On 01/24/25 around 9pm I was leaving a friend house headed home. I took the i76 route home because it's faster. As I'm getting off on my exit, coming up on the first stop sign I start pressing down on the break pedal and all of a sudden the car engine shuts off and comes to a sudden seizure like halt. I put on my hazards lights instantly, put the car in park and proceeded to to start the car again. After like 10 failed start attempts. I decided to give it a rest and that's when I realized that there key would not come out the ignition, I had to turn the ignition back and forth twice before it was released. After that I waited about 25 minutes, and have it another shot but this time I stepped on the gas while attempting to start the car and it came back on. I went home parked and since that day the car won't turn over but everything still comes on. There are no codes, showing, no damage to the car at all it's still pretty much new. Vw says there nothing they can do because my VIN is not on the recall list but I'm literally experiencing the same mechanical issued that are listed on the recall for my exact model. Can someone please offer me a solution that doesn't involve me paying for an issue that is listed on recall for free repair!!!!!.

I bought this van just a few weeks ago. One day I was driving and all a sudden it lost power while in motion. This has happened 4xs so far. It could've resulted in the inability to stop my vehicle as the brakes are stiff after the power & engine stop working. It could've resulted in either I hit someone or someone could've hit me. My cousins husband had a town and country that did this & it was on a recall for the ignition switch failure. He's a mechanic. He has also stated what is going on is the ignition switch failure going into accessory mode while I'm driving. It's available to be inspected I just don't have the money to have it inspected at this point by a dealership.
Loss of steering while driving, fluid loss multiple times since late September 2024(all while driving and no lights or warnings came on), 2 snapped serpentine belts, key ignition sticking(would not turn), dashboard not lighting up, rpm no longer rests below 1. 5 - 2, car struggles to accelerate(especially uphill), car turns over and struggles to start, even though has newer battery. 1/9/25 driving to an appointment, upon reaching destination, a pop sound. No smell, no warnings came up on dashboard. Upon leaving, saw fluid leak, headed straight to dealership, at which a massive amount of fluid began pouring out of vehicle. . In exact same area as original issue from 8/31/24.

My vehicle is shutting off while driving. It randomly shuts off and I see there are other recalls associated with this issue for a different year but same vehicle/model. I am being quoted well over $2,000 in repairs. This vehicle only has 130,000 miles on it.

The contact was helping her friend who owns a 2010 Volkswagen Routan. The contact stated while driving at approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the check engine and stability control warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was a recurring failure. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer and was informed that the vehicle was built by another manufacturer. The contact was then referred to another dealer. The contact was advised by the 2nd dealer that the vehicle should be taken back to the first dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 11v151000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Battery failure due to parasitic draw from ignition iod fuse ( j13fuse) reads 0. 9 draw and m11 fuse ( hvac system) reads 0. 6 draw. First occurrence 2/10/24 and second occurrence 2/11/24. Informed auto repair shop on 2/12/24 and goes in for diagnostic 2/15/24. Abs control module failure( intermittent ) egr valve replacement (8/9/24 due to overheating but no warning lights due to overheating was displayed which is strange) speed control sensor was replaced as well 8/9/24 but still has problems getting stuck or not reading the right speed . Consumes fuel faster than normal as well . Getting about 9 miles to the gallon.
At first it starts off the vehicle will just shut off while you are driving which is very dangerous I have read many people complaining about this it needs to be recalled then the brakes go and then the transmission seal I have done all the maintenance up keep on my vehicle there is no reason for the vehicle did you shut off the way it keeps shutting off and dying for no reason the battery keeps dying by the next morning when nothing is left on in the vehicle it has caused me a great deal of grief and it is very scary when you have children in the car and your vehicle just shuts off on the freeway when everything is electric guess what no breaks.
The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Routan. The contact received notification of the NHTSA campaign number: 15v194000 (electrical system) however, the parts to do the recall repair were not yet available. The contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle, the engine failed to turnover. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch failed and needed to be replaced; however, the dealer confirmed that parts were not available for the recall repair. The vehicle had not yet been repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
All electrical gauges randomly go on and off, there is a continuous beeping to go along with it, the windshield wipers will go on and off. It seems to happen more in the summer or if it’s raining. It will occasionally stall while doing this, especially in a stationary position (like at a drive through).
While driving the vehicle flashed several of the dashboard waring lights, starting dinging and then stopped, started flashing and dinging again then the vehicle completely turned off. I was able to pull over out of traffic but the vehicle would not restart. None of the interior lights would come one and the emergency lights would not come on. I could not unlock any of the doors. The battery has been replaced with in the last year and is working correctly.
Nhtsa recall 14v396 is probably the best correction to this issue. My van has shut off mid-driving while my children are in the car with me. It is so dangerous in the road. I can't move the steering wheel. Mechanics can't seem to diagnose the problem because the van doesn't give any computer codes when it would shut down. There are similar complaints and I wonder how Volkswagen knows of this issue and has failed to inform the owners of these vehicles. Chrysler had a similar issue and did a recall. I hope Volkswagen would acknowledge this issue.
The contact owns a 2013 Volkswagen Routan. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would suddenly shut off. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle operated normally. During the failure, no warning lights were illuminated. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was contacted regarding the failure, but no assistance was offered. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 130,000.

