So there’s a campaign to add a bracket to one of the catalytic converters. That’s great except I never knew about it and the thing they added the bracket to prevent happened to me. The exhaust pipe from the catalytic separated from the flange connecting to the manifold. It’s a 2000 dollar part from the dealer. Luckily I found a mechanic who is welding the flange and fixing what I got. Just another example of a car company knowing there’s an issue but not really attempting to fix it, only in a policy no one reads.
I purchased a 2017 Volkswagen Touareg v6 in October 2023. A problem with the vehicle revealed itself right away. It was consuming too much oil. Oil splatter is present on the hood, the car doors, the back bumper and built up oil residue is present in both tailpipes. Oil has to be added in about three week intervals. The vehicle is displaying the same issues as the vehicles recalled under recall number 21v321000 and I believe this vehicle should be added. I have taken the car to two shops that have confirmed the over consumption. Please evaluate.

The vehicle has an internal oil drain system that slowly leaks oil past the pistons into the combustion chamber of the engine causing the engine to burn oil. This is very dangerous when smoke exits the vehicle from the exhaust and into the air that could be inhaled by others. This same issue over time can cause an engine fire after the exhaust system is entirely clogged by the burned oil residue in the exhaust system. I have spoken with other 2017 vw Touareg owners who have the same exact issue and the problem is widely reported online by other drivers in forums.
Exhaust line for cylinders 4-6 developed crack immediately before catalytic converter. Problem has occurred in other Touaregs, there is even a recall for 2014 models. Crack allows exhaust to leak nearby air intake to cabin. Noticeable exhaust smell inside cabin, especially when stopped. No warning, just check engine light after the crack. Crack along thin weld, leading right into the catalytic converter. Also environmental concern that exhaust gasses are not being treated. Potential fire hazard.
The contact owns a 2012 Volkswagen Touareg. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, he smelled an oil and smoke odor in the interior of the vehicle. After a visual inspection, the contact observed oil leaking from underneath the engine compartment. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined the diesel particulate filter needed to be replaced but was unable to locate the part. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 124,000.

Random engine hesitancy reducing acceleration while driving. Vehicle maintained by the dealer for all scheduled maintenance and service visits. Within 30 days of a manufacture's repair that dealt with the hvac and air filter and a service visit to change oil and rotate tires, the hesitancy during driving was more pronounced. The dealer's service center stated the air filter was flooded from an hvac leak and a clog. I have found similar owners have had problems like this and vw will not address it systemically. I otherwise enjoy my vehicle, but am concerned that it will not accelerate when needed and is potentially dangerous without warning. It should not take loss of life or property to have this corrected.

Today, engine completely cut off in the middle of traffic (20-30 mph), loss of power steering and breaking power. Engine dashboard yellow message appeared. I experience this several times before and previously brought to the attention of vw service department and some ecu repairs and engine sensor repairs were done - but the problem continues to happen. Sometimes engine cuts off simply at idle (e. G. Waiting at traffic light) but loss of engine power together with power steering and breaks is very concerning when driving.

While driving the power train was seriously impacted, it is no longer operational and available for inspection at the dealer now. This is absolutely a safety risk as there was power loss and inconsistency which could have been very dangerous depending on the level of control required by the traffic conditions. The dealer has diagnosed and insurance is scheduled to inspect. The manufacturer has been requested by us to do a root cause but no response from them - this is apparently a known issue (class action lawsuit) that has not been official recognized as a recall. A transmission warning came on prior to the failure.
My 2010 vw Touareg tdi 3. 0 have 2 service campaign 23r3 and 26k2 which is commonly known for vw tdi diesel scandal. I took my car to vw they said they will replace the catalytic converts and knox sensors. And the ad blue box. Today I got a call stating that my car will not get a catalytic converter that's epa compliant. And they can only do computer software and replce 2 glow plugs out of the 6 and that's cant be done before I replace a knox sensor which is the service campaign is for then when the check engine light is off I can take it back to vvw to replace the parts and program the computer. Or pay then $900 for that sensor.

