I'm submitting this complaint per instructions on letter I received related to safety recall on BMW driver side airbags. On August 15th 2017 I was given a four week lead time for the airbag repair to be completed on my BMW related to recall #16v071 by my local BMW dealership (nalley BMW of south atlanta) thereafter I called BMW USA and they were of little to no help to speed this up. Because of the risk of death / serious injury associated with this recall my car remains out of use since August 14th 2017. Four weeks waiting for a critical safety repair is beyond a reasonable period of time!! I demand either my repair is carried out immediately or replacement vehicle until it is.

Takata recall - notice from takata states both airbags are defective, yet BMW only replaced my driver side bags even though my car dash is warning that my passenger side airbag is defective and or has a problem. Shouldn't both bags be replaced in recall. I'm a realtor and often carry passengers.
Takata recall front drivers side airbag inflated late and shouldn't have as well as the passenger side airbags in the roof in both front and back seat. Side frontal passenger airbag did not inflate. Chemical reaction occurred. Airbag deployment broke my left hand.

Takata recall: passenger side airbag defect. Message that comes on when engine first turned on and stationary, reads: "fault in passenger-restraint system affecting air bag, belt tension or belt force limiter. Continue to wear seat belt. " however, this car not included in the recall when I check license number.
Passenger seat mat failed turning off passenger side airbags for a car manufactured in fall 2007 in germany. BMW don't want to take ownership of the problem despite this being a safety issue and models prior to this cut-off date having already been recalled for the exact same problem. The passenger seat is rarely used and the car, despite being 9 years old, has only done 39,000 miles. This is a dangerous condition if the airbag is truly turned off though no codes indicate this is the case. Don't know what to believe.
Passenger side airbag restraint system malfunction warning illuminated sporadically. I took it to the dealership to have it checked and nothing was found. A week later, the same thing happened. I took it back and was told the passenger side sensor pad needed to be replaced. Now both the driver and passenger airbag/restraint system illuminated while driving or parked. The vehicle doesn't recognize my driver side seat belt being engaged. These warning appear either when the vehicle is in motion or parked.

The side airbag came out, after hitting the curb. Typically only the tire and wheel should have been damaged based on the impact.

Drivers side airbag was recalled in March 2016. Called and emailed repeatedly to see when I could get the airbag fixed, and was continuously told that the parts were not available. It is now October (7 months later) and the airbag has still not been replaced. This is a major safety hazard and completely unacceptable.

The same vintage BMW 3 series are being recalled for drivers side air bags now in late may 2015 . My vehicle is not being recalled now, but I have asked BMW north America who made my airbag to determine if my family is also at risk from the same manufacturer (takata ). After asking multiple times I have not been given an answer. I have also asked my dealer if they knew, and they said that the airbags have BMW logo and branding on them, but they do not know who actually made it. I would like BMW north America to tell me who made the airbags in my vehicle so I know the manufacturer.

The right front passenger seat occupant protection sensor mat is defective and causes the passenger side airbag to be deactivated. Research has shown that this is a very common problem with BMW. . . Recalls were issues for previous years (2006-2007) but did not cover 2009. Information available indicates this is still an issue that should have been addressed by previous recall/replacement initiatives.

Passenger side air bag disengages if passenger sits on any type cushion. Passenger side air bag disengaged light is on if passenger is in the passenger seat sitting on any type of cushion or padding. The air bag can disengage if passenger wears a padded winter coat. This BMW 328i originally was delivered with the air bag engaged with or without a passenger in the passenger seat, the passenger side air bag disabled light was always off and the air bag was engaged. BMW will not restore to the original delivered condition. The passenger sitting on any cushion or padding is in danger of injury because of a disengaged passenger air bag. This was not the original delivered condition. . . . Updated11/21/12.
The contact owned a 1999 BMW 328i. The contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, the vehicle hit a curb causing a crash. The contact owns a 2000 BMW 328i. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the air bags inadvertently deployed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The mechanic stated that the air bag control module would have to be recalibrated and referred the contact to an authorized dealer. The air bags were replaced. There was a recall under NHTSA campaign id number 02v223000 (air bags:side/window), that may be related to the failure. The dealer was made aware of the failure and stated that the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure occurred a second time. In addition, the contact was made aware by a police officer that the brake lights were not illuminating. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics. There has been a recall on my vehicle model (2007 BMW 328i) for cracks developing in the "front passenger seat occupant detection mat". This causes the passenger side airbag to be deactivated during a crash (NHTSA campaign number: 13v564000). I called BMW and they say that my particular vehicle is not covered under this recall. I really do not understand why my particular vehicle is not covered when my exact model is covered under the recall and the issue with my car is exactly the same. I feel this is very unfair. Please help me out here. I fear the worst because now I am married and I have a passenger more often than before. I really cannot afford $1000 right now to fix an issue that should be covered by BMW.
Bmw328xi got huge impact on the driver seat. The door bent inside and move the seat 2-3 inch inside, but the side airbag did not deploy !!! and BMW has not got the replacement part yet (hornest fiber optic) for 3 months.
My BMW 1999 328i/auto transmission has 98k on it and 90% of the time, it can't reverse.
2000, 328i BMW. My driverside airbags deployed with no impact or accident. BMW has offered to settle if I sign a broad release saying I can't talk to anyone in the media, etc. They insist I hit something in the road which I did not. My son was in the passenger seat next to me when this occurred. I thought that we had been shot, my arm hurt so bad. But my son screamed, "mom it is your airbag". We called BMW roadside assistance and towed it to the BMW dealership. I thought that we did everything right. But, BMW is calling me a liar. They said there is left strut tower damage. When I talked with my insurance company they said they could not see any damage and was there while BMW was investigating. I don't want this to happen to anyone else, yet they don't seem to care. I have done research on the internet, it looks like 2000 was a big year for recalls on airbags. The BMW is not listed and I wonder if they have covered up other problems. I assure you I did not hit anything, the deployement happened while driving down a well maintained road. Please let me know your findings, thank you.
While driving at 75 mph side airbag inadvertently deployed.
While traveling on the highway and without prior warning another vehicle hit on the right side, and driver's side air bag didn't deploy.

While driving at 70 mph on the highway the drivers side air bags deployed without any crash or any obvious reason. We drove through some rocks & debris on the shoulder getting the vehicle under control and stopped. The passenger side tires were punctured and leaking air (apparently from the debris) and subsequently went flat a week later. We received a safety recall notice from BMW regarding the possibility of inadvertant side airbag deployment. Even in light of the recall, BMW is insisting that we were "involved in an under-body crash" and that this should not be a warranty repair. The only damage to the vehicle appears to have occurred only *after* the air bags deployed. Dt.
Turned engine off, and went into store, and heard an explosion. Consumer stated driver's side airbag deployed for no reason. The dealer said that the wiring harness melted and caused a short circuit in turn deploying the air bag.
While driving 40mph hit a curb tire blewout, and driver's side air bag deployed, causing injuries.
Vehicle sustained a direct hit in side, between both front passenger's and rear passenger's doors, and side air bags did not deploy. BMW has been contacted.

The side air bag failed to deploy out the air bag door cover, when the vehicle hit a curb on rainy night, instead the air bag deployed down the door and blew off the entire door panel. Injures were caused as a result of the door trim which flew off and hit the passenger in the ribs. Photos attached. A field engineer took photos and the vehicle was being used in a training session being held there.
