37 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 09/18/2023

After having the government approved and mandated phase 1 and 2 dieselgate fixes performed on my vw Passat tdi it has randomly lost power and or stalled while at highway speeds at least 6 times. The last time my 16 year old son was left stranded in the middle of a busy four lane highway narrowly avoiding being hit and seriously injured and/or killed. Apparently there are thousands of these cases (a class action lawsuit filed in 2018) on the road. Why haven't I been notified? this mandatory fix is much more dangerous then the original issue it seeks to address. From what I understand, the fix is causing the dpf regeneration sequence to occur much more often and much hotter, thereby cooking/melting/boiling the entire cooling system and shutting the engine down without warning. My vehicle has been in the service dept of vw for over 6 months (this last time) because they cannot figure how to fix it permanently. Vw corporate is very aware of the situation and has fed me a bunch of bullshit not even a child would believe and has refused my suggestion to self report the problems to nthsa and carb. If the cars are not taken off the road this issue will definitely (if not already) result in major injuries and likely death. I have done my duty notifying this government agency and now if a tragedy occurs there will have been actual notice as required by the law.

38 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 09/10/2023

First/only owner of a 2018 vw Passat gp r-line, scheduled maintenance intervals followed religiously and performed by vw; only filled with top tier fuel (mid/premium), no prev. Indicator lights ever illuminated until ecm light (no accompanying warning lights) came on while driving at highway speed with adaptive cruise control engaged. Immediate loss of power and shaking vibration upon any attempt to accelerate/change lanes to safely get off of roadway. Once off roadway, all systems shut down and engine turned off for several minutes. Restarted car w/o difficulty, remained parked for 5 more minutes to monitor ecm light which did not return after shut down/restart. Returned to highway while safely merging into lane with conservative acceleration. Ecm warning light did not return and vibration/shutterring had ceased. No unusual or abnormal gas mileage readings found upon close monitoring. Vehicle was driven x3 (relatively short distances) with speeds no greater than 65 mph; no return of ecm or any other warning lights. On the 4th drive, while attempting to evade an idiot, accelerator was applied more aggressively so as to avoid a near-catastrophic collision (nowhere to slow down or go to shoulder safely within 0. 75/sec) which triggered the ecm light accompanied with loss of power/shuttering/vibration when pressure applied to accelerator. Pulled over, shut down, waited, panicked a little, then restarted engine. Ecm light did not reappear after shut down/restart. Vehicle operated flawlessly once more. Injector/fuel system cleaner added to fuel tank and driven 40 mins in sport mode to burn corrosive buildup effectively. Fuel tank refilled at new fueling station (thinking bad gas was a differential) and no issues since. Codes not showing up when diagnostics are ran. Vw won’t fix something that isn’t presenting itself as a problem, at that very moment. 93k miles w/ no prev. Engine/emissions/transmission probs.

41 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 06/30/2023

Intake manifold runner is failing. This could suddenly put the vehicle in limp mode on the open highways, resulting in a hazardous situation due to sudden slowing. Mil light is illuminating and diagnostics from meineke car care center confirms failure of the intake manifold runner. Similar issues have been noted with past vw models, with intake manifold warranty extension to 10 years, 120,000 miles for 2006-2008, 2008-2012, and 2013-2017 model years. It seems the problem continues through 2018 as I reached 90,000 miles with a failure. Volkswagen service specialists was quoted as "that sounds about right" so the problem clearly lingers for the 2018 model years and beyond.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 06/19/2023

I financed a car from a car place (mainline) auto in March, there’s been some lights on it, I mentioned this numberless times also, the steering wheel was completely out of commission and the horn did not work, or the mileage, I talk with him he said bring it in and he will fix it, he fixed the steering wheel 2 weeks later but there’s lights still on the vehicle, last Friday 06/16/2017 I got an email saying I need to make a payment of the months that I missed not intentionally, so I proceed to call the dealer and she said she would make note that I will come into the office Monday morning 06/19/2023 so that the car wouldn’t be repossessed, afterwards come sun I woke up around 11:30 and the car was gone, I called my insurance company pear holdings and they opened up a claim, I also called jacksonville police department and they told me that it was repoed. Went up there Monday and payed tons of money that I had no idea I was being charged or responsible for, after I argued about the missing information and lack of communication so this would not happen, after I payed to get the car I walked to get inside and on the the front window it said (caught slipping) in white marker , I tried to get it off the a wet paper towel but it didn’t come off so I went inside the place and told her about the writing and she called someone from the back in a language I’m not fluent with and told me I would need to talk with them, that was already a red flag as well, when I got to the back of the dealer place outside I asked one of the mechanics could he come over and see if he could wipe it off, this is harassment, favoritism, mis handled information, long waits for watever reason I’ve asked them numerous of times to just give me the money that I put down on the car back that I didn’t even give them personally same week I brought it, they got my card info from the insurance company that wasn’t authorized by me I would like to take further action because I’m still making payments.