The key for the key switch is loose and can fall out in any position. Can come out in the off ; start; run; all positions. The van falls within the right timeline for the key switch replacement recall; but I am told it does not have the right VIN #. Can you explain to me why I can not get my defected switch replaced and others can? my VIN number does not determine if the switch is bad?.
The tipm is not working and while driving the headlights turn off. This is very unsafe and impairs the driver.
The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Routan. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the headlights failed to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the totally integrated power module (tipm) needed to be replaced; however, the replacement part was no longer manufactured. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 117,000.
The car shuts off while driving which is scary. Requires restarting while in traffic. There was a recall in past and the fix clearly did not work. This incident has occurred multiple times.
The contact's son owns a 2010 Volkswagen Routan. The contact stated that the vehicle would intermittently fail to start after multiple attempts; several waring lights would appear on the instrument panel. The contact initially called the dealer and was informed that they no longer work on that model vehicle. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where they were unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed her that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
While driving the car the car shut off causing an issue with the steering and brakes. This is the second time this has happened. In trying to duplicate the issue, with the car in park and running we were able to duplicate it by wiggling the key fob while it is in the switch. We were able to do this 3x. We search out a recall notice for our year, make and model related to this issue. When we called our vw dealer we were informed that our vehicle does not have any open recalls. We contacted vw customer service and we were told the same. Our particular VIN was built in the middle of recalls related to this exact issue and no previous repairs were done. The customer service rep could not see a reason why ours is not covered but that they go strictly by the VIN. Our vehicle was built 03/2010 and the recall numbers we are reading are 15v194000 and 11v151000. We are experiencing the same issue and our vehicle was built within the recall period so I want to understand why ours is not part of the recall for this issue.
We bought the 2010 Volkswagen routtan on July 2021, the engine shutts off suddenly. We took it to the dealer and no one knows what the problem is. I was checking the value of the car and found a safety recall in June 2011 and another recall on 04/01/2015 we don't know if they took the vehicle to fix the problem. There has been 2 safety recalls NHTSA campaing 15v194000 on April 2015 and the one on March 2011 NHTSA campaing 11v151000 both has to do with the electrical system:ignition:switch.
Several times in the last month the car has stopped running without warning. It just shuts off. This has happened in our subdivision travelling at 20mph and most recently on the highway travelling 65mph. The power steering, brakes, everything go dead when the car just turns off and this could cause a serious accident.
Car has issues starting as if fuel pump isnt coming on. . . Also vehicle shut down in middle of driving down highway would not restart.
The vehicle is shutting off while driving.
The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Routan. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 15v194000 (electrical system) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The dealer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
After getting wires regrounded at the mechanic, the car continues to malfunction. The wiper blades turn on, the entire dash blinks, the seat moves back and forth, resetting repeatedly. If seat is disconnected for safety, the seatbelt does not register as secured. Eventually doors stop functioning, have completely lost lock function, tried replacing battery and sending to mechanic specialist. Still the car malfunctions at random.
Car shuts off while driving, ignition key fob issue recall. Tipm system recall.
The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Routan. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph the vehicle suddenly stalled. The contact lost power steering and brake functionality. The contact stated that numerous warning lights were illuminated and blinking. The contact was attempting to maintain lane when the vehicle engine restarted and the contact pulled off the road safely. The contact turned off the vehicle and then restarted it and all functions had returned. The contact drove the vehicle to a dealer, and the dealer did not diagnose or repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 11v151000 (electrical system). The contact stated that the failure was a recurring issue. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 188,000.
This has happened multiple times. The ignition will cut off which make the car engine quit running. Loss of braking, steering, power has left me in the middle of intersections being nearly avoided being ran into. When this happens all the warning lights come on and the engine turns off. The exact problem vw recall number 28h1 is affecting my vehicle.
Car is stalling out while driving with no warning. Doesn't matter the rate of speed I'm going it just cuts out. Can't turn steering wheel. No codes pop up. No mechanics can pinpoint issue. I have seen quite a few thousand people complaining of the same issue and reported it to vw as well as NHTSA and no one will do a recall. Chrysler did a recall for this same issue but not vw. This is a safety issue for not only the owner but other drivers on the road. If I get into an accident or cause one I will be suing NHTSA as well as vw for no recall being done. I have printed out over 100 pages of complaints from others for evidence of complaints. I have already entered the class action lawsuit with others having the same issue. Recall the issue or face lawsuits.
My vehicle shows no pending recalls, but ignition switch still malfunctioning whenever it is bumped or a lanyard is on the key. Brakes malfunction, car seat moves, windshield wipers move, car seems to think it is resetting as original recall states is a problem.
The vehicle turned off in the drive gear. I lost steering, breaking and control of vehicle.
The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Routan. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would shut off without warning. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 15v194000 (electrical system) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not taken to a local dealer to be inspected. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 124,000.
Referenced to recall nhsta id no:11v-151 same issue happens on newer models, the car key ignition switch does not secure the key and that causes the car shut-down in tje middle of highway or road intermittently! ?t does not give any dashboard warning and no codes! all the lights are being gone and even ac shuts off! when ? push the key the lights come back on and the car can be turned on again. Similiar problems are poster on youtube: https://youtu. Be/zesy-mnvpzs.
Hi - I have a 2010 vw Volkswagen that has an issue with headlights intermittently working, which is very hazardous and also the windshield wipers randomly turn on and the car was intermittently starting (now won’t start at all since 7/18/2021) among other things. Car appears to not be starting due to fuel relay with tipm. The intermittent headlights is very dangerous but corrects itself in a few days so mechanics haven’t been able to figure it out. This car is related to the several Chrysler models from 2010-2014 (it states Chrysler on various parts of my vw Routan) that had a recall for issues with the tipm box, which appears to be the issue with my vehicle. As far as I can tell the same recall was not issued for the Routan. Why? I’ve found many similar descriptions of Routan owners that have had the same issues I have and these go back to the tipm. Will there be a recall? there is one of many links detailing people with the same issues/concerns. . Read more...
While driving along my vehicle will shut completely off. This happens especially on bumpy roads. Sometime the vehicle will shut off right after starting the engine. The only way I can duplicate the problem is to turn the key completely off and restart the vehicle. This problem is very similar to the recall with the 2010 Volkswagens.
