2 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2014 BMW 328

Failure Date: 10/01/2024

Engine coolant pump: the electrical connector of the engine coolant pump could become damaged. Small drops of liquid from the positive crankcase ventilation (pcv) system could drip down onto the electrical connector of the pump. Safety risk over time, this could lead to a short circuit and, in rare cases, a thermal event or a fire. We took it to a car shop and they charged us over $800 fixing something else that was not the issue. We haven’t been able to drive this car for months and it has caused tremendous inconveniences.

3 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2012 BMW 328

Failure Date: 08/08/2024

Without warning and no obd2 codes thrown, my car and many others in the e90 (2007-2012) 3-series (n52 engine) will stall, lose power, and/or burn excessive oil when the integral pcv - valve cover starts to clog. Many owners on the BMW boards online have reported similar problems. The e90 3-series Bmws have an integral, internal positive crankcase ventilation system as part of the engine's plastic valvetrain (engine cover or valve cover) cover. Inside the valve cover is a series of cyclones that separate the oil from the valvetrain gasses and route the gasses to the pcv system. Repair is > $4000.

4 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2009 BMW 328

Failure Date: 07/24/2024

BMW told me they would not be covering reimbursement for repairs/part replaced which I believe were damaged/failed directly as a result of failed pcc value. Now the recall notice for the pcv value does state that certain parts would be replaced or reimbursement paid if they were damaged /repaired as a result of failed pcv value. Here is a brief summary… I purchased the vehicle in April 2024. At the time had a mechanic check out the car. May 15 - took the car to BMW for outstanding pcv value recall. The tech told me they also did courtesy inspection and I would need front shock n tires soon. I opted not to have the work done that day. May 23 - washed the car /checked fluids/tire pressure etc - and found the coolant was nearly empty. I called and texted the BMW tech who I was in contact with for the recall work - no response. June 4 - drive the car 100 miles stop at friends. During the trip the ac was not blowing cold air like it usually did. No check engine lights or any other on the dash. An hour later the car won’t start. Took the car to my mechanic ( not BMW) and end up needing starter/ manifold gasket/ intake throttle gasket. I get the car back and shortly after more problems - when I would start the car the engine would shake for 15-20 seconds when I would start the vehicle while the engine was still warm. Also the fan motor would run extremely loud when in stop n go traffic. After researching online, I found all these issues others had experienced due to faulty pcv value. I contacted local bwm and BMW corp - was told reimbursement was not available for this latest pcv recall but only reimbursement for previous recall.

6 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2008 BMW 328

Failure Date: 06/08/2023

On all e90 series 3 (2008 BMW 328i), the pcv valve fails and is welded into the valve cover, thus if it leaks or gets cracks in the orange membrane, it will cause car to stall. . I almost crashed 2x and this part should be recalled. . It affects the fuel air ratio in BMW e90, and the car will run lean and not receive enough gas as air is leaking from the broken membrane in the pvc valve. BMW will throw engine codes with lit check engine light on dash. This should be a recall as the whole valve cover has to be replaced to replace a defective $10 pcv valve which is ludicrous. . . The dealer charges thousand dollars and up to replace a ten dollar part. The car has rough idle and will stall, creating a dangerous driving situation and fatal accident . Please recall to have BMW dealer fix these plastic pvc valves on e90s. . . I have enclosed pic of the valve . . It also has a spring but the plastic orange mebrane cracks, breaks and leaks air inside valve, causing check engine codes, rough idle and stalling of vehicle. . The valve is located on top of valve cover, welded into valve cover. Please help. . Thank you state florida p. S. Heat causes the pcv membrane to crack more~~pic enclosed of pcv valve its welded into top valve cover. . No other car has a pcv valve mounted this way so whole valve cover needs to be replaced~ thank u.

