My 2011 vw Routan completely lost power on the freeway while driving in heavy traffic. The steering completely locked up (not lost power steering), locked up and all components died while moving. It took two people to break the steering wheel loose so that the van could be pushed out of the road by tdot. We had the van towed and once removed from the truck it started and ran like normal. Our 3 kids were also in the van which makes the situation extremely hazardous. Previous to this, we paid $1,500 to the vw dealer to replace the tipm unit because the van wouldn’t start on many occasions. The dealer stated that he knew Chrysler had issued a recall on their vehicles with these same issues but vw hadn’t taken any action. Other info… no dash lights are/were on. Dealer can’t seem to reproduce the issue. Tdot officer said he’d never seen a vehicle that locked the steering while the car was in motion. This was worse than it loosing all power.

The contact owned a 2010 Volkswagen Routan. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked in the driveway, the vehicle independently caught on fire. There was no crash nor injury due to the fire. The air bags did not deploy. The fire department was contacted and was able to extinguish the fire. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not towed. The contact had an independent mechanic inspect the vehicle and deemed the vehicle as a total loss. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.

The tipm is failing which is a common issue with the vehicle make/model. My particular vehicle was not covered under any recalls, however, I have the same tell tale tipm failure issues as all of the cars that were part of the recall. My lights intermittently work which causes a safety hazard. They will either not turn at all, will turn on and start flashing, or will appear to be working as normal until I'm driving and then they will flash off intermittently. This puts anyone in my car as well as oncoming traffic at risk when my lights malfunction at night. The airbag warning indicator light also flashes off and on as well making me think that it may be failing whenever the tipm is not functioning properly. The door locks and windows have also locked/unlocked and opened/closed at random (even when the vehicle is off and has been parked with the power off for hours). I spoke with the mechanic about all of these issues and he verified that it was likely a failing tipm and that it is a well-known issue with the Routan. My vehicle is available for inspection any time. Volkswagen and Chrysler know that this is a common issue and yet they have put their customers in danger by not recalling all of the affected vehicles. I am not sure what date to put as the date of incident as this has been ongoing since I have owned the vehicle. I put the current date (as it happened just today) and mileage, however, please understand that this has been an ongoing issue for years and Volkswagen has failed to include my vehicle in any recalls even though this is a well-known issue.
When driving for about 25 and then getting to a stop light. As I slow down and start to come to a stop the car shakes very roughly and turns right off. The first time this happened was 3 days after getting car from carmax. It had not happened again until this week.
This is 2011 vw Routan. When the mileage reached exactly 100k both sliding doors shuts. When I put it on manual control button overhead it’s not working in both doors. It’s parked when this happens.
Thank god I was not going fast. Vehicle shut down completely while driving. Was able to put in park and was able to start it back up. Apparently, the Routan is manufactured by crysler and this issue also happens with the 09 town and countries as well.

My vehicle cuts off within 5 minutes after driving at speeds between 20 to 40mph (usually required in neighborhoods and school zones). Steering wheel locks up and vehicle power cuts completely off. No warning or lights indicating the shut off!.
The battery started dying randomly several months ago. I have called multiple dealerships and had diagnostics ran twice on the car. Initially I was told there is no draw on the battery. Then it was discovered that the tipm module needs to be replaced. I then started researching this problem with this vehicle only to find multiple forums full of people having the same exact issue or worse! as in, their car stalls on the highway randomly while driving!! someone could die! this module fails and in my case causes the fuel pump to continue running even when the car is off which completely drains the battery overnight! Chrysler (same manufacturer of this tipm) already lost a class action lawsuit and recalled this tipm but the Volkswagens affected by this same issue were not included leaving those of us now experiencing the same problem in a scary position because we can’t afford to get this fixed as it is very expensive let alone get a new car! it baffles me how well known it is that this part is the same part that’s been recalled but it doesn’t apply to this vehicle. On top of that, I called 3 Chrysler dealerships to explain the problem and was told they don’t work on this vehicle! this is unacceptable! I don’t know how the NHTSA has not done something about this! it seems several class action lawsuits need to filed! hopefully before someone loses their life!.

