My car engine transmission/fault lights came on and I brought it into dealer, who identified a wet, moldy air filter and water in the bottom of the chamber. This was the first time I brought the vehicle into the shop, but I checked air filter again today after a steady rain while vehicle was parked, and the box had water in the bottom of it. Additional symptoms I noticed were condensation on inside of windshield and dank smell.

Faulty air intake system allows water to be ingested. Air filter becomes soaked with water, and will ultimately fail if left unchecked. Bits of soggy filter media will damage turbocharger and possibly reciprocating components requiring engine replacement. Engine can fail at any time without warning, causing an unsafe condition. Water ingestion can occur with vehicle stationary or being driven in wet conditions. This is occuring in light rain, and vehicle has not been driven through standing water.

At 18,293 miles the vehicle entered "limp mode" while under normal driving conditions. The problem was diagnosed as the engine air filter being saturated with water due to a clogged air box drain holding water. At 26,054 miles, the filter was again found to be saturated with water. This required replacement of the air filter a second time. Normal air filter replacement is recommended at 60,000 miles. At last replacement, vw dealer "modified" the air box drain to improve drainage.

When it rains heavily, my Touareg air filter is very easy to get into the water. I checked the information on the internet, it said in other countries, there are lots of reports that the same model of imported Touareg has lost the power on free way because of the water filter entering the water.

My engine was damaged and brought to the dealership. The dealer is suggesting I have gotten water in the intake box and the drain was clogged resulting in engine damage. They are asking that I pay for the damages and I believe it is a design flaw. This was a reclass by vw globally but not in America.

I recently purchased a 2017 vw Touareg sport. Water is entering the air filter compartment. If water enters the engine it will shut down the car possibly in traffic causing a very hazardous situation, in addition the engine will be destroyed. Engine light came on after driving three miles in dry weather. After seeing recalls in china about water entering the air filter box and saw that the bottom . 25% was soaked. Saw many other Touareg owners on forums with same problem. Dealer towed vehicle in and falsely claimed car was sitting in water. Reset the engine code and charged me $50+ for a new air filter and delivered the car back to me, with the engine light still on. I've called the service manager and waiting on a call back.

During a rain storm and with my wife driving on a busy neighborhood throughway our 2016 vw Touareg lost all power from the engine and power steering. She was forced to stop on the side of the road and push the car to safety. Upon research we learned about a problem with water getting into the air filter and subsequently into the motor. The next day, after the rain cleared I unlatched the air filter and found water pouring out of the filter box and had completely saturated the air filter to that of a soaking wet sponge. I have towed the Touareg to the dealership and am awaiting the diagnostics. How could such a simple flaw remain such a major issue with out any action from Volkswagen? I only hope I do not have to pay for a new motor just because we drove in a daily summertime florida rain storm.

Water in air intake box, discovered when changing air filter. Vehicle has 12,6xx miles on it. No prior off road or deep water use.

The engine air filter box gets flooded with water which could lead to entering water in the engine and seize the engine operation. I noticed that this happens to multiple Touareg owners and vw of America does not want to issue a recall for this problem. It looks like vw of europe and china re-called this problem. Please help!.

Water getting in the engine air filter box, and saturating air filter. We have not driven in heavy rain, or through any puddles. Problem was found at dealer oil change service.

While reading a vw forum I became aware of a known problem with the air filter housing drain becoming clogged and the air filter becoming wet and water being ingested into the engine, hydrolocking the engine and requiring the installation of a new engine. I then checked my air filter and found the bottom 3" - 4" of the air filter completely soaked, to the point that water was dripping from the foam portion of the filter. I contacted vw and they have noted my concerns but there is currently no recall for this problem. I am now hesitant to drive the vehicle at all. As this has been a known problem for a number of years with this vehicle I am surprised that there is no recall in place.

Air intake system lets water into the engine which can cause destruction of the engine, loss of power, loss of power steering, and loss of power brakes while driving. I inspected the air filter on my car to evaluate it for this issue and the bottom of the filter was soaked after a car wash. It was completely dry before the wash. Volkswagen has recalled these vehicles due to this issue in germany and china but not in the USA.

Constant issues with water entering the airbox from faulty design. This can enable parts of the filter to enter the engine and cause catastrophic damage (hydro lock). This vehicle has only sat outside in the rain or has been driven in the rain; all normal conditions for the operation of this vehicle (current mileage is 9000).

Vw 3. 0 liter deisel engine with recall issue due to fraud by vw. Vw applied the fix to the engine as approved by the court. This fix has created a situation where the car has significant hesitation on take off and in traffic making it impossible to safely enter the stream of traffic or cross traffic at intersections. This is a repetitive situation occurring both at highway speed and at intercity speeds. Vw acknowledges the situation but refuses to fix the problem. Problem began immediately after recall completion to make vehicle compliant with federal law. Car was returned within the week to vw and has been returned additional times to resolve issue. Vw service reports no way to solve the issue.

My vehicle has been experiencing water damage to the air filter. It is unknown if this is from a car wash, driving in the rain or the vehicle sitting in the rain. This is a common complaint among an online website forum.