7 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2015 BMW 328

Failure Date: 05/01/2023

Vehicle is 100% BMW serviced for it's history, showroom to present. Vehicle had been smoking after sitting 2-3 days and driving. We'd park and see wisps of smoke coming from the wheelwells and engine bay. Alarming! never witnessed open flame, but as the saying goes, if there's smoke. . . Questionable component: 328xd fuel sensor probe (BMW part #13-53-8-594-893 fuel feed line 135040 ) complaint/report pertains to fuel sensor probe failure and resultant fuel propagation(backfeeding/leaking fuel from sensor connection) into adjacent wiring/engine bay foils. Diagnostic system did not report sensor failure until extensive damage and hazard was realized. BMW USA responded to report as not covered by warranty(high mile vehicle) and therefore not of responsibility of BMW. According to local BMW service team the event is not unusual and that several vehicles with same fail/error codes have exhibited similar fuel leakage/propagation/damages. Very probable fire hazard costly repairs; if system had detected failure when sensor failed we would have had it fixed. We reported the smoking several times but the service department didn't isolate the problem. We continued to drive the vehicle cross-country for 6+ months; each time the problem got worse. We got lucky repair bills came to almost $10k by the time we added all visits and the entire wiring bundle that had to be replaced due to fuel damage. Failed sensor repair is around $750? BMW needs to implement a way to mitigate this problem to keep from having some potentially catastrophic/lethal endings. Similar problems that have contributed to vehicle fires in these BMW vehicles: 1) heater box malfunctions 2) pcv valve 3) coolant leak.

12 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2010 BMW 328

Failure Date: 12/12/2022

2010 328i BMW that I own. Vehicle will not start. I had to leave it where it sits as we speak at my baby mamas apartment complex in lacey washington. Very dangerous and strong smell a burning smell I am finally after getting the trunk open come to find out that my battery was more than just “smoldering” and the positive terminal was melted all the way to the point where we panic and I had to disconnect it because it was red hot actually the bolts are melted together im sure and probably won’t be coming apart. I had to leave my key in the ignition and I left the car there after speaking to the apartment complex managers asking them not to do it. I’ve been trying to contact the BMW dealer and ask them what my next step is and getting it fixed as there is an active recall on it because of the pcv valve not being up to specifications and could cause a short and “an extremely rare cases can you catch fire. Which unfortunately happen to be my luck. The car is still in lacey washington and I don’t know whether to get it towed to the dealer in tacoma washington being that the guy on the phone was a complete a******* and told me to not get it towed there that they’re just going to get it towed out of there. At this point I do not know what to do but I need help in expressing the amount of beyond safe and liability on this recall through BMW to.

13 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2011 BMW 328

Failure Date: 11/27/2022

I've had my car for less than a year, and started having issues with my engine around cold weather season. I would constantly get a light signal on the dashboard indicating that my engine needs coolant due to it overheating, although my car remained up-kept with coolant and fluids. There were times where I had to stop my car on the road due to an extensive amount of smoke and burning odor coming from the engine compartment, after being serviced a numerous amount of times, the only issue found was in regards to my engine overheating, and supposedly fixed by adding more and more coolant. Eventually my engine gave out after taking a short 30 minute trip to my parents home on thanksgiving day. Now that a recall has been placed on my vehicle, I have an understanding that a pcv valve heater malfunction can cause an engine to overheat, and when not repaired, it can cause unrepairable damage to an engine. I also have an understanding that a valve heater malfunction can cause coolant to leak out, resulting in the engine overheating regardless of how much coolant is put in it. I have an understanding that a bad pcv valve heater can result in a rough idle, engine stuttering, and a drop in fuel efficiency, all of which I've dealt with. I've reached out to my local BMW shop in regards to this recall, and they refuse to even take in my car to look at it being that my engine is already no good, although the reason for my engine going out is most likely due to this recall. My car is sitting with a faulty pcv valve heater and the damage that its done to my engine, and the BMW shop of macon is telling me that this recall has nothing to do with my car without even looking at it, when I know for a fact the issues I've had with my car relates to the recall.

14 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2011 BMW 328

Failure Date: 11/23/2022

This car has a heater problem with the pcv that causes the car to not run in cold weather. The pcv fails intermittently and the car will not idle or run in cold weather. BMW issued this recall in March but it is not November and they have offered no fix for this. It is a safety issue and it's also affecting how the car runs. How could we be 8 months into this without a fix?.

