1 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 11/24/2020

The vehicle started sputtering check engine light came on. Took it to Volkswagen and they told me to put gas treatment in see if that fixes problem. It seemed to help a bit for a week but check engine light still on. Then one morning I got up and tired to start car it hesitated to start almost died and started. I was in the process of taking it to Volkswagen again and the vehicle died while I was driving. Thank god I was just down the road from my house. It could have been very dangerous if it died on highway. One of the recalls on this model is describing what happened to my vehicle. But when I look it up the score tells me the recalls were fixed. Which I know this is not true. My mother tried to get Volkswagen to fix the airbag recall they just dismissed her saying your vehicle is not one on recall. Now they want me to pay to fix vehicle this is very expensive and unacceptable! not a happy customer.

2 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 10/12/2020

The vehicle began to fail while parked, the check engine and epc lights came on. It began to fail as if it had no strength. On December 23, the dealer was taken for the third time due to the same problem, the first time they told us that it was gasoline (puma) that that brand could not be used, they changed the brand to shell and continued with the problem. Before this happened, the deler made us a recall of something and after this it was that the failures began. The bus only has 3,500 miles. The last thing they told us that what is damaged is the evaporator today is December 30 and they have not returned the vehicle to me. The passenger side of the suspension sounds when you get a bump or a hole in the road and tell us that it is normal in the vehicle.

5 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 12/16/2019

I purchased the car brand new iat the end of 2018. At the end of 2019 the car now needs new brakes and has less than 19,000 miles. The car shakes when you break. The dealership stated usually brakes and rotors last 30,000 and cited "common causes" for needing new breaks. The dealership stated they would cover labor at good will to replace brakes and rotors and then came back that would cover 60% and provided me 3 different amounts for a total. Additionally, in December 2019, the check engine light came on after driving through a dangerous intersection turning left the car started to stutter and was shaking, after they reviewed it, they stated that the car had "misfired" and not all 4 engines started at the same time, only 3 of the engines did. I am requesting that the car be reviewed for compliance and safety regarding the brakes and engine. Additionally, I am requesting that Volkswagen cover the cost and labor of replacing brakes and rotors.

6 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 09/03/2019

I leased my 2019 Tiguan in March 2019. Shortly after (~1,500 miles), I experience my 1st acceleration failure. While attempting to turn left with oncoming traffic (with my 4 year old in the back seat), my car would not accelerate although my foot was pressing the gas pedal to the floor. After multiple seconds and multiple attempts to accelerate forward, I put the vehicle in park, turned it off, turned it back on, put in drive, and was able to complete the turn. Thankfully the vehicles coming towards me were paying attention and halted, or it would've resulted in a collision. This failure happened 3 more times shortly after, 1 of the them occurring when my husband was driving. While getting my vehicle in for service, 1 of the vw employees mentioned they receive calls regarding this same failure every week, sometimes every day. A 2nd vw employee mentioned they have never received a call on this failure for my vehicle. ????. The dealership performed a 26m1 software upgrade that should fix the problem. concerned for not only the safety of my family, but the safety of the drivers around me, I filed a claim with vw corporate and asked to be removed from my lease due to the failures almost resulting in multiple car accidents. They refused to allow me to get out of the lease as my experienced failures do not warrant the ability to be removed from the vehicle. shortly after the software upgrade, my check engine light came on and I've experienced the same failure 3 more times (1 of them while attempting to reverse). Here we are again I have a service appointment scheduled for 09/10 and opened my vw corporate claim back up.

7 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 05/29/2019

Vehicle engine suddenly began idling roughly while stopped at city street intersection. While driving the engine still felt rough and would occasionally stop running. After getting it to a vw service mechanic it received the following diagnostic - "check engine light: found camshaft spool valve has come apart. Found cam shaft bearing bracket oil screen damaged. " at 81,000 miles this car should not exhibit such problems. There appears to be a recall on 2015 vw Tiguan engines related to the same part, cam shaft. I reached out to vw for any info about this, and have not received any response.

Failure Date: 03/23/2019

On multiple occasions, subject vehicle displayed check engine light and epc light at random intervals, causing car to unexpectedly be limited to 4,000 rpm and unable to accelerate past 40mph. As a result, this put driver in extremely unsafe situations and endangered safety of passengers and fellow drivers, particularly on highway. First encountered at 34,000 miles on odometer. Persisted through 41,000 miles. Seconds before error is encountered, vehicle would run rough and undergo rough shifts. In addition, vehicle also suffered with sluggish acceleration from stop. 9 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 11/17/2018

I was driving my Tiguan when it stalled out at the end of the street. I was able to turn the car off and then on again and it started just fine. I was able to drive my car up the street when it started jerking, sputtering, and lurching, like it did not want to go forward. The check engine light came on at this time. I was able to drive about 1000 feet to the nearest gas station. The check engine light remained on. We started the car again this morning, and it did the same thing: lurching, jerking, and sputtering. It was able to drive about 500 feet. Again, the check engine light is still on.

