Failure Date: 07/17/2020

Airbag lights keep going off, saying "fault in passenger restraint system affecting airbag, belt tensioner, or belt force limiter. Continue to wear a seat belt. Please contact the nearest BMW center. " or "function of the airbag, belt tensioners, and belt force limiters faulty. Ensure the seat belt is fastened despite the fault. Have the problem checked by the nearest BMW service center". These lights come on everytime the car is started, dealerships cannot figure it out, and any attempt to clear the code does not work.

2 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2009 BMW 328

Failure Date: 06/06/2020

It started happening here and there, while no one is in the passenger seat, it is saying seat belts need to be on and an airbag light, after a little while of driving the airbag light sometimes goes off but seat belt light will stay on. Even when someone is in the seat with their seat belt on - both of those lights are on seat belt and airbag. I'm scared if I get in an accident the airbags wont deploy. I'm also seeing I'm not the only BMW with this issue. Why is there no recall when this can cost someone their life. No cars airbag system should just go.

7 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2011 BMW 328

Failure Date: 05/06/2019

My car has 66k miles on it and about a month ago, the seatbelt and airbag indicator lights showed up on the dash. This may or may not be related to the fact that the seatbelt ding goes off when there is nothing in the seat if the seat was hot due to sun exposure. The heat panel was replaced a few years back for the incessant dinging, but returned a few months ago. The passenger side seatbelt ding goes off intermittently and the indicator light for the airbag and seatbelt are constantly on while the car is on.

8 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2008 BMW 328

Failure Date: 05/01/2019

The passenger airbag light in my dashboard is constantly on. The car thinks that a small child is sitting on the seat and disengages the airbag. So now the airbag is is completely disengaged even when someone is sitting in the passenger seat. I've taken my vehicle to BMW dealership and they checked my VIN and said it's not part of the recall and want to charge me $2000 for the repair. I believe my seat sensor is the same one that is being recalled but not enough owners with the same vehicle have filed a formal complaint with NHTSA. The two recalls that the NHTSA has recalled are 17v-428 and 17v-605. Why are those models the only one being recalled when there's definite malfunction with the oc3 airbag seat sensor? my car is the e93 model which is the convertible model, I believe that because this model was produced less than the 4 door sedan and that most ppl with convertibles don't have a passenger sitting in the passenger seat. I have a daughter that sits in the passenger seat everyday and I believe that is why it malfunctioned. My car is a 2008 e93 328i. I believe the same airbag passenger mat seat sensor is the same one BMW has recalled for their 2006 and 2007 e90 and e91 models as well as the 2006-2010 x3 models that are being recalled. Please include the 2008 e93 models as these are the same airbag sensors that need to be recalled.

9 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2011 BMW 328

Failure Date: 10/30/2018

I am receiving a 'passenger restraint malfunction' message on my dash and the seatbelt and airbag light are stuck on. Online BMW states "the oc3 mat needs to be replaced. Check with your dealer, we extended the warranty on some models. " I checked with my dealer and this does not qualify. They will not cover this safety repair. I cannot safely have anyone ride in the passenger seat, and the seat ceases to move as well. My dealer states it costs $1350 to fix and they would need to order in the part and have my vehicle for 2 days. This is a safety issue. Safety issues should not have an 'expiration date' as to when the dealer will or will not cover it. The care is 7 years old and has 63,000 miles. This defect was covered for the 2006 and 2007 models and became a recall. I see online in forums others are experiencing this in the 2011 model. I am forced to pay a mechanic to fix this now.

10 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2008 BMW 328

Failure Date: 10/22/2018

I have the airbag light on that causes warning sign on the information center. I took the car to crevier BMW in santa ana, California to have it checked. They told me that the passenger seat detection mat sensor needs to be replaced. This is the problem that's existed before in previous years of the same model, according to nthsa publication on 2013-12-14. Would you please extend the years of the coverage since basically 2006-2011 is the same body type and components for BMW vehicle. Thank you so much.

11 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2007 BMW 328

Failure Date: 10/17/2018

The seatbelt light is on as if there is someone in the car without a seatbelt on. The airbag light is on and the engine light as well. They all popped up around the same time.

12 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2008 BMW 328

Failure Date: 10/12/2018

Use of the right front (rf) passenger seat would cause an air bag and seat belt malfunction indicator light. The lights would go out after a number of ignition cycles if there was no rf passenger, but would reappear after a passenger used the seat. The vehicle was taken to a BMW dealer on 10/12/18 and they found that the "oc3 mat" was faulty and they recommended that it be replaced and programmed. This is a similar issue to two other BMW recalls (17v-428 and 13v-564) related to the front passenger air bag seat occupancy sensor mat. This vehicle is a 2008 BMW e90 3-series with sport seats but is not included in either recall.

