Over the last few months, starting in March, we have had increasing problems with our 2007 vs Passat wagon. When stopped at a stop light, or stalled in heavy traffic, the engine suddenly just cuts out and dies. The car will restart again, but this can happen repeatedly. Also, while driving, the car will suddenly begin to lose power and start to DE-accelerate for a few seconds before pressure on the gas pedal reconnects to the engine. It's terrifying. We have taken the car in to numerous service providers (all authorized vw) and they are unable to detect a problem on the vw plug in computer analyzer or see anything wrong on visual inspection.

Check engine turned on. My car starts to lose power. There was a misfire at #2 cylinder according to the auto mechanic. . In a stopped position or when I turn car off, I smell something burning. Had new coil installed and did a road test. The car was still misfiring. Checked again, and all ignition coils needed to be replaced. In 01/2012, again, there was a misfire at the #2 cylinder. The burning smell returned. I had that repaired. In 05/2012, again, there was a misfire at the #3 cylinder. The burning smell returned. I had that repaired.

The car will occasionally, yet sporadically, not start. The key gets stuck in the ignition. The car sounds like it is going to start but it stalls. The error message sometimes says steering wheel lock defective. This happens at all times of the day, including when I leave from work. The car was taken to the dealership once before the warranty ran out and once after and they could not diagnose the problem.

This took several attempts before the key dislodged. After several attempts, the vehicle restarted. She stated this was the second occurrence of the failure. The vehicles motor began making an irregular noise ( sounded like an airplane engine) between 2-3rpms and there was serious vibration through the entire vehicle. The vehicle chugged along at low speeds and the steering was difficult and not that responsive. There was serious vibration through the vehicle was left at the service center on Friday as it was late in the day. Upon returning on Monday morning, the technician informed me that the motor mount bolts (two) were missing and the threads for each was completely stripped. The motor was rocking back and forth creating this dreadful noise. The threads were restored using tap and dye set and new bolts were installed. I was informed that sometimes the bolts snap and this is a manufacturers defect. I was told there were other signs of damage and I kind of feel something will be found once my warranty is up as a result of this mishaps.

2000 Volkswagen Passat. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle that die unexpectedly at various speeds the consumer stated the vehicle has stalled while making turns across highways and entering freeways. The vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times where different components were replaced, but the stalling continued.
2003 Volkswagen Passat. The contact stated the vehicle stalled at highway speeds. There was no warning lights that came on before this occurred. The vehicle was pulled over, and it started up immediately. The vehicle was taken to the dealership, and they had it for 77 days. The vehicle was returned to the contact twice. The dealership replaced a coil pack, spark plugs, and four brake light bulbs. The dealership told the contact the vehicle was ready, he picked it up and drove 3 miles and the vehicle stalled. He immediately took the vehicle back to the dealership. They contacted technical support, who told the dealership to check for the electrical grounds. The dealership then took the vehicle on a test drive and it stalled again. The factory service engineers said to put every electrical wire on the car through an ohm test. All of the wires checked out, and no out of tolerance ratings were found. They told the dealership to check the ignition key adaptation, and the security system for proper function. No problems were found. They found nothing definitive at that point. The technician told the dealership to replace the engine wire harness that was replaced August 8, 2005. The vehicle was then picked up on August 10, 2005. The contact went on vacation, and 175 miles later the vehicle stalled again on the interstate. The vehicle was taken back to the dealership; they found 20 fault codes in the engine computer. They replaced the vacuum pump on August 25, 2005. They road tested it and it stalled. The contact was trying to get Volkswagen to take the vehicle back. The vehicle is still at the dealership, and they are still working on it. The dealership is now going to replace cylinder heads. It was finally determined that the fuel pump relay was the problem and the reason why the dealer could not determine the problem the first seven times was because they were relying on the computer to display codes. 2005 Volkswagen Passat developed problems with stalling. The consumer was told by the dealer, the engine was damaged.