10 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 10/30/2018

My Volkswagen Tiguan's check engine light turned on and the dealership said that the tension on the timing chain is outside safe parameters and can cause the engine to fail. My Tiguan is only a 2014 and only has about 80,000 miles. My understanding is that timing chains are supposed to last the life of the vehicle and it's only 4 years old. This seems to me to be a factory defect.

11 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 08/29/2018

The vehicle has severe acceleration problem, with uneven and unpredictable acceleration when starting the vehicle from a stop. The problem developed after the vehicle was 2 weeks old. The vehicle was taken into the dealership after the check engine light turned on. The dealership stated it was an issue in the secondary air system, but they were not sure what and could not fix it at that time. The check engine light then turned off. The vehicle was taken in to two subsequent dealerships with the same issue, but the dealership stated the car was reporting no problem, and the check engine light was not turning on. A third dealership found a faulty valve in the secondary air system, despite the car reporting no issues and the check engine light failing to be lit. Despite the replacement of the part, the vehicle still has unpredictable and unacceptable acceleration, which poses a severe safety risk when pulling out into traffic. When I expect the vehicle to accelerate, it does so at an extremely tepid pace, causing traffic to need to slow rapidly behind the vehicle. Other time it begins to accelerate normally, and then stalls in acceleration. This again poses a safety risk to the driver and surrounding traffic.

18 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 08/26/2015

When you are attempting to stop the car, the car stops completely. Everything shuts down. Need to place the car in park and restart car. The car restarts. However, the shutdown can happen more than once during the same trip each time the car stops. The check engine light comes on and then will go off. This started happening in Aug 2015 @ 27000 miles. I have taken the car to the dealer 3 times. They run diagnostics and clear fault if the light is on at the time. The dealer replaced the boost pressure sensor in June 2016 but the problem has started again. Since the light goes on and off, it is hard to know if there is a serious problem. So far it has stalled on side roads or parking lots. If this should happen on the highway, it would cause a serious accident. In 2014, the car was part of a fuel pump recall.

19 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan

20 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 12/27/2014

We recently (12-23-2014) brought the car in for the August 11th 2014 recall of the Tiguan ecm/air bubble issue related to the fuel pump in the cars. Our car was not experiencing any issues relating to the recall and described, but due to potential issues decided to bring it in to have it applied anyways. Upon leaving the dealership, the car was accelerating funny, and we noticed gas mileage had gone down. Due to ecm being reflashed as a part of the recall, we chalked it up as the computer needing to re-"learn" driving habits, shift points, etc. . About 25 miles later we were on the way home from an event about a few miles from home. We were on a very busy 6 lane highway when the car lost all engine power. It put us in an extremely dangerous position, 4 adults in a car on a busy 6 lane highway. We managed to coast over to the shoulder and to an offramp. The car restarted and the epc and check engine lights came on. The car was able to run, but only in limp mode, enough to get us the final couple miles home. Took the car to the dealership the following Monday. Issue was a failed high pressure fuel pump, needs to be replaced. It apparently is a very common part to fail, and at low mileage on cars, in any condition. It failed after the "new car warranty" but was replaced under the extended warranty provided by vw. Due to it's high failure rate at low vehicle mileage, and the impact it can have on safety, the fuel pump recall from August 11th should be expanded to cover the fuel pump replacement and extend the warranty of the part.

21 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 08/07/2014

The check engine light came on. Took the vehicle to dealer and the diagnose came misfire from clyander 2. They told me it was a carbon built up on the valves and it's not covered under power train warranty.

22 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan

The contact owns a 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan. While driving various speeds, the vehicle jerked forward, stalled, and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was serviced per NHTSA campaign number: 14v441000 (fuel system, gasoline), but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the central wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred two additional times. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but the diagnosis was unknown. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 4,997.

23 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 04/15/2014

When I got into my 2014 Tiguan the check engine light was on. Since the car is only 5 months old I didn't give it much thought and figured it was something simple. About 10 minutes into my drive while I was slowing for a red light the car completely turned off. I restarted it and it was fine the rest of the drive. I brought it to the dealership the next day and was given a loaner. I was told they are going to replace the engine harness. I haven't gotten it back yet so not sure if that fixed the issue.