44 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 05/03/2023

Currently my reverse lights do not come on I have changed the bulbs and checked fuses. It started with one reverse light, however the warning light would come on and off on my dashboard. Next, the other reverse light so I attempted to change both bulbs and change fuses. Still not working. Now it is also my low beam headlights again changed the bulbs and fuses with no fix. My vehicle flickers a light in my rear lights when vehicle is off. My engine is having cooling problems and now the fan is completely off. I have electrical problems. I bought this car a year ago and have had issues with the power of the vehicle and suspension is very unstable. I have not had a check engine light come on for any of these problems so mechanics don't have a solution. My headlights are now not in the right position when I do turn them on so it makes it extremely hard to see at all at night. My vehicle seems to overheat or just on and off drive with very little power. I have had the battery replaced recently. I have always felt extremely unsafe driving this vehicle since I bought it from a dealer. I believe these issues are related to recall 94l9, 94g8/7v, 23w5.

Failure Date: 03/20/2023

On November 11, 2022, the byers vw in columbus, OH, diagnosed my vehicle as having a defective crank case breather, which cases the oil to be burned off. It was replaced, and on March 20, 2023, I returned to the vw dealer with the same complaint. They told me that the vehicle had faulty internal parts, and suggested a engine replacement or rebuild, at a cost of $9,800. The vehicle was maintained, according to the recommended service intervals, ever 10,000 miles, at byers imports. A well maintained vehicle with 67,000, should not require an engine replacement. Subject: request for VIN review and recall inclusion – camshaft/vacuum pump failure (recall 23r1) dear Volkswagen customer care / NHTSA representative, I am writing to formally request a manual review of my vehicle’s VIN in relation to recall 23r1, which addresses camshaft lobe interference with the brake vacuum pump in certain 2015 Volkswagen Passat models. My vehicle, a 2015 Passat, recently experienced a failure of the **brake vacuum pump**, which required replacement. Upon inspection, it was determined that the **camshaft was interfering with the pump**, consistent with the failure mode described in recall 23r1. Despite this, my VIN does not currently show an open recall. Given the alignment of symptoms—including camshaft-related damage and vacuum pump failure—I believe my vehicle should be included in the scope of this recall. I am requesting: - a manual review of my VIN and production batch - consideration for inclusion in recall 23r1 - reimbursement or goodwill support for the repair costs already incurred I have documentation of the repair and am happy to provide technician notes that confirm the nature of the failure. I appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to your response.

56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 08/09/2022

It just died and I lost brakes, power steering, and only know what else stopped working. Come to find out the splines wear off of the oil pump shift after the counter balance and chain goes out. This is so common a problem that when you google what happened there are numerous videos and complaints about this issue, with ways to stop it from happening. Korea has already recalled them and europe has recalled them, why are we so far behind on this. Not only is it expensive, but also a major safety issue because this stops the brakes from working and the car does not have stopping power with the motor dead. Not everyone knows to report to NHTSA!.

57 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 07/20/2022

The timing belt is terrible on this vehicle. This is the same model and engine as the last recall but mine didn’t qualify because it is a 2007 not a 2008. The belt is and chain are completely unstable and prone to catastrophic failure that can happen anytime while driving especially on the highway. This could cause a huge accident. There is also a major issue with the fuel pumps and the hoses. My fuel tank is leaking gas above 3/4 of a tank and can cause a severe fire even if someone dropped a lit cigarette under the car while I am driving.