After recently purchasing this vehicle I noticed the car be long more and more sluggish. While driving one morning I experienced loss in power and an flashing check engine light and glow plug light on the dash. The car went into “limp” mode and I could not accelerate past 40 mpg on a busy road. I pulled over slowly and let the car sit. After turning the car on off and back on, the cel went away . I attempted to pull out into traffic and with my foot to the floor, the car has no acceleration leaving me going extremely slow into traffic. The cars acceleration has been terrible and really not safe to drive. I have several cel codes including p0402. After having the car inspected we found that the intake filter had completely deteriorated at the bottom. Almost as if water had been sitting in the bottom of the air filter box. After removing the old filter and replacing it with a new one, we also cleaned the mass airflow sensor, unplugged it and plugged it back in. This did help the vehicle drive much better. Unfortunately, this only lasted for a very short time. Within several miles later I’m driving a vehicle acceleration issues persisted again. Some fluid was found to be inside of the oil as well. The car vehicle is now scheduled to go back to have a full examination in service. Based on some recent finds it also seems that there have been many others who have experienced the same issue. 2016 Touareg was towed to ostein vw service after engine would not accelerate and ran rough when got onto the interstate. Ostein vw diagnostic was water into the air filter that got into engine and now need to replace engine block because of water getting into the air filter from the rain drain system system getting clogged for the Touareg. Vw service says can hear engine valves chattering. I see at NHTSA that at least 60 other complaints have been filed about this problem of water getting into the air filter.
In a non-driving environment rain water drains off the hood of the vehicle, down the right headlight and drains directly into the vehicle's intake pipe. In turn, this rain water collects in the intake air filter box, destroys the air filter and allows water to enter the combustion chamber causing erratic engine performance and untold engine damage due to the violent shuddering and erratic idle. This is a safety issue when driving in rain because the condition can be exaggerated causing the engine to lose power at highway speeds. This is a known safety issue and has been addressed via recall in china and europe.
There is an ongoing issue with the drain from the air cleaner box clogging and water collecting in the box and then being ingested into the engine. On other occasions I had drained water from the box and changed the wet air filter to a dry one. Today (5/26/2021) I pulled out of my driveway and car started stalling. I got a transmission fault notification and immediately returned to my home. After raising the hood I noticed a noise from the left side of the engine bay and checked the drain for the air cleaner box. It was of course clogged. I opened the air cleaner box and approximately 6" of water ran out of the box. I restarted the engine and no longer had a transmission fault but an engine management warning. The engine while running was running roughly. I contacted the nearest vw dealership and they stated that this was a known issue, that there was no recall, that vw had come up with a "fix" for the issue and that, of course it was not covered under the powertrain warranty. The vehicle is not driveable and will be towed to the dealership for diagnosis and repair.
Leaking gas caught on fire put it out but now I have no head lights no high beams replaced everything still nothing. All lights on dash go crazy kills battery all the time and had to replace something in the rear end. Overall it has cost me $2500 and I still have no headlights at all and leaking gas. It’s my only vehicle I hope next time it doesn’t catch back on fire could have been worse and still could be. Somebody could get hurt and I have kids.