13 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2008 BMW 328

Failure Date: 10/01/2018

The dealer (BMW of fort myers, 15421 s tamiami trail, fort myers, FL 33908, (844) 283-1830) diagnosed that the front passenger occupant detection mat needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 68,750.

14 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2010 BMW 328

Failure Date: 09/24/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2010 BMW 328xi. While driving approximately 25 mph, the seat belt chime on the front passenger side sounded and the air bag warning indicator illuminated. There was no passenger occupying the seat. After the last incident on September 24, 2018, the failure occurred every day. The only way to stop the chime was by engaging the latch on the seat belt buckle. The vehicle was taken to winslow BMW of colorado springs (5845 n nevada avenue, colorado springs, CO 80918) where it was diagnosed that the sensor mat on the front passenger side was damaged and needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 109,000.

15 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2011 BMW 328

Failure Date: 08/02/2018

Takata- recall related to airbags,& seat belt, however when you call the BMW of memphis they state there is no recall or remedy for the airbags & seat belts. . It is very unsafe to drive this car as everytime you in the car the seat belt light & airbag lights came on all the time and stay on. There should be a national recall with a remedy to fix this problem as safety come first. However, I have call several times and have been told there is no remedy for airbags and seatbelt issue. The vehicle can be stationary when this happens and in motion.

21 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2009 BMW 328

Failure Date: 11/13/2017

Seat occupancy detector faulty. Passenger airbag light came on so took to BMW dealer. (as an aside this occurred shortly after (WI 3-4 months) air bag replaced due to takata airbag recall). Told related to seat mat sensor, which was under/in passenger seat. Not told that could disable front air bag. Not told that multiple BMW models including 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 models have same defect, including the 3 series, and the 328i model, and the 5 series, and in particular, models with climate or sport seat (like mine). Told replacement cost well over $1,000. Declined service thinking it was just a defective seatbelt notice issue (and seatbelt worked), not realizing impacted safety. When air bag light continued to stay on and came on more frequently, took car to a non-BMW repair shop for a second opinion, which told me this is a very common issue with Bmws and that defect prevents passenger air bag from deploying. Called BMW dealership back and restated what other repair shop had said and this time service person told me may be subject to recall, but when he looked up VIN number this particular model not included. This time BMW service person also told me that issue will deactivate air bag deployment. BMW refused to repair without charging full amount. Called BMW customer relations and services at BMW USA to complain and while acknowledging all of these issues with other models/years claimed they could not assume the same issue occurring here. Really??? this is an issue that can significantly increase risk of injury in the event of a crash. BMW is aware of the issue and refuses to do anything about it. Shame on BMW.

"seat-belt light/takata recall, it seems that my VIN number is not listed among the vehicles recalled but my airbag lights have been coming on and off as well as seatbelt lights and I believe that the two systems are linked and should be investigated for security reasons, the lights came on as the vehicle was in slow motion as I was attempting to park. I would like to have the parts replaced, especially if the airbags are manufactured by takata or another manufacturer.

It seems that I have damage to my valve cam, well just looked up and the vehicle was involved in an accident that was never reported to me at the time of purchase - I am looking at paying over 1700 for a valve cover (labor and material). My air bag lights came on in July and I am told that my VIN is not under recall - when I took to mechanic I was told to take to BMW to have added to recall.

32 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2007 BMW 328

Failure Date: 11/01/2015

I am having the same problem that was reported in the NHTSA campaign number: 13v564000. However my VIN is not included with the recall. How can I have my car added to the recall list. I do not think that it is fair that BMW will not fix this for free considering it was reported but I was just unlucky with having my VIN included. The airbag light is on and as well as the yellow light on for the passenger side seatbelt. I purchased an airbag/srs . The code came up as 93c3. I tried to clear the code however it wouldnt clear and I believe that is due to the issue not being fixed. I checked all of the cables under the seat for the airbag mat. Please help me with this issue! thank you.

35 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2008 BMW 328

Failure Date: 07/31/2015

Passenger side airbag light came when I started the car, then it shows like passenger airbag is off. For the past 2 weeks the light was coming intermittently, but now it is always on when I start the car and it shows passenger airbag is off. I searched online about this issue and went to mechanic. They gave me error code "93c3" which is passenger seat airbag sensor is not working in the seat and it will cost around 1300$ to fix this issue. BMW had a recall about this issue but it doesn't cover 2008 models. I have a sport seat, and when I checked online, I saw in the forums that lots of people are having the same problem. I believe this is a manufacturing problem and BMW should recall effected cars. Because it is very important safety issue. . .