The 2010 Volkswagen Routan will randomly shutoff. The vehicle has shutoff with and without auto-start and while parked and while in gear moving. There is no indication of a problem. During a failure, the keyfob is in the on position and the drivers electrical display goes blank with no indicators. To restart, the keyfob is rotated back to the off position and then to start. The vehicle will operate normally until the next failure which could be minutes, hours, days.
Van has stalled while driving on multiple occasions. Power steering is lost. Vehicle will then start right back up. This is extremely dangerous for a minivan used to transport multiple children. No codes or faults are recorded.
The vehicle was in a parking lot and would not start after repeated tries. It would start as normal and immediately shut off. Had to take it to the dealership who advised the tipm is faulty. Faulty tipms in these vehicle with 55k-70k mileage seems to be a very common problem. There are many shops who will rebuilt these tipms as its a very known issue. This is also a serious problem as it would shut off the vehicle and how start, leaving passengers stranded.

Faulty tipm module. Engine will crank just fine, but has big trouble starting. Once it runs all is good. It's a known issue for the part. Other oems recalled the item (Chrysler town & country / Dodge grand caravan).
Five times in the past 6 months the power in the van basically turns off. The steering becomes next to impossible and the brakes become extremely tight to the point you can't even use them. It is terrifying to have zero control over your car considering I have 4 children. It has happened while I was going only 30mph and also when I was going 45 mph. It happens when I'm going straight and has also happened while turning. Since the latest issue I refuse to drive anywhere that I can't take back roads to.
The whole electrical system has gone out while driving in limestone county alabama. Keys don't start it none of automatic doors will open.
Dash flashing, hard start after putting in a new fuse box and after flash from the dealer.
This vehicle is basically a Chrysler/Dodge with vw branding, and one of the keys is even a Dodge key. It has the same issue with the tipm and fuel relay module that was recalled on the 2011 Chrysler and Dodge vans. See fuel pump relay recall NHTSA 14v-530. I'm asking that it also be recalled for the 2011 vw Routan since it's very dangerous that my car could stop at any moment. I recently purchased my van from a used car dealer in new jersey who neglected to even inform me that this was a known issue even though I informed them that I'd be driving the car cross country. When I was in georgia the car started cranking, but wouldn't start and it has had this same intermittent issue since I arrived in FL. It took a while for us to figure out what was even wrong with it because when the auto shop ran a diagnostic, no codes were returned. However, when they finally got the issue to occur again, they found that tapping on the fuel relay module in the tipm would allow the car to start. They advised to take it to Chrysler because it's actually a Chrysler van under the hood. When I called Chrysler, they turned me away because the VIN is for a vw. When I called vw, they said no recall existed for this van even though it's the same issue. So, I'm asking that a recall also be done on 2011 vw Routan's since they are experiencing the exact same dangerous issue called out in the Chrysler recall. Lastly, I experienced this issue both while the car was stationary and while it was on the highway. ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly #vpic#.

