Car would make whirling sounds intermittently, difficulty going up hill, rough idle sometimes, car shut off while driving, car shut off while idling at a light, car had difficulty starting or would start then shake and let out loud and hard bursts of gas from exhaust and cut off, car will start up then lose power, sometimes will start back up. One time it took 3 tries and would not start. Had at vw dealer multiple times since jam 2017 till now. Happened again today after I got gas, shut off then took a while to gain power and epc and check engine light were on then disappeared. Every other time the wngine light would disappear. The last time in March they had the car 10 or so day. Two days later it idled rough. They were busy to check the car now this. Jan 2017 check engine light they said fault p0106/p2188- did software update and advises faults may come back. Feb 2017 engine light they said same faults and manifold pressure sensor failed. Got replaced. March 2017 car stalled in traffic multiple times. They cleaned throttle body. March 2017 in idle car shaking and shut off rpms up and down replaced camshaft position sensor. May 2017 shut off in traffic- replaced n80 valve. 05/05/18 got spark plugs changed. March 7 car shut off three times after getting gas. They had it till March 19 said charcoal canister need replacing then upon pick up said n205 valve cam adjuster solenoid clicking loudly. March 29 noticed hearing whirling sounds and rough idle. Called ealer no one available over weekend. Busy. Today 04/08 car shut off after 2nd gas fill up. Started back slowly epc and engine light steady then it gained power and lights off. Vw corporare advised in 2017 I am out of warranty and have high mileage. Opened claim again today they said same thing but will see if the corporate would be willing to offer assistance. All work has been done via vw dealers.
Recall update: currently, intake manifold needs to be repaired-engine light on-cost $1400. 00. Took car to dealership for fuel pump was told it was replaced but would not give evidence that it was. Side frontal air bag never replaced-was told by dealership did not need it.
While travelling downhill, the engine increased to 400 rpms while travelling at 15-25 mph. I then returned home. The engine light never came on; however, the d (drive) light began flashing, and I realized that the car was in limp mode. It was towed to the dealer, which had serviced the car every 10,000 miles, (and had actually replaced the turbo recirculation valve at 39,637 miles as a result of my concern that there was a burning smell while driving). Roseville Volkswagen diagnosed the current problem as being the multi-clutch assembly, as well as a faulty intake manifold. The intake manifold is covered by a voluntary extended warranty; however, the multi-clutch assembly is not covered in 2010 sedans. It appears that Volkswagen did extend the warranty on 2007-2009 models for the multi-clutch assembly; and it appears from several threads (vwvortex. Com, forums. Tdiclub. Com, myturbodiesel. Com, vweosclub. Com) that the multi-clutch assembly continues to be a problem in 2010 models. Volkswagen of America is taking no responsibility to extend my warranty, which expired at 85,000 miles. I am concerned because the check engine light never appeared, and this could have happened while driving on a freeway, instead of on a street near home. Additionally, this problem may have begun approximately 20,000+ miles ago, as I again smelled a burning smell at that time, and was told by the dealer to ignore it, as it was probably a plastic bag that was burning on the engine. However, the smell lasted for several months, and I now realize from reading the threads that this was probably the beginning of the problem with the multi-clutch assembly.

This is all about vw Passat 2008 2. 0t, it was a rainy day on Saturday (Nov-14) engine started misfire and gave flashing engine check light, immediately went to see the vw service to get the feedback, service guy guessed it might caused due to misfire in one or more cylinder and took vehicle back with engine fluid topoff, on the way back home the engine check light came and stayed constant. So on Monday morning went to vw service to get full diagnose, service guy gave p300 and p301 as random misfires and did additional findings saying intake manifold needs DE-carb with $1000+ in service charge, I declined the repair and got the vehicle back with cleared code. Now the engine is not running smooth and seems it lost turbo power. Even during freeway take over if I press hard on gas peddle engine light flashes for couple times and there is no faster pick up to do smooth over take, if I choose run vehicle under this condition it may not be safe on roads. I read similar complaints reported here. Planning to take back to service center to see if they got any possible recall updates from vw.