15 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2008 BMW 328

Failure Date: 09/10/2022

Due to the crankcase ventilation (pcv) valve heater problem and BMW claiming they have no remedy for it yet, this has caused my engine to overheat smelling like burning electrical, the container holding reserve antifreeze has broken off plastic components that may somewhere be in the cooling system. The valve cover gasket that was replaced only 3 years ago is beginning to fail and is leaking oil into the brand new spark plugs and coils. This is unacceptable. They say to stop driving the car if you smell burnt electrical. Heck, I have smoke coming from the engine at times. How are people who only have this 1 car suppose to get places when BMW delays repairing people's vehicles. They are wasting our money! they should have to repair all of the parts that this issue has caused damage to while they have us wait for remedy that seems to never come!.

16 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2011 BMW 328

Failure Date: 09/01/2022

There is a safety recall on my car. This recall involves an engine component known as the positive crankcase ventilation (pcv) valve heater. 19 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2011 BMW 328

Failure Date: 04/07/2022

BMW has a recall on this vehicle 328xi about the pcv valve heater and had sent notice of the need to replace and it has been over 2 years and they have not found a remedy for the fix. The BMW warranty group confirmed a date on March 7, 2022 for the repair. Upon going to the herb cambers in brookline, MA. They told me they did not have a remedy to fix the issue and will contact when they have a fix. On April 2022 they sent a letter stating the pcv valve heater needs to be fixed under (17v-673 / 19v-273) and the remedy is unavailable and a new remedy needs to be performed. Issue is that if they do not fix the valve heater the engine could heat up and could cause a fire. They say a remedy is being worked on, but BMW should be responsible if a fire does occur.

20 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2010 BMW 328

Failure Date: 04/01/2022

The car is experiencing rough idles and an imbalance in the overall performance. The pcv valve is not allowing enough air to return to the combustion chamber, creating a rough idle as the levels are imbalanced. It’s also causing a lean air to fuel mixture, oil leaks and increased fuel consumption. The pcv valve hoses became blocked by built-up moisture causing high pressure to be built up in the engine crankcase. The only way for this high pressure to escape is up through the cylinders and out of the gaskets, thus causing the gaskets to lose their seals. Oil is now able to leak out of the gaskets because the seal has been ruptured. I’ve already spent thousands of dollars on services including gasket changes.

21 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2009 BMW 328

Failure Date: 03/08/2022

Recall for pcv valve (NHTSA 17v683) has been outstanding since oct 2017. I received a letter July 2021 from BMW saying I needed to urgently have this repaired and could lead to a fire. It said parts and remedy are available. Went to BMW dealer 3/8/22 and the dealership is telling me that the system tells them there is no fix available for this recall. (service agent: yordano rios reyes, and service center manager: mike) I told them I was experiencing an active issue with my car related to the pcv valve (excessive vacuum leading to erratic rpm, loud whistling, and stalls). They said their is nothing they can do, so they are telling me I should drive around with an active safety issue.

Failure Date: 03/02/2022

BMW has recall: #22v-119:407 - positive crankcase ventilation (pcv) valve heater still open with no remedy in sight. It has been months if not a year already (or longer) and I am waiting, together with thousands of BMW owners to get this issue fixed. It is totally unacceptable that a company as BMW leaves their customers hanging and allowing them to drive unsafe cars due to their laziness to fix this. What is NHTSA going to do about this? thanks. Happy new year!.

Failure Date: 12/15/2018

My vehicle was making a squealing noise, was louder when running but sitting still. Took it to a garage and valve cover gasket was leaking apparently. I know this happens to cars but my BMW is a 2011 with only 65500 miles at the time. . Costed me 1000 dollars to fix and a month before this they did a recall on the pcv valve and had it tore apart. Maybe it was someone's mistake when reassembling the pcv valve heater during recall at BMW dealer at towne auto in williamsville near buffalo NY?? idk but that is low mileage for this to happen.
