4 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2014 BMW 328

Failure Date: 05/05/2023

While driving on the freeway at a high rate of speed in pensacola, FL, my 2014 BMW 328d broke down. After several attempts to restart, the car was started in "limp mode" and we took it to a certified independent BMW mechanic, but could only drive at about 20mph in traffic with hazard lights flashing. Multiple error codes / mechanic inspection diagnosed a malfunction of the exhaust system overheating, which was melting the intake manifold. We towed the car the BMW dealership in fort walton beach, FL. The service technician confirmed the problem in writing, "the tech did find the intake melted. " also, the vehicle had been losing coolant for several weeks, but the coolant was not dripping onto the ground, indicating a leak within the system. Here is where my problems begin. There are several recalls and an extended warranty that would would fix the issue, as the independent mechanic told me. They are: 1) recall campaign 18v-755: exhaust gas recirculation (egr) cooler inspection; 2) recall 21v-907: exhaust gas recirculation (egr) cooler n57t high temperature; 3) sib 01 05 n47t/n57t egr cooler ltd wty extension to 10 years without mileage limit. My car was built to us spec, and sold via u. S. Military sales in germany (I'm active duty usaf). I was relocated to florida, and brought the car with me. When this happened, I was told to register my car with BMW north America to get into their warranty validation system, and I did so. However, my car does not show up as needing any recalls or warranty work, likely because it was sold in europe. As such, the dealer wants me to pay in excess of $3,000 to fix the problem. Both an independent mechanic and dealer technician have identified the previously-known safety problems as the cause of my car's breakdown on the freeway. I am in desperate need of help to get this fixed, as I've had to rent a car for weeks, and multiple calls to BMW north America and dealership visits have produced zero progress.

6 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2014 BMW 328

Failure Date: 04/03/2023

I recently got the egr cooler replaced as part of the recall campaign safety issue, after my repair, a very strong smell of fuel and exhaust was coming into my car cabin, when I reported to BMW they said it should burn off - that it wasn’t an issue. I took it a master technician to diagnose and inspect my car and he found that the turbo waster gate was leaking caused by all of the buildup of carbon and soot from a faulty egr cooler. I brought this up to the dealership, and they said unfortunately this problem is not covered. I’m escalating this issue because this is a majority safety and health risk, and BMW is not taking responsibility to fix the problem.

7 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2014 BMW 328

Failure Date: 05/24/2022

From purchasing this vehicle form autohaus of orlando, there was no such mention of this open safety recall at all. In fact, I believe the check engine light had been tampered with, as it was not on, but immediately came on a couple days later. On the carfax, it is listed as a manufacturer safety recall on 11/19/2021: "- recall #21v-907:404 - exhaust gas recirculation (egr) cooler - status: remedy not available - need more information about this recall? find an authorized BMW dealer, email customerrelations@bmwusa. Com, or call 1-800- 525-7417" 200 miles from the car dealership, the car broke down as it was rapidly leaking engine coolant, it was inoperable and ran very hot, creating the potential cause of a fire. I had to take it to the nearest BMW dealership, which was BMW of albany in albany, GA. They fixed the coolant leak hose, which appears to be related to the open recall, and made note of the open recall. But did nothing to fix it. It was one day after the service from their shop where the check engine light came on, and I asked them about it, and caroline from BMW albany said: "spoke to the technician, it says it is probably related to the recall for your vehicle that there isn't a fix for (the open recall you and I had discussed on the vehicle)- he says you could clear the code but it would probably just come back on with time. He says its also difficult to tell from that fault code --caroline eva BMW of albany" I asked "what should I do about it" and got no response back. Message even says "read" on 8/31/2022, I took it into fields BMW in daytona beach, FL for a separate service, and they did not fix this issue either. On NHTSA. Gov, it states the following: "if the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for your vehicle in a timely manner, please contact the NHTSA vehicle safety hotline 1-888-327-4236 or tty: 1-800-424-9153 or file an online complaint with NHTSA. 11 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2017 BMW 328

Failure Date: 02/05/2022

On February 5, 2022 while driving on 70 mph on i64 my vehicle shut down due to the recall causing the the high-pressure fuel pump to shut down causing the engine to stall and a message that there was a powertrain malfunction and the vehicle would not start back or go into gear. The interstate was very busy and I could have been hit by a tractor trailer or another vehicle at high speed. I received a recall notice that stated there was a remedy available November 2021, but when I called the dealership I was told there were no parts available and they would call me when parts became available. A month went by and the issue with the recall happened leaving me in a very dangerous situation. The car was towed to moses BMW on 2/6/22 and over 30 parts have been ordered. I have been told that there is no estimate on when the parts would arrive. There is a second safety recall with no remedy that has been present October 2018 and moses BMW sold me the vehicle in June 2020. I received a notice January 2022. This recall is for the egr cooler developing an internal leak possibly causing the vehicle to catch fire. I have asked BMW to buy the vehicle back due to safety reasons and the long wait time to fix the one recall and no fix for the other, and they refuse. In addition, they sold me a vehicle that was under recall and according to s. 1634 - used car safety recall repair act that was against the law.

