BMW 325 owners have reported 47 problems related to front air bag sensor control (under the air bag category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
After recalled air bags replaced, about 6 months later new air bag sensor light came on and diagnosed as passenger seat air bag sensor mat needs to be replaced. Just randomly the light came on and stayed on. I see this has been a problem in Bmws and there was an extended warranty for other models. This should be a recall as it is a safety issue as bags will not deploy.

The front passenger seat sensor in my 2006 BMW is defective whether the car is in motion or stationary but only when the car is on. Making the passenger airbags turned off during the event of a crash, many other 2006 Bmws like mine are affected with this issue. A recall has been done for Bmws for models 2007 and newer but not for the 2006 model year. A recall needs to be done for this year make to insure the safety of people and passengers riding in this car.

I have received a sensor light stating that I have a passenger restraint malfunction. Then it goes away after a few days until someone else sits down which would lead me to believe that it has to do with the pressure sensor mat on the passenger side. I have read that this happens to be a recall for BMW but my VIN apparently is not covered in the recall. I am extending this complaint in the hopes that BMW will investigate and extend the recall to more models with this issue.
Air bag seat sensor failure. I would like to add my entry to the long list of BMW 325 owners that should have been covered by the front seat occupant protection mat defect recall (see NHTSA campaign number: 13v564000), but apparently are not. According to BMW, my car was made a month before I. E. Nov 2005, the recall date parameters, which stared in Dec 2005. This involves a faulty passenger occupancy sensor malfunction that disables the airbags in 2006 e90 BMW 3 series sedan. BMW recalled previous years sensors but has not fixed the issue in later models. . Read more...
The passenger seat occupancy mat has failed. Although there is a recall for the same model, seat type (sport) and manufacturer date (2006/02), BMW does not consider our car part of the recall. Recall campaign 13v-564: e90, e91 front passenger airbag seat occupancy sensor mat model e90 (3 series sedan) e91 (3 series sports wagon) only vehicles are equipped with sport seat produced from December 2005 to September 2006 BMW has decided to amend the 2008 voluntary recall (NHTSA 08v-384) involving the front passenger air bag seat occupancy sensor mat.

While sitting at a traffic light the air bag exploded. Loud explosion and a puff of white smoky powder filled the car cabin. If I were driving, there would have been an accident as my visibility was zero. Without inspecting, a BMW service rep said a sensor had to have set the bag off. New air bag would cost $990 + the sensor replacement cost.
When a passenger sits in the passenger seat, periodically receive message from Bmw325i alert system stating that the airbag/seat belt system for passenger seat is faulty in its operation and needs to be checked immediately. Informed by dealership that airbag sensor mat is faulty and needs to be replaced. Feel this vehicle should be added to BMW's recent recall list and repair should not be the responsibility of the owner to repair at owner's expense.

Airbag and seatbelt sensor comes on and off randomly. Appears to be a sensor or connection error.
Regarding to a BMW recall for the passenger seat sensor issue, I have the same problem for my BMW 325i from 2006, but they said it is not covered in the recall. I had the same problem with my car. The passenger seat sensor failed out of the sudden. Should BMW cover this or do I have to pay the replacement out of my own pocket?.
Car has been to the BMW dealership several times regarding the air bag sensor alert. BMW dealership doesnt know what is causing the sensor to come on. I have made several complaints to BMW headquarters regarding this issue. The BMW dealership will clear the alert or attempt to repair it,then within less than 200 miles the alert comes on again. I return the car to the BMW dealership, then they want to try something else, which is costing additional money. BMW is aware of this issue and need to be held accountable. I just hope that an accident doesnt happen which will require the air bag to be deployed.

