2 Instrument Panel problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

The speedometer does not register actual speeds. It is pessimistic by 4 mph at highway speeds. Vw's own climatic control diagnostic readout indicates a speed that is 2 mph greater than the speedometer reads. Furthermore, the tripometer average speed reads 3 mph greater than the speedometer. Multiple gps units all agree to within a tenth or two mph and indicate a speed that is 4 mph faster than the speedometer. (I. E. Speedometer reads 70 mph, diagnostic readout simultaneously shows 72 mph, tripometer average speed simultaneously shows 73 mph and gps simultaneously shows 74 mph while cruise is set at 70 mph). Vw says it's close enough and that at 70 mph readings between 65 and 75 mph are acceptable!.

3 Instrument Panel problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 03/05/2010

1a. I inserted the key fod and the "steering wheel" light on the instrument panel flashed yellow and the mfd on the instrument panel said, "steering column lock malfunction. Go to vw dealer immediately" 1b. Other times, it's the same, but the "steering wheel" light flashes with red light. 1c. Other times, I must insert the key fod anywhere from 5-20 times before the car even starts. The car won't start and I must repeat the process until it does. 2. It occurs at least 5-9 times per week with the yellow light flashing, 3-5 times a week with red light flashing, and 1-3 times per week when I must repeat the inserting of key fod to turn on. 3a. The vw dealer says they have seen this problem and it usually runs $1500-$2200 to fix. They said they usually replace the steering column module (computer board stuff) and the steering column as well. They say the problem is cause by the module going bad and not responding and telling the computer to turn the car on. 3b. The vw corporate customer care said they cannot help because warranty has expired. I have about 60k miles and warranty expired at 50k miles. . Read more...

7 Instrument Panel problem of the 2001 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 04/07/2008

I have had my 2001 vw Passat for 7 years now and have had it in the shop multiple issues including warped rotors (front and back), cracked chasse, electrical issues and various other problems. Before having this car, I had a Toyota for 8 years and in the 8 years I had the Toyota, I only had it in the shop for routine maintenance. This car is disappointing and everyone I talk to who has a similar model/year says the same thing. I think the 2001 vw Passat is a lemon.

8 Instrument Panel problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 03/31/2008

Fuel pump failure while driving on the freeway the car quite running. 1. 8 liter turbo in o3 vw Passat. Dealer calls and tells us our VIN number is not part of the recall. To call vw of north America and they should cover it. I talk to a women tell her the same thing as above and she ask me to hold while she submits the claim. She comes back on the line after 45 seconds or so and says that they won't cover it. The VIN number is not part of the recall. I ask to speak to a supervisor. I am told there is no one else I can speak to and this is the finally decision of vw of north America. This is not the first failure for this car. Temperature sensor replaced, brake module replaced twice, the heater core replace, the trip tronic shift replaced, instrument panel replaced, the engine flushed for sludge. Cv boots replaced. 10 Instrument Panel problem of the 1997 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 02/01/2007

Vehicle Volkswagen 1997 Passat glx - v6 engine. Full instrument cluster - speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, digital clock. . . Everything on it, does not operate when outside temperature is below 50 degrees. Car must be driven for 10min. , or about 8-12 miles, before instrument cluster returns to normal fuction. Car is being driven without functioning speedometer, and it is difficult to estimate my speed and does not feel safe. There were no significant events leading up to the failure, except instrument cluster would make a buzzing noise when car started and trip mileage would reset. This started a few months before complete failure began. This problem gets worse as time passes, as the instrument cluster problem occurs in warmer weather now. Problem used to occur when temperature was below 35 degrees. Now happens at 50 degrees.

12 Instrument Panel problem of the 1999 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 10/30/2006

: the contact stated while driving various speeds, the abs, oil, and brake lights illuminated and then flashed. There was a beeping noise as a warning signal prior to the illumination of the abs, oil and brake lights. The tachometer also failed. This problem was intermittent and worsen over a two week period. The vehicle was taken to a independent repair shop who indicated there were no codes after the diagnostic testing. They recommended the vehicle be taken to the an authorized dealer. While looking through the owner manual, the contact observed a warning statement that the illumination of the abs and brake lights could result in the locking up of the rear brakes under hard braking. While driving 65 mph on a highway the rear brakes locked causing the contact to lose control of the vehicle. There was no hard braking when this occurred.

13 Instrument Panel problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 07/06/2006

The check engine light came on and stayed on while driving my 2006 Volkswagen Passat. It took the dealer 4 attempts to fix the problem. First they reset the computer two times. The third time they replaced a part. The fourth time they replace the turbocharger. Since this last fix the light has come on once then went off. It now is off while driving.

14 Instrument Panel problem of the 1999 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 05/15/2006

I own a 1999 vw Passat glx with 72,000 miles. Approximately one month ago, the abs light, the brake light, the oil pressure indicator, and the tachometer began to behave erratically. Two weeks ago, the right front caliper stuck in the extended position, starting a wheel fire at the rotor. I replaced the caliper, rotor, and pads. A non-vw service center replaced the remaining rotors and pads, replaced the master cylinder, and flushed/bled the entire system. The problem with the lights and alarms persists. The lights and alarms are usually absent when the vehicle is completely cold, then usually appear after several minutes of driving. The lights and alarms can disappear while driving, then reappear during later driving. I have not contacted vw directly, because I'm concerned what the estimate might be to attempt repair.