14 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2011 BMW 328

Failure Date: 12/24/2020

Cylinder head bolt detachment from factory production causing massive oil leak on engine block. My vehicle rapidly lost 1 quart of oil in 2. 1 miles of driving. When I took it to a certified BMW service center, they found that the cylinder head bolt was complete severed from the bolt stem causing oil to spray out of the engine. This detachment caused oil to spray out of the engine, rapidly depleting oil from the vehicle. This oil sprayed rapidly onto the alternator, belt and other components in the engine bay. The certified BMW mechanic stated that this issue is seen frequently with BMW from the factory production methods and torque specs in factory production process. The cylinder head bolt becomes severed from the bolt stem/threaded portion of the bolt (see pictures included). According to certified BMW mechanic, this bolt would only be manipulated during factory production. I was able to catch the problem before the oil drained completed out of my vehicle or before the engine caught fire. There is significant damage to the engine bay because of oil spraying. I am concerned that a major engine component on my vehicle failed. This failure poses a significant safety and quality issue. This is a part integrity/quality issue that needs to be addressed by BMW immediately.

15 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2014 BMW 328

Failure Date: 11/14/2020

I have a 2014 328d f31 three weeks ago while turning into a parking spot at a grocery store parking lot at low speed, my 328d shifted to p mid turn, and the engine shut off. Upon trying to restart it, it would crank but not turn over. (thankfully, I was in a parking lot and going at slow speed - and not on the interstate). We had to manually get it shifted into neutral to be able to push it into a parking spot. Upon further inspection, it was determined that the high pressure fuel pump has failed. (thankfully it doesn't appear to be disintegrated as some others have reported). All open recalls have been repaired. This vehicle has been very well maintained, and great efforts have been taken to ensure only quality, fresh diesel has been pumped in the car. BMW has offered an extended warranty for this (not cheap) part. However, it's only up to 10 years or 120,000 miles, and my vehicle is at 128,000. I am incredibly grateful that no one was hurt, injured, or worse in this incident. But given the high frequency of this happening amongst other 328d owners, and the safety implications (many times on the interstate), I would expect that BMW would recall this vehicle and get these parts replaced before anything worse happens. It happened quickly and suddenly with no prior performance warnings, codes, or lights. In fact when running a foxwell schwaben 14020sch scanner, no codes are being returned. An additional safety concern of course is that this problem is not preventable with traditional diagnostics. My google research shows the bosch fuel pump was recalled in other models, but the recall exempted the diesel variants. I can't imagine an item prone to failure, that's not listed on a replacement schedule. There are multiple lawsuits out there on the bosch cp4 fuel pumps. (however cp4. 2 seems to be more reliable than the cp4. 1).

17 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2007 BMW 328

Failure Date: 03/02/2020

Just finished driving about 10 miles from home to work, about 70 degrees-f outside, sunny, good weather around 11am. Did not operate air conditioner, heater or vent fan. Car seemed to drive fine, no strange noises. Had no recent major repairs. We are second owners of certified pre-owned BMW, have had vehicle for the past 7 years and driven about 50k miles since purchase. After arriving at workplace, stopped at workplace parking lot with engine idling for a few seconds to wait for parking gate to open. However, began seeing white smoke coming out of driver's side of engine hood. Tried to reverse the vehicle out to the street and moved about 10ft before engine shut off and would not restart. Within 15-30 seconds a plume of fire erupted out of the front hood through the grill. Within 3 minutes entire car was engulfed in flames and its proximity to other cars in the lot caused fire damage to 4 other vehicles. Car was a total loss including all possessions within it. Electronic locks quit working as soon as fire started.

