There is issue with hmi (radio) and instrument panel cluster. The screen goes freeze. This issue is sporadic, and I am concerned about safety of myself and family. I am afraid while driving suddenly instrument panel cluster ipc screen goes freeze not able to see what my vehicle speed is currently. Suddenly if I am not aware what speed I am driving, the control ability of car is less leaving myself and family in vulnerable situation. Another issue, hmi or radio does not backup camera view. It remains in its current screen and not able to figure out who is behind the car, leaving myself and anyone behind the car in vulnerable situation. I have captured the photo of the screen freeze in ipc and have the video of the radio where in it is not displaying the backside while I am r reverse gear. I am seeking help from the department as Volkswagen has left my issue to be reproduced myself and then report to the dealership who is not trained in software issues. Moreover if next time the issue occurs, I am afraid if I would be in a situation to come and report to them and do not go into some serious concerns. This issues are happening mostly when the vehicle is in motion, backup camera can be observed sporadically while vehicle is stationary. Note: there is no way to upload the video, so just uploading the picture of one of the screen freeze instance.

Back up camera, radio do not work on a regular basis. Happened a couple of times in the first year but thought it was just a weird blip. Blue tooth disables my ability to make or receive a call while in the car. Radio cuts off or never comes on while driving or stationary. Telephone voice command is stuck in foreign language and even dealer couldn't get it to change back to english commands. Drivers door lock sticks and won't open from outside and sometimes inside. Need to get out on passenger side. Sometimes getting in I have to go to passenger side and can open from inside. Days can pass and things work ok and then out of no where, they don't work?? maybe electrical or software issue??.

The contact owns a 2015 Volkswagen Passat. The contact stated that while driving at 55 mph, the engine stalled while the battery warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the computer software needed to be updated. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred numerous times. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000.

This car has automatic transmission and from day one I wasn't un-happy with the fact that you could turn the engine off, without having switched the transmission to p. Every automatic car I ever had and I have driven many including hundreds of rental cars over the years. I reported this in 2012 to the dealer right away when the car was new but was told that this was as designed. I, in between, moved and did the same at 2 other dealers and got the same answer. In 99% of the cases I will not forget to put the car in p, but over the years several times I did. When I left the vehicle and saw it started to move I always was so lucky to jump back in the car and but it in p, or pulled the hand break or pushed the brakes. Unfortunately 2 weeks ago I had it again, tried to jump back in the car (I was at the trunk) was half in the car bit it accelerated into a ditch (in front of the car) and my left leg was pulled over the road with very serious scrape wounds. The front of the car was pretty bad damaged. I have never reported this to vw USA service because the dealers told me it had no sense. This must be a simple software fix, because the car has dst transmission which means everything in computer controlled.

Tl the contact owns a 2003 Volkswagen Passat. The contact stated that it took multiple attempts for the vehicle to become operable even when the starter was engaged. The vehicle also experienced an interior water leak and the driver side door latch would not properly latch. In addition, the vehicle experienced a complete loss of engine power and the check engine, brake, and various other warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed as a software failure, and the ignition coil springs were defective and needed to be replaced. The ignition coil springs were replace however the failure recurred. The manufacturer and dealer were not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 190,000.

In below freezing weather, I was trying to leave my child's daycare. When the key is inserted properly into the ignition, the car beeps and presents a warning "steering column lock defective!" it would not start for 45 minutes - just kept turning over and immediately dieing (lost spark, presumably, as part of the immobilization system). Took it to the dealership and they immediately recognized the problem and joking sarcastically implying that this happens all the time - the stalling at startup is a direct result of the steering column lock problem. The entire steering column has to be replaced along with a new control module (around $200 in parts) along with 4 hours of labor (quoted around $375 for me). This problem is widely reported on Passat message boards with initial costs being as high as $1,900 until vw of America recently discovered a more cost effective way to fix the issue. Also, vw of ireland has acknowledged this as a software defect (see irish times article from 11/4/2009 entitled "staring problems with a vw Passat"). There are reports that vw of canada are repairing this for free on out of warrantied vehicles as well. How many have to fail in America before it's a recall? wouldn't a computer fault keeping a car from starting be a safety issue? what happens if the module fails while driving - either the car determining the key isn't correct would stop the engine, or if the steering column does lock while driving at highway speeds?.

Events leading to failure. First the fuel tank door switch became inoperable forcing me to remove the opening mechanism which allowed me to open it manually. Two days later the alarm began to sound on it's own, and did so for at least 8 hours or more. By the end of the night the car would not turn over and all the functions in the drivers side door as well as the alarm, ceased to operate apart from the locks. I had to remove the drivers side seat and carpet to access the convenience control module and subsequent wiring, while underneath the carpet I tried to suction up as much moisture as I could off the bottom of the floor and out of the padding. As of know I am quoted to purchase a new convenience control module to correct the situation.
