1 Computer Failure problem of the 2001 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 11/07/2010

Class action law suit settled with vw for oil sludge. This makes no sense by the time the settlement was reached my 2001 vw Passat, 1. 8 turbo was not covered. 7 or 8 weeks ago I took my vehicle into the vw dealer (halmark vw of madison) they told me I had a sludge problem and did not even mention that it was a known problem or that the law suit was underway- very sneaky. They told me to replace my engine or to change the oil every 1000 miles for awhile. My abs and computer module failed at the same time with no one taking responsibility for it. Now I have the problem but have no way to get it resolved.

2 Computer Failure problem of the 1999 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 06/18/2008

I got in my car one morning and started the abs lights and brake lights come on the instrument panel and has pretty much been on since and I have noticed without abs my car doesn't stop near as fast as it used to the dealer said it was the abs computer failed and the manufacture would have to send me anew one but that it was really pricy to fix and a group that I am with also drive the same cars a large number of them and there's has failed just like mine did.

3 Computer Failure problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 02/28/2006

Design defect results in failure of computer due to water flooding. Computer failure results in disabling of vehicle and expensive repairs. This condition caused by parking the car where leaves occasionally fall onto it. Reason: windshield drains into compartment containing the battery, which has a drain hole located under the battery, requiring removal of battery to properly clean. Drain gets clogged due to leaves, resulting in battery compartment filling with water. When this happens, water enters passenger compartment foot well. I took my car to vw dealer with this condition and they told me the computer could get flooded/ruined and this would not be covered under warranty due to "external influence". They agreed to clean the drain free of charge, but were unable and unwilling to provide me with a service advisory that the drain must be cleared to prevent computer damage. I contacted vw of America and they acknowledge the problem over the phone but refused to provide any written statement of the existence of the problem and refused to provide a written, permanent remedy for this problem, or to modify the car so this would not happen.