I have a 2000 vw Passat GLS sedan (automatic) 1. 8t engine. I have taken the car to service every 5k miles to vw and then to a reputable mechanic (have all the service records). It is currently at 82,000 miles. 2 months ago the car stalled on the road. The oil check light had been on for awhile. I had called vw regarding the sensor light and they said that it is only a sensor problem, and not worry about it. After investigation, the car is in need of a new engine. Cam shafts 3 and 4 were dry and not receiving oil. I submitted the car to vw to claim under the 10 year/100k mile powertrain warranty. After 2 months of investigations, vw USA has denied my claim and states that this is due to poor maintenance. The mechanic shop I take my car to is very reputable. My family and friends have and continue to go to this shop and have never had a problem. I am in the stages of legal action against vw USA.

Engine continues to misfire, loses power and starts to stall while driving . Four attempts to correct the problem have failed. Problem presents a significant safety issue for driver and passengers.
While driving at 40 mph, the vehicle vibrated uncontrollably. Without warning then the vehicle stalled. The driver tried to restart the vehicle but was unable to do so. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic informed the driver that the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer replaced the mass air flow sensor and cleaned the fuel pump relay to resolve the stalling problem. The radio was inoperative due to a short in the wiring.

Our car has been into the dealer 6 times in nine months. 5 times for the same, serious problem. The car stalls with no warning and for apparently no reason. The dealer was able to duplicate the problem once, but unable to fix it and unable to duplicate the problem the next 4 times. I don't know what causes the car to stall other than it seems to happen on hot days when the air condition is on and often in traffic. When the car stalls neither the brakes nor the steering will work until it can be restarted. Vw cannot fix the car and will not replace it or refund my money. Their response, "sue us. ".

Customer states that while driving at any speed the vehicle will stall without warning making it hard for the driver to control the vehicle, the dealer has been notified.
Nar 3-10-03 with the consumer vehicle having less than 7000 miles, many problems occurred, the front and rear windows froze from the inside, the vehicle began to stall, the ignition coil needed to be replaced, the glove compartment flooded when it rained or snowed, also the carpets and pollen filter were damaged due to the flood. The consumers was very disappointed and suggested that a full refund be given or have Volvo to give them a new 2003 Passat, equally equipped as the 2002 at the same purchase price.
I bought my 2000 Volkswagen Passat from georgia auto square in athens, GA. It was brand new with no miles. I have had all service requirements & recommendations done at this dealer. My car hesitates & loses power when trying to pass other cars on two lane roads, accelerating onto the expressway or accelerating while on the expressway. I have taken my car to the dealer one hour away six to seven times over a year (not including the times it was in for routine maintenance). They have kept my car over 50 days trying to find the problem, which they claim, is a wet air filter. They told once that they had to remove the snow guard, which worked with other cars experiencing this problem (obviously I am not the only one). This seems bizarre since it doesn't appear to be weather related. How does water get into an air filter (if that in fact is the problem) and why after all this time haven't they been able remedy it? I have had numerous close calls involving my family & other drivers unfortunate enough to be near me during these power failures. Being in several life threatening situations after being assured that my car was fixed, their service manager apologized for "my inconvenience". Three weeks ago while driving to a funeral, my car stalled while merging at I-985 & I-85. After suddenly losing power & terrifying me and the driver behind me, who saw that I experiencing trouble, the car finally started jerking, let out a billow of smoke & finally (and thankfully) caught & drove on. I have been forced to drive a Nissan with 240,000 miles on it while I pay for a Volkswagen with a little over 40,000 miles, which once again sits at the dealer's. This time he has had it for over a week (test driving, yet again) the car I am paying for. He has admitted previous times experiencing the exact problems I reported while driving the vehicle. Yet, the dealer and the Volkswagen rep continue to exercise reckless disregard for my life, my family's lives, and others on the road. Dt.