When car is running, either in park or drive, the engine cuts out. We must wait 30 sec to restart. It will then restart. This action happend both when the car is in park and drive. The action happened once in our driveway and once coming out of a carry out driveway.
Hard start caused by fuel pump not engaging. Engine shutdown at stoplights. Issue with fuel pump relay. Fuel pump relay is fully integrated and is costly to replace. Volkswagen does not support the vehicle and chrylstler who made the vehicle does not have the firmware to correct the issue.
Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Volkswagen Routan. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and resume normal driving. The contact initially contacted the Volkswagen manufacturer by phone and was referred to the Dodge manufacturer for assistance. When the contact reached out the Dodge manufacturer and she was referred to a local Dodge dealer for assistance. The contact took the vehicle to tanner motors(620 w w washington st, brainerd, mn 56401) where the vehicle was test driven and the contact was informed that the issue could possibly be linked to a defective win module, the contact was given an estimate for the repair. The vehicle had yet to be serviced. The failure mileage was approximately 99,000. The VIN number was unavailable. Jo.
The vehicle often has difficulty starting and will occasionally shut off while driving. The problem seems similar to the defect described in safety recall 28h1 which only covers year models 2009-2010. I don't remember exactly when the issue started, but it was within the last year, and the problem has become much worse to the point failure while operating occurs much more regularly. Fortunately, I've been able to restart and continue driving so far, but it will shut off when I'm idling, accelerating, or at driving speed.
My 2011 ve toutan minivan will randomly cut off while I'm driving down the road. There are times when it will not start at all. Vw Routans are known for having ignition and tipm issues but vw will not take responsibility and fix the issues.
The electric rear sliding door has become stuck shut and no power goes to the door. The key becomes stuck and the ignition and are unable to remove it. There have been recalls for the same make and model with these issues, but there are no recalls for these issues tied to our VIN.
While driving my 2011 vw Routan at 45 mph speed suddenly the speed dropped down to 20 mph on a busy road and eventually stopped. Luckily I was able to pull my vehicle over to a local road. After showing the vehicle to dealer the problem was identified as timp issue and repair would cost $1500. Luckily it wasn't a freeway with 65 mph road, I couldn't think of this thing happens on such road with kids inside the car. I have came across Chrysler got same sort of issues and they recalled such vehicles. Vw Routan is also same built as Chrysler town and county and vw didn't offer any recalls for these issues.
While driving car it turns off. Has to be restarted. Faulty ingnition switch. Noticed a past recall.
Drivers side sliding door will not open. I've tried all kinds of ways to open it and it will not budge. Also, when driving, car shut off with no warning.
There are two issues that keep occurring that may or may not be related. First, sometimes when I start the vehicle every single light on the dash will be lit up, the wipers will be on, the radio won't work, and none of the gauges will be working. I have to use my gps just to know what my speed is since the spedometer doesn't work. I also can't turn on my defrost when this happens so I'm stuck sitting in the parking lot waiting. Eventually it will randomly switch back to normal and then everything works. My second issue is that I will lose all power while driving. This happened in a roundabout once which almost caused a crash! I lose ignition, power steering, everything. I have to get to the side of the road, put it in park, and turn the ignition off and back on again. One of these days this is going to cause a crash and then I will be suing Volkswagen when my babies get injured because of this. From the looks of the other complaints this is happening to a lot of these vans!.
I take my vw Routan to finish the recall . Becaused my door open when I was driving from georgia to florida with my 2 daughter in the back seat and driver rear slide door open at 70 miles. . Vw dealer talk me no have the parts but they fixed and when I take to different dealer they talk me they ready did the recall and replaced the harness. . Thursday my wife driving and has the same problem door open when she driving. . Take the Mini van to shop and they talk me dealer never did the recall. . . I alway have the Mini van and no one touch dear before. . .
It turns on all the lights on the dashboard saying it needs auto assist service there is no problem with it the dealer cannot take care of it because they don't take care of Volkswagen Routan no more.
Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Volkswagen Routan. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, without warning the vehicle lost motive power and decelerated to 25 mph and then the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after approximately 30 minutes. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle experienced intermittent starting failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code. The vehicle was not repaired. A local dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 147000. Ah.
The vehicle has shut off at random times, often in traffic making it very dangerous for my family. Chrysler (who actually made this vehicle) has issued a recall for this particular issue but vw will not honor it.
The engine stalls as the vehicle is driven and it locks the steering wheel. This happens while car in motion, noticed a previous recall for this issues however it seems to be happening again and I don't think my VIN was included in recall.
Tipm box needs to be replaced, vw dealership says it is faulty and has glitches that need to be repaired but it exceeds my warranty. I purchased this van 3 weeks ago and the radio will go out or stay on, the wipers will come on by themselves and the tire pressure light will come on.
My wife was driving with 2 children on the highway at 70 mph while the engine dies due to the fuel pump stopping to work due to a tipm fuel pump relay failure. Chrysler and Dodge did the right thing, step up vw.