My vehicle's check engine light came on and stayed on for several days, and the engine started running abnormally, so I took it to a mechanic. The mechanic discovered that the intake manifold needed to be replaced, in addition to other work on the engine and fuel system. I found out that Volkswagen had issued an extended warranty for the intake manifold and fuel injectors of my vehicle's engine. However, although my engine was of the exact same type included in the extended warranty, Volkswagen claimed I was not eligible for warranty replacement since my vehicle's VIN was not included on the extended warranty list. Considering that my vehicle has been well maintained and is only about 5 years old, I believe that the intake manifold problem is related to the problem that resulted in the warranty extension, and my vehicle should be included in the warranty extension.
This incident had to happen twice for the dealer to see the issue. Accelerating from stop at a light when I reached 3000 rpm the engine stalled and the car will not accelerate. I pulled to the side and turned the car off and turned it back on problem was gone. I took it to the dealer and they could not see any issue. Couple of weeks later same thing happened again but instead of turning the car off or even shifting out of d. I drove the car with that condition directly to the dealer and instructed one of the service technician to get in the car and take a ride with me. He saw the issue and this time believed me and they investigated further and found out that the knock sensors were malfunctioning. I have had nothing but problems with my car. My seat frame was fixed incorrectly twice. My navigation unit replaced twice and vw still ignoring the lag and freezing of the unit. Why pay 5000 more for a navigation and camera for them not to function right. A section of my muffler was malfunctioning as well. Another issue is the key fob. I found out it is effected very easily by interference and when your key fob is in the car it can say key fob not in close proximity. I am very disappointed by this vehicle, I thought vw had better quality standards.
The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Passat. The contact stated while driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The dealer confirmed that the manifold, cam shaft, and throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the problem persisted. The VIN was not available. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 87,000.
The contact owns a 2007 Volkswagen Passat. The contact stated that the engine failed and the vehicle hesitated while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing, which located a failure code that the engine oil container had defective plastic. The failure caused the engine oil to spill onto the top of the manifold. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The VIN and failure mileage were not available.

Bolt failure in cam system, commonly known as the "oil pump bolt failure". The "check engine" & "epc" lights came on. The engine went into it's "safe" mode, limiting acceleration and power. The vehicle was under warranty & taken to the dealer. The dealer confirmed the bolt failure and repairs were made and covered by warranty. The repairs took approximately 1 month to make. Major components replaced were as follows:
2 - timing chains
oil pump gears
oil pump
bolt
timing chain cover
tensioners
software update
the repairs required the removal of some major components, including the intake manifold, valve cover, transmission and side covers. In my case, the timing chain cover prevented the timing chain system from completely falling apart. If this had happened, it would have been complete destruction of the internal components of the engine requiring complete replacement of the engine. My vehicle was approximately 3 weeks and 2000 miles inside the warranty period. In fact, my warranty ran out while the vehicle was at the dealer for the repairs.

2. 0t fsi engine with 44k miles has had multiple issues with misfires in cylinder #2, unresolved after 5 visits to dealership for warranty service. Dealer has followed vw corporate techline instructions and replaced ignition coils (twice), camshaft, fuel pump, hydraulic lifter in bad cylinder, intake breather hose, intake manifold sensor and other parts with no improvement. Car will run ok with no error codes for an average of 3 - 5 days after repair before problem recurs, and condition of engine continues to deteriorate. Due to misfires, unburned fuel is now reaching the catalytic converter (detected by sulfur smell) and likely damaging that component as well. Entire engine vibrates severely due to improper firing sequence and feels as if it wants to jump out of engine compartment. Car has 1 month left on warranty; was advised by dealer that "we want to make sure this is fixed while the car is still under warranty, so you don't have to deal with this out of pocket," but they appear either unable or unwilling to fix the root cause. Dealer has not offered to provide rental or loaner car during multiple repairs, so I have had to rely on a 15-year old vehicle as primary transportation during multiple repairs lasting 1 to 5 days. Will call vw customer care today but do not expect satisfaction, despite the reliability and safety concerns.
I have a 2006 Volkswagen 2. 0t & on the 18th of April as I crossed over a railroad track the car exhaust got very loud. I had to pull over & shut car off. This happened on a Saturday late afternoon so I had my mechanic (not Volkswagen dealer) looked & found the flange that bolts the whole exhaust to the manifold had broke (clean break all the way around ) @ the factory weld, almost like it had never been "tig" welded completely @ the factory. This is something that should not have happened in any circumstance.
- the contact owns a 2002 Volkswagen passsat wagon GLS with a failure mileage of 41,926 . The contact stated that when she tried to start the vehicle it would not start. She noticed white smoke coming from the tail pipe, and some fluid squirting from the brake hose. The contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer, and the contact was informed that there was water in the engine. Also, the dealer determined that the brake booster had condensation build up which was getting into the intake manifold. The manufacturer stated it was an environmental issue due to the climate in which she lived. The current mileage was 42,400.

The engine check light came on, and then smoke started coming out of the tail pipe. Consumer later had the vehicle towed to the dealer, and they found out that there was oil sludge in the engine. The dealer asked for maintenance record. Dealer told the consumer they would not provide service until all receipts were provided, showing oil changes.
Window panel--prevents closing of window. Intake manifold oil leak (gasket).
