60 Warning Light On problem of the 2006 BMW 325

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

I am an owner of a 2006 BMW 325i with approximately 70k miles. Just recently, I noted that warning lights indicating failure of the air bag/supplemental restraint system. I took my vehicle to a local mechanic who indicated that the failure code was tied to an inoperable passenger detection mat. He went on to indicate that there was a documented recall/warranty extension related to this issue. I contacted my local BMW dealer who told me that the recall/warranty did not apply to my vehicle as it was manufactured after November 30th, 2005. I am filing this complaint as it is evident that the scope of their recall was not sufficient to cover all cars with this issue, as I have noted many other complaints similar to mine. I feel it is incumbent upon NHTSA to push for expansion of this remedy as BMW is clearly derelict in its obligation to address significant safety issues with its products.

The vehicle has not been repaired. My car falls under the criteria noted on 08v-384 recall notification. BMW says my VIN doesn't qualify, however my car still obviously has a problem, and BMW is in denial. I've also noted other complaints on safetycar. Gov with similar BMW interactions. BMW is avoiding responsibility, and the NHTSA needs to do more to protect our safety.

Failure Date: 03/02/2010

Multiple intermittent problems with door locks failing to open either by key fob, depressing button inside car, or by pulling inside door handle. To exit car, must lower windows and insert key into outside keyhole. This is a serious hazard! problem arises with no apparent cause, then will disappear a few days later with for no apparent reason. BMW replaced actuator (?) and the problem appears to have disappeared, but it cost me $1400. Other electrical problem is with air bag warning light coming on after car sits undriven for more than a couple of days. Was told that air bags will not work with light on. No reason found. Battery checks out fully charged.

66 Warning Light On problem of the 2006 BMW 325

Failure Date: 02/13/2010

I have a 2006 BMW 3 series that had a defective seat mat sensor. This defect led to the following indications in the vehicle: overhead air bag warning light illuminated, the red airbag light on the instrument panel illuminated, and the system check window (digital display between tachometer and speedometer) indicated a fault with the airbag. There is an active recall on this failure for 2006 3 series with sport seats, campaign number 08v384000. However, my vehicle's VIN number is not included on the list that NHTSA and BMW negotiated. BMW has denied my request to fix this problem at their cost. My vehicle is affected by the exact same problem that 200,000 other BMW?s had. There is a precedent for failure with the seat mat sensor. The cost to the consumer to correct this threat to safety is approximately $1400. Nhtsa should expand this recall list to cover all vehicles affected by this problem. This is a safety issue and the cost burden should not be passed on to the consumer in this case.

The contact also stated that the passenger side air bag warning light illuminated sporadically when the seat was occupied as well. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where a technician advised the contact that the failure could have been caused by the front passenger seat sensor mat but a diagnostic testing would have to be performed to determine the failure. 69 Warning Light On problem of the 2003 BMW 325

Failure Date: 01/04/2010

1-air bag warning light would not turn off after start up. Took vehicle to local BMW dealer. Was informed that I needed to fix this problem so air bag would deploy properly on passenger seat . Was told this is a 'common' problem on e46 models! very costly to repair. . Not to mention that the parts that needed replacement are well stocked at all BMW dealers that I called. . Very rarely has anyone sat on passenger seat. . The defect in the seat sensor is discussed in internet web sites as far back to the e39 series models as well as the e90 series models. 2- radiator expansion tank fails too often on this series model. I developed a anti-freeze leak on a return vacation trip. No warning was given. . Parked car in garage in the evening, noticed a fair amount of anti-freeze on ground. Again, was told this is common on this series e46 model. . Since when is equipment failure a standard for the safe operation of any motor vehicle? the parts that fail in this vehicle can cause great injury to its occupants especially the passenger in the case of air bag deployment. In the case of the radiator expansion tank, for this part to fail without warning can be catastrophic to the engine, which will cause severe damage. If engine is not operational, one can lose power steering or brake capability, or both.