19 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2014 BMW 328

Failure Date: 09/24/2019

I received a letter from BMW stating an egr cooler recall was issued for my vehicle. I took the vehicle into bellevue BMW after smelling diesel inside the passenger cabin. They kept the vehicle over night and had me rent a vehicle while they kept the car overnight. Upon returning I was told that my egr cooler did in fact need replacing. I was informed that they would not be fixing the problem at that time because they had a catchy legal blind to hide behind. no remedy at this time. The simple truth is they could of sold me the new egr cooler. But they chose not to do that either. I asked the service adviser if it was safe to drive and he assured me it was. As it turns out he lied to me. A short time later the while driving on the interstate the intake manifold caught fire. There was smoke and a black soot bellowing out from behind the car and when I got pulled off the road large amounts of thick black smoke billowed out from under the hood. I called for a tow truck and had it repaired at an approved repair facility. 2400. 00 later the car was back on the road for a short time. A short while later I got to work and noticed a loud clicking sound from the engine. Took the car back to bellevue BMW and they tried to tell me the shop where I was getting my oil changes done were not changing my oil. This deliberate attempt to misdirect fault from knowingly putting me in a position to be harmed from deceitful business practices and blatant disregard for my safety is truly disturbing and woefully disappointing. Glibly I was told it would cost 26000. 00 to replace the engine yet nothing like an actual paper repair estimate was produced. Are these people just making this stuff up as they go along? my hope is that other people can read this and file more complaints. After reading about all the lawsuits and chicanery I can honestly say I would never of bought this car.

20 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2017 BMW 328

Failure Date: 06/15/2019

Recall campaign # 18v-755 exhaust gas recirculation (egr). I had waited 7 months to get the fix completed. I wrote a letter to the ceo of BMW USA. They had a representative assigned to my case. I told them that this defect is a safety issue for my family and gave then 30 days to fix it which expired on July 15th. They inspected it which doesn't show failure but it is still a concern as it says - "it would increase the risk of a fire". They still don't have a fix that has been broadly rolled out. I am in fear of driving this vehicle. I have asked them to buy back my vehicle as I am the original lessee. They have refused to correct the problem as they are prioritizing the fixes to their resale vehicles and not vehicles already on the road. If you need copies of my correspondences with BMW I will be happy to provide it.

21 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2016 BMW 328

Failure Date: 05/23/2019

Recall 18v-755. After waiting since Dec 2018 the parts arrived at my dealership for this recall. The care went in for service and the dealer "inspected" the egr cooler and pronounced it "fine". 22 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2014 BMW 328

Failure Date: 05/23/2019

While driving home from work my car began to smoke and make a hissing noise about 1 block from my house. I made it home and noticed the smoke coming from the engine area. I imediately sprayed some water on it just incase there was a fire. There was also a smell of burnin plastic. I observed the car for a few hours and waited for it to cool down. When looking at the engine I noticed that there was a melted hole in my intake manifold. And my map sensor had melted. While researching the cause I noticed that this is caused by the egr valve. I searched BMW north americe recall site and put in my VIN#. It did not show a recall for the egr valve even though there is a recall number of 18v755000 egr valve identifying the 2014 BMW 328d. I called BMW north America and spoke to them about my issue and it did not show my car having any recalls. There seems to be a disconnect if the VIN I provided to BMW north America and NHTSA does not show any recalls for my vehicle. This is a.

23 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2014 BMW 328

Smelling exhaust engine light came on. Took to BMW dealer they said my fuel injectors were leaking and have melted to the manifold. I asked and made a complaint with BMW after spending $3300. Thaey also mentioned there was no fix for the egr cooler recall. I asked if this caused my fuel injector manifold problem they say no. Engine light cake on recently also smelling fuel again while driving. They replaced #1 injector. Drove it for two weeks and engine light returned. Took it back to the dealer they said they are waiting for a exhaust cooler. I have had a loner for a week now. One I hope I will not get charged again. 25 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2014 BMW 328

Failure Date: 01/30/2019

Carbon monoxide inside the car is wayyy too high with the egr cooler leaking issue not being fixed yet. It's been 3 months now and the air quality inside the car is soo bad that I am getting headache from the soot and CO gas coming out of ac vent. I did a service today and even after replacing the microfilter and another filter, the problem still persists. The degraded air quality contains hazardous gas and can cause dizziness which could lead to fatal accidents at higher speed. I kindly request that BMW repurchase this vehicle from me as soon as possible, before I could get into any sort of accident. The egr cooler issue could also lead to car fire (which is definitely something I don't want to happen. ) thank you. Regards, thejas krishnan.

