2 Water Pump problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 10/07/2019

Driving at 42-45 mph on a 0% slope. Car initially maintaining about 1,300 rpm. Without changing speed, pressure on the accelerator, or incline of the road, transmission would shift down by 3-4 gears resulting in a jump in the rpm up to about 3,200. Vehicle would cycle through the down shifting and the jump in rpm, and then shifting back up to lower the rpm back to normal. Within 1. 2 miles, car cycled through this three times, and that was what I could capture on video! it continued for 15-20 miles before I could get it to a Volkswagen dealership. Finally, the engine temperature gauge shot up and sat about maximum value for about 3 seconds and then fell back down to dead center (normal operating temp). At that point, I was already on my way to vw to drop it off. About 1 mile from the dealership, I got the "check coolant! see owner's manual. " alert on my dash even though the temp gauge was normal at that time. Finally got to vw and was told the transmission thing was normal ("they like to hunt a lot"). I don't believe that for a second. After 18,000 miles, I would not all of the sudden realize the transmission doing that. Shifting by one or two gears is probably normal for a dsg, and I'm sure that has been happening all along - but it is so small that I don't notice the change. When a car shift down by 4 gears within 1-2 seconds and the car lunges forward as the rpm shoot up to maintain the speed, that is something that isn't normal. Currently vehicle is still in the shop. Will likely need a new water pump, coolant reservoir, wire harness (due to coolant migration). They also think there may be transmission fluid inside the coolant reservoir, but are still trying to tell me that the shifting problem is "normal". . . I'm tired of dealing with Volkswagen and their shifty service department and procedures and can't wait to get rid of this car.

3 Water Pump problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 09/04/2019

Background: 2015 (70,733 mi), engine light went on & I brought it to vwhartford. They found fault for system to lean found rear main sela is leaking oil which is causing fuel trim faults. Oil cap is leaking oil & the upper time chain cover is leaking oil but the main oil leak is coming from the rear seal. They removed the trans & replaced the main seal & oil cap ($877). In 2016 (94,999 mi), car failed emissions due to intake manifold. Vw replaced this and it was covered under warranty. Suggestion - to get a carbon cleaning for the valves due to build up ($290). June '18 (118,239 mi): my coolant light went on. Vw said my coolant was not low - water pump was leaking. They resealed valve cover & upper timing chain due to oil leaks. They r and r valve cover cleaning & resealed, installed upper timing chain seals and side of engine block of oil & installed new water pump. I asked if this was covered under the warranty or previous work & was told no. I asked if this would prolong the longevity & was told yes ($1800). 8/19/19 (133,449 mi): engine light was on - could not look at for a couple days, but ok to drive as long as the engine light was not blinking. Result: system lean at idle, breather is leaking air causing hesitation. They installed new breather. Asked if it was covered they said no. Asked if it would improve the longevity of my car, I was told yes ($480). Issue 9/4/engine light went on. This was after traveling for labor day (360 miles). On main st. In whart, the car started to shake & bounce at 2 stop lights. Went 2 blocks home. Towed it - was told timing chain went & it's not covered under the tc recall. Quote - used engine $6500+. Told it was worthless & not worth fixing ($125 for diag) towed the car to another place - they fixed it for less than $3400. I have told vw and vwhart that there is something wrong with this make/model, but I am ignored.

4 Water Pump problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 08/14/2019

Have had 3 vw water pump failures within the past 11 months. The original water pump failed in September 2018; the replacement failed in June 2019; and another replacement failed in August 2019. All installed at aaa approved mechanic shops. Coolant would run low and when alerted to this, it could be observed flowing onto the ground while the vehicle engine was running and the car in motion.

5 Water Pump problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 03/25/2019

The timing chain & timing chain tensioner malfunctioning prior to 93,000 miles, below the projected owners manual 120,000 miles, caused the timing chain to fail and the engine to not have the correct oil pressure/volume. This led to oil leaking from all of the covers and led to complete engine failure. Although the engine was serviced regularly by certified mechanics for oil changes and multiple water pumps ( 3 water pumps in 4 years) the engine exploded due to high oil pressure caused by the faulty time chain tensioner and timing chain malfunctioning.

6 Water Pump problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 11/10/2018

The water pump has been cracked, leaking the coolant. The car engine was overheated but didn't lead to accidents in my case. Vw group is producing the water pump out of plastic, which eventually cracks for many of vw and Audi car owners, and could lead to the road accident indirectly.

7 Water Pump problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 02/25/2018

At 37,500 miles the water pump on my vehicle cracked and resulted in loss of coolant requiring tow for replacement of fuel pump on 04/19/17. On 2/28/18 at 42,770 miles a broken manifold plug clip resulted in displacement of coolant temp sensor, again with loss of coolant and tow for repair. Both of these episodes were noted after parking the vehicle following a short city drive.

8 Water Pump problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 07/25/2017

Turbo failure, water pump failure, and rear main seal failure. All right after hitting 100k miles. Nearly 5k in total repair costs. I've experienced reduced performance because of the trurbo issues. Issues pulling out on to streets, or on ramps. I opted out of the repair at the time due to vw wanting 2. 2k to replace the turbo, which should be almost a lifetime part. I then took it back 2 weeks later for the water pump which was leaking fluid everywhere, they replaced the water pump but failed to mention that the rear main seal will need replaced as well. Rear main seal is common, and could result in a fire if enough oil leaks on to the exhaust.

9 Water Pump problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 12/26/2016

Tiguan. Purchased the car in December 2015 replaced the water pump in February 2016 and again in January 2017. The water pump on this car has been replaced 4 times in its lifetime. Vw should issue a recall and offer extended warranties to all owners of its cars.

10 Water Pump problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 11/18/2016

Water pump malfunctions and oil leaks leading to water pump malfunctions that over heat the engine and cause significant engine damage. Three water pumps in three years and ultimately blown engine.

11 Water Pump problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 02/26/2016

The water pump failed at 106,246 miles, it was replaced. The pump failed again at 109,802 miles, it was replaced. The pump failed again at 135,473 miles. On all three occasions, the pump failed on start up, the car was not in motion.

12 Water Pump problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 08/29/2013

Today is the 17th of December and for the 2nd time in 4 months the coolant light has gone off in the car. The first time it happened was towards the end of August (I just purchased the vehicle a few weeks earlier). When taken to the dealer service department the problem was the water pump went bad. After the mechanic said it was still cover under warranty they replaced it. Today the coolant light went off again, same issue has before. After checking the car fax the first time it happened, this is the 5th water pump replaced in the car in 2 years. Today calling the dealership, the person at the dealership has said there are quite few Tiguans that have come in with the same issue the last few weeks. Researching the issue online there are indications that this is a problematic issue that has not been addressed by Volkswagen. The warranty for the part only covers a year and 12000 miles.
