Volkswagen Routan owners have reported 2 problems related to software (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Volkswagen Routan based on all problems reported for the Routan.
Tipm needs a recall. Van is difficult to start and sometimes shuts off while you're driving. Dealership will tell you it's the fuel pump and change you $1100 to fix it only for the problem to persist even after the costly repair has been made. Chrysler has recalled the tipm (this is a Chrysler/mopar part) but because the tipm requires the vw firmware, Volkswagen is refusing to issue a recall. The first time this happened to me, Volkswagen tools me it was a software upgrade but now the issue is happening again. I've almost crashed on multiple occasions because the van has shut off while the van was in motion. It is not the fuel pump.

We have noticed that the new car has being problem shifting gears and have been taking it to the shop several times just to be told that they do not see any problems. May 2013 we have received a recall mentioning harsh 1-3 up shifts and error in the torque management software, which will apply more pressure to the clutch. We took it in and were told they have not received the recall letter yet. At some point they agreed to update the software, however that made the problem worse. The car is not moving and when we give more gas it will accelerate like crazy now as added bonus reverse is not working properly. . Manufacture does not seem to take us seriously or accepting responsibilities.