28 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2014 BMW 328

Failure Date: 01/03/2019

I received a recall letter dated December 2018 stating that my car is being recalled for the exhaust gas recirculation cooler. It states that the egr cooler could develop an internal leak. The cooling fluid could mix with the diesel engine soot & may result in smoldering particles. The particles could come in contact with the engine intake manifold and create small holes increasing the risk of a fire. The letter states that there is no remedy available yet. I called BMW corporate on 1/3/19 after I received the letter & they said there's nothing they could do. They recommended I call around to different BMW dealers & see if they have a plan put in place for this recall. They said since the dealers are privately owned, they cant make them do anything about the recall. I called freehold BMW & edison BMW & they said there's nothing that can be done & that I need to wait for the parts to be available. I travel 45-60 mins each way back & forth to work on the NJ turnpike so since receipt of this letter, I've been taking my wife's car, which is a lease, in fear of my car catching fire. I'm making payments on a car that neither myself nor my wife feel safe driving & I don't think it's fair. I'm forced to leave my pregnant wife & our 3 year old daughter home without a safe vehicle to drive. I called the NHTSA on 1/3/19 & spoke to beau. I explained the situation. He took down all of the information & gave me a reference number. Ref# 159562. He advised that if BMW doesn't offer me a resolution in a timely manner, to file a complaint. Although I received the letter in December 2018, when I checked the website provided on the letter (safercar. Gov), the recall was issued on October 25, 2018. Please advise what my next step to resolving this matter should be. Thank you for your time.

29 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2014 BMW 328

Failure Date: 10/31/2018

Egr valve on 2014 328d BMW : engine light has gone on repeatedly after each engine repair. Reported engine coolant had to be refilled before first repair. First repair consisted of 2 sensors for nox and 1 filtered air pipe. Engine light on again and found hole in melted intake manifold which was replaced. Engine light reappeared again. Owner suspects egr cooler leaking internally mixing with diesel engine soot. Told this to service tech at BMW of ocala and reported also to BMW of north America. Looking to be reimbursed for past faulty engine repairs and asking for recall on vehicle for this engine failure with potential for death and fire hazards. Engine fault on screen message said" drive moderately. Maximum drive train output not available. Consult service center"( which I did and still has not fixed it properly).

30 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2015 BMW 328

Failure Date: 06/02/2018

When I first heard about the recall for the egr cooler, I checked BMW's website and it said that the remedy was available. I took my car to the dealer, only to have them say parts weren't ready. I got a "drivetrain malfunction" error when I was driving to school a few months ago. After I got out of school, I was driving home when the check engine light came on. I took the car to my mechanic who diagnosed the problem as the egr cooler recall. He reset the code and sent me on my way. A few weeks later, the same thing happened again. My mechanic reset the code and sent me on my way again. I checked BMW's website again and they said parts were ready. I took my car into the dealer again, and they told me that parts weren't ready. Just today, I got another "drivetrain malfunction" error and the check engine light is staying on. I took it to my mechanic and he reset the code, but now the light is persistently on no matter how many times we reset the fault code. It has been over 6 months and BMW does not have parts ready. Every time I drive my car, I worry that it'll catch fire or something and leave me stranded along the side of the road. I almost feel like BMW should buy my car back, since it has had the same problem 3 times in a row.

31 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2014 BMW 328

Failure Date: 09/04/2017

Egr valve locked open, as sediment accumulated in the vacuum line from the leaking of anti-freeze into the valve. Manifold developed holes, as the egr overheated due the valve locking open. The smell of anti-freeze and diesel filled the car as smoke started coming from the engine, while I was driving on the freeway. Had to have the manifold replaced, as the manifold had four holes in it, and the egr valve vacuum line had to be cleared. Reported the issue to kuni BMW, who never reported the issue and warned me to not drive the car in the condition that it was in before the repair. Kuni also said that they had never heard of an egr valve issue and anti-freeze causing sediment to plug the vacuum line. This is the same issue that BMW has had to issue a recall for 2015-2017 models in europe and s. Korea. Kuni BMW knew of the recalls in s. Korea and europe when they talked to me. I am reporting this to ntsb, as BMW na told me that they had only made a informal report to ntsb, and they felt it was not a major issue. My car almost caught on fire and burned, while my pregnant wife and daughter were riding with me, but kuni refused to report it and BMW didn't consider it a big issue. Sad. Bavarian autoworks in vancouver, wa did the repair work. Recall should be extended to the 2014 models. As of today, I have reached out to the local news anchor on fox 12, as she also has a 2014 BMW diesel.