When pulling out into traffic there can be a huge lag in time from when you depress the accelerator to when the car reacts and accelerates. It is not consistent which is where the danger arises. This started when vw "fixed" the emissions system. It is very dangerous when you have a smaller gap to get into in traffic. I was almost hit multiple times since vw retuned the car. I worry about my wife and kids getting hit by someone because of the lag/hesitation that is occurring. Vw should fix this issue. I am not the only one experiencing this.
Vehicle intermittently loses power when accelerating. Would describe the feeling as ranging from a shudder or "hiccup" to a dropping sensation. Occurs at any point of acceleration - whether from low rate of speed to high (as in entrance ramp acceleration) or from cruising speed to higher cruising speed (as when speed limit increases). Identified this sensation within weeks of taking delivery of vehicle and it has continued.
Keep getting water in my air filter box, soaking the air filter. Took it to the dealer, they said they removed some part in the drain. Doesnt seem like a fix to me.
Our 2015 Touareg tdi with 35,000mi lost power on interstate 10. The vehicle was in limp mode and only able to reach a speed of 20mph in a 75mph zone on interstate 10. Extremely dangerous. We made it to a dealer in las cruces, nm. After the dealer diagnosed the problem we were told there was water in the air filter, the turbo needed to be replaced, and the air flow sensor. After a brief search we discovered there is a design flaw with the exterior drain system. This causes water to flow into the air intake, thru the air filter, thru the turbo, and ultimately into the engine. The undirected exterior drain water damages the air filter, the turbo, and, in some cases, the entire engine will fail. I was told our 2015 Touareg tdi would need, among other things, to replace the turbo at a cost of $4,000-$5,000.
Waterlogged airfilter - car was serviced exactly one week prior to issue, and service director accused me of driving through a puddle of water. While I have driven through progressively bad weather in FL for years, I explained that I didn't that week and asked if this could be due to accumulation which was overseen prior, but he denied. $1000. 00 later, I am unclear how this occurred and how to prevent it. This seems to be an issue that is identified by multiple customers in various countries and remains unaddressed by vw north America.
The vehicle was left parked on my driveway for 4 days, during so heavy rainstorms passed over my area. When I went to go start the car after 4 days, a sunny dry day finally, its sputtered and suffocated when starting up. Having heard these vehicles have water problems with the air intake for the engine I immediately shut off the car. When I opened the air filter housing there were about 2 inches of water in the housing that undoubtedly got sucked into my engine when it was started. With the vehicle, not being driven at all during the rain, heavy spray from the road or other cars can be ruled out as a cause and I figure there must be a defect in the seal or design of the air intake. Especially, since vw china recalled these vehicles for the exact same issue earlier this year. Additionally, the car was parked on a typical inclined driveway about 8 feet in front of the garage door, in no precarious position. Now the vehicle continues to sputter and lose revs when starting up.
The air intake is collecting water and getting into the air filter housing. This can cause the engine to suck in water, destroying the engine. This is a design flaw and there is a recall at vw china but vw north America refuses to address the problem.
For several months we noticed a small puddle under the front right portion of the vehicle. We assumed it was a cracked washer fluid tank. Took to dealer they found nothing during service appointment. Technician mentioned nothing of the water in the filter area. Over next several months the same puddle noticed which we assumed it was merely hvac condensation due to us living in high humidity region. This very morning of July 13 2020 my wife started the vehicle after sitting for more than a week and I immediately heard the engine surging and suffocating. Had her immediate shut off. The location of the noise resinated from the engine air filter box. After I opened the box my feet were soaked from the seeming 2 quarts of water that splashed to the ground. I removed the complete water soaked air filter and scooped out the remaining 3 cups of water still lying in the bottle part of the box. The drain valve at the bottom of the box failed to drain off water which water shouldn't be in that region on any car. I spoke to the local dealer who responded in a surprised manner as if they never heard of that before. . . Well after internet research I found this issue is a world wide issue with pending lawsuits . . . No remedy avail able rendering the car undriveable until resolution identified. No movement on this issue from 2014-2017 models as internet research.
Water intrusion in air filter causing multiple malfunctions and severe loss of power. Multiple warning lights including, diesel particulate filter, glow plug flashing, and check engine. Vehicle had to be towed to dealer. Dealer replaced air filter and mass airflow sensor and charged $500+ for the repair. This is a vw cpo and still under warranty. They stated I must have driven through deep water for this to happen, which I did not. It would have required my driving through 3-4 feet of water. This never happened. This is the second time I have had the mass airflow sensor replaced in a 6 month period. I have noticed multiple complaints regarding this exact issue and also that vw has recalled this vehicle in china for the same issue but not the USA. I have contacted vw and they will not do anything.
Water from rain enters the air filter housing while parked outside, and soaks the air filter and doesn't drain so the engine ingests water and hydrolocks when pulling out into traffic. Volkswagen refuses to warranty this known problem. Car has 1600 miles on it. Bought new maech 2018. 40 days ot of service so far.
Water in engine airbox. Noticed air filter saturated with water when changing at 21,000 miles. Appears to be a known problem that is not being addressed by vw in the us.
Partially wet/moist air filter. Vehicle was not driven through any standing water. 1/3rd of the air filter is wet and looks like there was standing water in the airbox as the air filter displayed signs on water damage upon replacement for routine maintenance. It seems that water collects in the bottom of airbox and does not drain out even when drain valve is unobstructed and operational. Could cause an issue with engine hydro-locking and failing. Poor design. This could cause engin.
Due to a engineering fault water is a getting into the air intake and soaking the bottom of the air intake where its deteriorating the filter and also endangering the engine of sucking up water and hydrolocking. This is a known issue and has caused other vehicles of this make and model to lock up and disable the engine. It is not due to driving through water but simply faulty engineering that allows water to flow from the front of the car down into the air intake.
Water gets into air take system. Took vehicle to dealer for car wash and also purchased a air filter. Came to replace air filter and old filter was damaged and waterlogged.
After a rainstorm where the vehicle was parked at an angle I started the car and noticed it was making an odd sound. Discovered that the fixture that holds the air filter was contained water and the air filter was sopping wet. Ingestion of water into the engine can cause issues such as hydrolocking.
This has happened multiple times, at low speeds, car goes into limp home mode randomly and creaks along at 8 miles an hour, most recently lost braking power and message comes up "hybrid error, pull over in a safe location. " then when you turn it off and on again it works fine. This is not helpful as there is no information for the mechanic to go by to solve the problem. We have replaced the catalytic converter, both fuel pumps and pre-fuel pump mechanisms and still the odd error message lack of car running. I am thinking about using it as a planter in my yard, currently is it living with the mechanic waiting to behave badly again, so he can try and the problem, but not driveable by an ordinary citizen. It has happened, while slowing down, while turning, all at low speeds, but that doesn't really help much. I still can't drive it. It has 138k on a hybrid engine. It was rear-ended and repaired about 3 years ago, but it ran fine after that for a couple of years. This is a mystery problem.

Throttle lag. When I pull out into oncoming traffic it is dangerous. There is a significant lag between when I hit the pedal and when the car moves. If I throw the pedal all the way to the floor, it is not better. It is dangerous. I've never driven a car with such awful response to the throttle.
Water is somehow finding its way into engine air filter housing(intake) and soaking air filter element despite having only been driven under normal weather/road conditions. Vehicle has never been driven through any water deeper than a mud puddle. Am concerned about potential engine damage that could possibly occur if further water intrusion occurs, particularly if it were to happen while driving.