The Touareg has a design flaw that have the engine air intake under neath the front headlight, which, under heavy rain, will let water flow though to the intake pipe and get into the engine. I have personally validated this as my air filter gets soaking wet after a heavy rain. There have also been numerous break-down-in-the-road reports to Volkswagen but the manufacturer has yet to take any action.

Water was found in the air filter and engine. Service adviser stated that the vehicle was in water. I replied that the vehicle has be driven in heavy rain and sits outside in the weather. According to the service adviser the engine need to be replaced. I have researched online and found several more similar situations. This situation has caused the engine to seize and shut down.

This happened to this my 2012 Touareg. The engine randomly died, even on freeway, which is too dangerous. The previous time in in Jan,2018 and this time was on Feb, 5th, 2018. I went to vw dealership, they couldn't find out anything. Saying everything is normal and they couldn't suggest anything. But it is extreme unsafe for me to drive this car. The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Touareg. While driving various speeds on an incline, the vehicle malfunctioned and the engine indicator illuminated without warning. While traveling at night on a 4 lane highway at 70 mph in heavy traffic the vehicle went into limp mode without warning or any symptoms of a power problem. We had to move across four lanes of car and truck traffic while rapidly decelerating. Luck and skill prevailed to avoid a serious and potentially fatal accident. No warning indicators were displayed. Safely in the breakdown lane the vehicle continued an approximately 1300 rpm idle and would move at about 15- 20mph. I stopped the vehicle and the acclerator pedal continued to be unresponsive. I placed the vehicle in neutral with no change in the ability to increase rpm with the accelerator. I shifted back to drive and normal acceleration function returned. We drove another 35-40 minutes without further problems. The next morning the vehicle drove normally and I took it to the vw dealer. Their diagnostic review showed no issues and no malfunctions were detected.

I purchased this vehicle 3 days prior as a "certified pre-owned" from lakeland vw of florida. I was approaching an intersection and preparing to stop. As I rolled up and went to turn right, the vehicle suddenly lost power. Several attempts to restart were unsuccessful. We had to push the vehicle across a busy street, at which point I called roadside for a tow. The vw dealer told me today that it is my high pressure fuel pump, which seems to be a common failure for this vehicle.

While traveling approximately 75 mph on an interstate the vehicle suddenly lost power/turned off. There were no warning lights, no noises, no vibrations, no signs of anything. Vehicle had to be towed to vw dealer where I was informed that the high pressure fuel pump had failed allegedly due to substandard/contaminated diesel fuel. There was no sign of mis-fueling (no gas in tank when tested), contaminants are unknown. It seems that the hpfp is not designed to perform within the tolerances necessary to operate safely and reliably on 'pump fuel' available to consumers.

The vehicle is undrivable / unpredictable when the ambient temperature is below zero (f). This problem was observed for 4 days in Feb. 2004. The car will start, but surges and balks so badly you can't drive it. This condition will continue for over 20 minutes. It will re-occur the next time you try and use the vehicle so long as the temperature is below zero. The safety hazard is that it leaves you stranded wherever this happens. There's nothing the operator can do. Vw has tried 3 repairs: (1) change the engine oil to synthetic, (2) & (3) reprogram the engine computer twice to supposedly fix this problem. It's now 2 years later, and we are experiencing below zero weather again, and the exact same problem persists. My dealer is not able to find any information on this problem, and can't get assistance from vw. I will contact vwoa directly and initiate a case. Finally, in researching this problem, I have found many other owners of the v6 engine who report this problem and say it's never been corrected.

2004 Touareg v6 engine has been a torment, with 40 different problems! but two of the problems could be considered safety concerns! eradicate braking with lurching and acceleration hesitation both of which set up an unpredictable driving style! both of these problems are magnified when attempting a left turn. The driver can not depend on a assured performance at critical times . A driver must have confidence that his or her vehicle will perform with assurance at all times !.

The vehicle has an annoying proclivity to hesitate (sometimes for as long as 3 or 4 seconds) between the time the accelerator pedal is depressed and the time the engine responds. Under certain circumstances (e. G. , crossing a lane of high speed traffic) the delay could be very dangerous and even fatal. It has been doing this since it was new, and it happens only when decelerating, not coming to a complete stop, and then attempting to accelerate. We traded in a 2004 Touareg v8 that we had purchased used with 30k miles because of the identical problem, thinking that the defect would have corrected on the newer vehicle. The 2005 Touareg v8 was purchased new for $55,000 plus tax and license. The vehicle now has 32,180 miles on it.

My vehicle has an electronic throttle control which is extremely sensitive and from a standing start, does not respond to small incremental input on the accelarator pedal. Instead, once the pedal is depressed enough, the throttle responds and the vehicle lunges forward. This type of throttle response is dangerous, in that in a parking lot, or when parallel parking, or when in stop-and-go traffic during rush hour, it's virtually impossible to get the vehicle to move forward slowly (under 10 mph). Sooner or later, the action of the throttle will cause a driver to either hit another vehicle or perhaps a pedestrian. I have contacted vw of America and filed a complaint with them as well. They did not indicate if they are working on resolving this problem or not. My selling dealer was aware of similar complaints from toureg owners, but also has not received a service bulletin or recall from vw as to how to correct the problem. I would assume, since it's an electronic throttle, that the program embedded within some computer chip within the ecu will need to be replaced with one having a modified program to better control the throttle response curve.