61 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 05/25/2022

To start off, this car has common failures of the high pressure fuel pump cam follower. This poses serious risk of damage to the engine when the follower is blown throw and the car goes into limp mode and if this happens on road it could be catastrophic. There were no warnings that this was the issue besides researching videos on youtube while getting a fuel pressure code to find out the cam follower was completely blown throw which means my engine has many metal pieces inside of my engine. If I did not catch this soon the next failure would’ve been the camshaft. The camshaft going bad at and given moment could also be catastrophic on the road and possibly even spark a fire. Another issue is with the timing chain on specific fsi engines. If this chain snaps mid drive then your engine could potentially blow in the middle of the road causing an accident. This problem is known by Volkswagen and they have yet to take serious action in regards to this safety hazard. Another potential for catastrophic events is the wiring harness specifically the one that runs under the vacuum pump. These wires are covered in oil from the vacuum pump being prone to leaking and any fluid that goes on top of it. I also discovered that near my ecu to that wiring harness there was a spot of gasoline in which I was able to determine when I smelt the fluid with a glove on of course. This year make and model of Volkswagen can cause serious harm to those driving especially on the high way. The wiring harness and all components around it soak with oil and when you take off the manifold fuel also gets all over it even when you try to prevent it as much as you can. This has caused increased idle in my vehicle while driving with and epc light that makes the car stall out of no where. If it happened when I was turning my wheel it could’ve caused an accident on the road or even a driver to have road rage behind me. Please help myself and fellow Passat owners of this year stay safe.

62 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 04/29/2022

The car consumes one quart of oil per week. Also, the electronic stabilization control and abs cause the car to sputter and stop. This happened in 2019 and now it is happening again in 2022.

Vw bcm unit causes vehicle to idle then shut off while driving making it impossible to steer or increase speed.

64 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 04/03/2022

The contact owns a 2014 Volkswagen Passat. The contact stated that while driving a 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic where she informed the mechanic that she had to top off the oil reservoir with 1 to 2 quarts of oil every two weeks. The mechanic informed her that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of oil and referred her to the dealer for assistance. The vehicle was then towed to a dealer where she was informed that the upper timing chain cover and transmission oil cooler needed to be replaced. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA campaign number: 14v182000 (power train) which she linked to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and she was informed that her vehicle was not included in the recall. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 149,000.

65 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 03/21/2022

I purchased this car brand new oct 2016. Since then I have experienced multiple sensor failures year after year… at first we thought this was a one time failure but as more and more issues came our concerns grew. I have changed out the radio, 3 speed sensors, and now am having more issues with different symptoms. For example my epc light is no and my check engine is on along with the other typical light I have seen with my speed sensor issues. I can not confidently pass any cars because the car stalls at 3000 rpms. I consider this car a safety issue on the road and I do not want this car anymore because I do not know what hidden failures will appear later on after fixing these.

66 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 03/17/2022

Drove the car to and from work that day with no problems. Also, went back to work a 2nd side job that evening with no issues. Got home, shut the car off and when my wife and I went out to go to work the next morning at 5 a. M. , the car wouldn't start at all. Wouldn't even click. Did a lot of research because I had the starter replaced about 2 weeks before and knew it couldn't be the starter and also had bought a new battery when I had the starter replaced as well, so knew it wouldn't be the battery. After a lot, I mean a lot of research online, finally came to the decision it was the timing chain tensioner was faulty. When I went to replace the tensioner for the timing chain, I took my camera and put it in the cylinder heads and found out that there was 2 broken valves in the number 3 piston. One was broken and sideways in the piston and the other just broken. I'm not sure whether a rod has gone through the bottom of the head or not, couldn't get my camera to go that far down. So now I have no vehicle what-so-ever to drive back and forth to work. My wife had to resign from her job because she had no way to get there everyday and I have to pay someone gas money weekly to pick me up and bring me home from work so needless to say, we are currently struggling, can't pay our bills because my wife cannot get a job and now I have to figure out how to repair this damage that should have been made a recall for these Volkswagens because by the looks of things, there are over 100 people that have had this same problem. An engine is going to be between $4,000 and $6,000 to repair and I have no way to fix this at that price. So now I am probably going to have to just junk the car.

68 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 02/15/2022

My 2013 vw Passat with only 61576 miles showed problems with heat on driver side and no heat for passenger side . Brought car to dealer on 2/15/2022 and was told heater core was defective and should be changed because it could cause car to over heat and cause damage to engine if not taken care of. I had the car repaired at $1000. 00 out of my pocket because they wouldnt cover it in their warrenty. Multiple vw forum members have the same experiance . I contacted vw customer care and they would not help. I believe this is a major recall that could cause someone to blowup their engine for a poor quality heatercore.