I started my car that morning and the airbag/seatbelt sensor light came on even though my seatbelt was fastened. I fastened the passenger seat belt to see if that was it but it stayed on. I took the car to the BMW dealership in augusta, GA and they charged me $120 to check it. They stated it would cost $530 to repair it. I decided to check if there was a recall and I see that this is a common complaint about these vehicles. Other vehicles within the year model have been included in a recall but 325xi have been excluded. Since the same malfunction of the same item is happening, it should be recalled on 325xi as well.
Front passenger occupancy seat sensor mat/pad failure. Initial inquire with dealer resulted in no coverage of repairs due to VIN break. As of December 25, 2013 NHTSA shows that all effected BMW 325xi 2006 will be repaired at no cost to owner. Nhtsa campaign #: 13v-564.
I have a 2006 325i. For the past few weeks has been having an issue with airbag and seatbelt light coming on intermittently. But now it started to stay on and currently my passenger seat airbag is disabled. The mat sensors fail to function. I called Bmwna and my VIN number was not in the list of VIN numbers that were recalled for this issue. It is very common (%75 of this model) to get this problem on this year of 3 series. It was obviously in defected parts list and caused the issue and I am not covered. This is not a wear and tear. This is totally cheap quality part that was put in the car. Why? because BMW does not want to cover even it is their fault. I am seriously considering to buy a benz after this kind of cheaply handled issues.
Passenger airbag sensor failure. Sensor light stating passenger airbag is off - sensor relay fails all the time. Similar to BMW recall 08v-384 and NHTSA campaign number: 08v-384. The build date for the car was Jan-06 and the related recall only covers to 11/05.

The icon airbag was showing when I bought my car in florida in 2012. . . So when I came back home in quebec my garage change the passenger airbag. . . This year (around June 2017) the icon airbag off appear again each time I have a passenger seatting in my car. . . So I think that someting is defect with the sensor or the airbag.

I've lately been experiencing an issue with my vehicle where when a passenger sits in the front passenger seat, two icons on my dash come on indicating that safety features are disabled; I get an airbag disable icon in the dash along with the roof lining of my vehicle near the sos button, a text that reads, "passenger air bag disabled" and is illuminated, indicating that the passenger airbag is disabled. Also a 'seat belt' icon shows in the dashboard despite it being clicked in. Nhtsa action number: ea08001 thankfully due to NHTSA, the manufacturer, Bmwna, was forced to recall a total of 200,000 vehicles with this exact same issue. According to the NHTSA listing, my vehicle is covered under a mass recall of the 'sensor mat' located in the passenger seat of various BMW models to detect when a passenger is sitting on the seat which then triggers the sensor to ready the airbag in the event of an accident. My model 2006 BMW 325i (with sports and premium package) is mentioned in the vehicle list, both by manufacturer make (BMW), model (3-series/ 325i), and specifically the type of seat, being sports package. I have taken my vehicle to the BMW dealership where I purchased it from to get the issue looked at as the safety of myself and my passengers was a prime consideration when purchasing the vehicle in the first place. I was informed by the service advisor that my vehicle was not covered and that I should pay out of pocket or contact Bmwna. I've contacted them and they denied me coverage explaining my vehicle does not fall under the recall. I firmly believe that I am being asked to pay exorbitant repair fees to fix basic safety systems despite that my car should fall under the recall as it is experiencing the exact same issues. My car is 'babied' and to be experiencing a failure of safety systems is extremely nerve-wracking. Thank you for your time.
The contact owns a 2006 BMW 325i. The contact stated that the front passenger air bag and seat belt lights remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who performed a diagnostic test and located a failure at the air bag sensor. The manufacturer denied assistance with repairs because the VIN was not included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 08v384000 (air bags:frontal). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 96,000 and the current mileage was 102,000. The VIN was not available.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 BMW 325i. The contact stated that while driving at 72 mph in cruise control the passenger air bag deployed without any warning. She noticed that the air bag deployed but not to its full expansion. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer and they advised her that the crash test sensor had activated itself and their not sure why since she never crashed the vehicle. The vehicle has not been repaired, but the vehicle was still able to be driven with the air bags deployed. The manufacturer was contacted and they advised her that she was not included in any recalls. The failure mileage was approximately 116,000. Tb.
