1 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 04/15/2020

2013 Passat tdi sel. Emission modification at 28,514 miles. Now 29,200 miles on odometer. Bought the car less than a month ago. Vehicle is equipped with diesel misfueling guard. Stopped at grocery store and also filled up diesel from sam's club. Drove 4 miles down the road around 40 mph and about to enter highway when glow plug indicator started flashing and check engine light illuminated. Heard some rattling and the engine shut down without warning. Coasted over to shoulder. Would not start. Abandoned the car for the night. Next day I had the car towed to vw. They tested the fuel and it tested fine. Diagnosed as a failed high pressure fuel pump. It exploded and sent shrapnel through the fuel lines and forward into the engine and exhaust system. Also sent shrapnel backwards into fuel filter, fuel tank, and low pressure fuel pump. $5500-$7500 repair quoted if not under warranty.

2 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 03/09/2019

Car lost power while driving. Almost caused crash, as I was accelerating and sudden loss of power with cars coming. Car would not rev over 2k rpm, and took about 2 minutes to get to 45mph. Dealer diagnosed car and said high pressure fuel pump was bad. They changed that, fuel filter, and cleaned diesel tank.

3 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2007 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 08/10/2017

The lid for the fuel tank which contains the vehicle fuel filter is cracked and was leaking pressurized fuel underneath the passenger rear seat any time the key was on. This is the exact same problem that Volkswagen has issued recall 20z4 for touareg model vehicles. The first symptom I noticed was the car had to be cranked for only a second or two longer for the engine to start. After about 3 days of experiencing a minor short crank I was parked in a parking structure and had to crank the engine over for almost 20 seconds before the engine started. This is when I began to smell gasoline. I drove the car about 2 miles home and removed the rear seat and fuel pump access panel and found the top of the fuel tank covered in fuel. I took the vehicle to the dealer and they confirmed my diagnosis of a "fuel filter flange" leaking which was replaced and resolved the fuel leak and prolonged crank.

4 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 11/06/2016

The high pressure fuel pump (hpfp) failed while the vehicle was in motion (<10 mph) on a county road, causing the engine to stop, and disabling the vehicle on the side of the road. After being towed, an inspection by the vw dealer revealed that the hpfp failure sent mental pieces throughout the fuel system, including through the fuel filter, ultimately clogging the fuel injectors and rendering the car inoperable. The engine would crank but would not turn over. The dealer noted there was no evidence of gasoline contamination in the fuel tank. This failure occurred with ~1/4 tank of diesel fuel and no other indication of why the pump failed. No indicator lights illuminated on the dash before or after the failure. This failure is not covered under warranty and has resulted in a +$5,000 owner out-of-pocket cost to get the vehicle operational again. Vw has extended the warranty on the hpfp for the same vehicle make/mode for 2012 model year but this vehicle is a 2013 and thus not covered. This occurred on a 2013 vw Passat tdi with ~100,800 miles.

5 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2008 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 08/17/2012

Coming home from the grocery store my wife noticed a fuel smell coming from the back seat. I removed the back seat to see a access panel to the fuel tank. I removed the rubber cap and saw the top housing of the fuel pump, which is plastic, had a crack and fuel was spraying out of the crack. Called dealerships in az and they all said the same thing, no fuel pumps available in the united states. They have discontinued the part # 3c0919051ag and replaced it with 3c0919051am. Why did they have all dealerships return that part and no recall was issued?.
