their bus computer systems are run on the same channel as my Jetta's computer system and sometimes being too close to a jea bus will cause my cars computer system to scramble). Computer system can be reset, and did you know that while resetting, vw can make your car beep in different patterns? that's probably a "feature"! - center console/armrest latch broken - large spring sits underneath my passenger side front seat - seat belt no longer click, indicating locked in position (dealer told me it still works. So, now I have to push it down and then tug on it, hoping that it really is locked -- if not, I may fly out that recalled window. ) - child restrain seat locks recalled - trunk lock wouldn't stay latched - front fender separating from body of car - grinds going into second gear (manual transmission) - when car is put into 1st gear, it waits a few second before it gets enough power to fully accelerate - brake dust covers alloy wheel, in just hours of cleaning drivers wanted. . . But they're all in the dealer waiting room!.
Vehicle experienced several recalls/ and several problems: dome light, vanity mirrors, emissions problems, etc. . . The consumer experienced the following problems with: the interior dome lights, interior trim had come loose on the passenger side, the passenger vanity mirror light did not shut off, the cup holder was jammed and had broken, the driver window sounded as if air was coming in the vehicle, the glove compartment hinges had broken, the air bag light would come on when the radio was turned off, the sensors never seemed to work, the oil dipstick had given abnormal readings(showing low when oil was just changed), the lean oxygen sensor was replaced, the check engine light was intermittent but stayed on, and the catalytic converter was replaced due to noise which ended after the repair(the check engine light had come back on).

My check-engine light has come on three times since late November. The first time it was a cracked vacuum hose. The second time (within two weeks of fixing the first problem) it was the mass air meter. The third time, it came on 5 hours after I was rear-ended January 6th but the dealer said it was not related to the accident. They said it was the oxygen sensor. The serviceman I spoke with at the dealership said he has noticed that this model seems sensitive, causing the check-engine light to come on so frequently. I'm frustrated that none of this is under warranty and with the frequency of these occurrences.
Air bag was repaired 5 times and spiral spring replaced - light still indicates malfunctioning system. Consumer states that brake light was inoperative and the electrical connectors were replaced, installed front heated oxygen sensor, install 6 disc cd changer, battery was replaced and wiring harness war replaced. Owner is no longer in possession of the vehicle.
My lights, wipers and heat wouldn't work, discovered it was the ignition switch. Contacted vw, and dealer, they want to charge me too much to fix it. I know 3 other people with Jettas that had the same problem. Obviously vw is installing defective ignitions. My emergency brake wasn't releasing, took it to dealer and they informed me that I had a torn brake cable boot that was allowing moisture to get in and freeze my cable. The 2 yr/24,000 mile warranty was expired. My check engine light started going on and off, when I took it to the dealer, it took them 3 times to figure out it's the rear oxygen sensor. This is the first brand new car I have ever purchased and I have had more things wrong with it than I ever had with previously owned vehicles.