24 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 04/15/2014

On April 15, 2014, I was at a gas station waiting to pull into an available pump with the car in drive. The car's engine suddenly shut off completely and the battery light signaled. I was able to put the car in park, turn the key to the off position, and restart the engine. As soon as I restarted the engine, the check engine symbol was illuminated. I drove home after filling up on gas. The following morning, April 16, 2014, I called open road Volkswagen of manhattan and scheduled a service appointment for Monday, April 21, 2014. For the remainder of that week, until Sunday, the car did not shut off and the check engine light was illuminated the majority of the time. There were times when I would drive and the check engine light would not be illuminated. On Sunday, April 20, 2014, I was driving on the ramp to get on the fdr drive from the brooklyn bridge, going approximately 20-40 mph, and the engine shut off completely. In the middle of highway traffic, I was forced to place the car in park, turn on my hazard lights, turn the key to the off position, and restart the engine. During the course of driving to an emergency shoulder, as this was an extremely dangerous situation, the car's engine once again turned off completely while I was driving. After making it to an emergency shoulder area, I contacted Volkswagen roadside assistance and the car was eventually towed. Today, April 21, 2014, I spoke with a service representative at open road Volkswagen of manhattan and was told that the check engine symbol of the vehicle is not on (as I mentioned earlier, sometimes it was on for me and sometimes not) and that the car did not have an issue when driven around the block. Therefore, the service representative is going to take the car for an extended period to see if the issue reproduces. Of course, this is an incredibly dangerous issue and should be fixed.

25 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 10/28/2013

My first issue with a check engine light came on 1 month into my 3+ year lease with under 1,000 miles on the car. I was told it was fine to drive, as they couldn't fit me in for service with a loaner for 2 wks!! the light eventually went off in 2 days without an issue. However, it happened again at 5k miles. The check engine light came on and I proceeded to drive around the corner from my home. I stopped at a stop sign, accelerated slightly and the car died. The car had a check engine (yellow light on) and a red light. I had little to no control over the steering either. I pulled over, restarted the car and turned around. I proceeded at a rate of 5 to 10 miles per hour with my hazards lights on for the mile ride back to my house. I stopped at a 4 way stop sign and accelerated slightly and the car died again. I was almost hit by oncoming traffic. I was able to drive less than a mile to my home. The car had to be flat bedded as it would not shift into neutral. The car is at vw and I am awaiting more info. . . With no loaner.

26 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 10/08/2013

Driving on the hwy ,check engine light came on and epc light ,engine starts to run very rough, took it to the dealer ,they said it is a coil, replaced it,a week later the same thing happened again on the hwy doing 70 with family ,took it to the dealer, they said all the other 3 coils went bad at the same time!!!!!! 27 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 07/10/2013

Taking off after getting fuel car start to idle rough whens slowing down. Drove directly to dealership less than a mile where the car barely made it into the service area and check engine light came on. Timing chain broke and blew engine. Vehicle has been perfectly maintained by dealer. It appears to be a recurring problem based on internet research. Fortunately, I was not driving on the interstate as normal at that time of day.

28 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 06/25/2013

I started up the car and multiple dash warnings then went off. The epc light, check engine light and the head lamps warnings all turned on. I then popped the hood and opened up the fuse box to make sure the fuses were seated correctly. Upon checking the fuses I noticed the box itself was melted and scorched meaning there had been fire at some point under the hood. I then took my Volkswagen to the closest vw dealership service station. It cost $400 (michigan) to replace the fuse box, also leaving me questioning if this will happen again. After some investigation online I found that this is not rare. The vw dealership that did the repair stated that this was the 8th one he himself has done. Hopefully this does not happen again. Lights randomly going out is a safety hazard, and could lead to car accidents, injurys, and fatalities.

29 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 01/23/2013

Over the last three months: first-check engine and epc lights on and engine performance low. Second-fuel rail/system pressure too low. Third-battery light came on and vehicle did not have normal power (battery brand new oct12). Fourth-headlights went out mulitple time over a two week period (bulbs brand new apr13). Car is with vw now for melted fuse and melted fuse box.

30 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 12/28/2012

2012 Tiguan (~18,000 miles) has stalled at low mph four times. The check engine light came on one occasion but not the others. At each time the vehicle would restart after putting it in park. Took it in to dealership and they could not find anything wrong, told me to make note of temp, mileage, gas level if it happened again. Thankfully this only happened when other cars were not near enough to cause harm.

31 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 03/31/2012

I went to take my child to gymnastics in the morning. When I turned on to the street that the gym is off of, my check engine light came on. Less then 10th of a mile later I parked. We were early so I called the local vw dealer to schedule an appointment to have this checked out and get in a little early for my scheduled maintenance. We then got out of the car and entered the gym. Within 10 minutes of being inside the gym, a man came in the building and started asking who's SUV was outside because it smoking. I ran out side to see my vehicle engulfed in flames. The fire department had to come to put out the fire. Its completely destroyed.

32 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 10/10/2011

I own a 2009 vw Tiguan. The car burst into flames this morning after the check engine light went on while my pregnant wife was driving the car this morning. The car has been maintained by vw and had roughly 22,000 miles on it. I bought the car from evanston autobarn vw in 2010 and serviced it at fletcher jones vw of chicago. I filed an insurance claim this morning and contacted both vw dealerships and your 24 hour help line. Vw has been zero help to us. Everyone said to call my insurance company. This is not an insurance issue. There was no collision. This car simply burst into flames while being driven. Chicago police department and fire department was involved and the report # is ht535806.
