Air Bag Problems of BMW 328 - part 1

The vehicle’s "passenger airbag off" light and dashboard srs warning lamp are illuminated. A diagnostic scan using a BMW-specific tool confirms manufacturer fault code 93c3 (passenger seat occupancy detector). This indicates a hardware failure of the oc3 internal seat sensor mat. Safety risk: the failure of this sensor prevents the vehicle from correctly identifying if an adult is in the passenger seat. This compromises the supplemental restraint system (srs) and may result in the passenger airbag failing to deploy during a collision, posing a significant risk of injury or death to the occupant. I am not sure how BMW has not recalled this safety issue as it seems to linger throughout many of their models for many years. One recall was for air bag deployed I had the light for it on but it was on when I got it the original owner said it popped on him well he was parked and he never fixed it or did anything . . . The other was a part of the computer pretty much in charge of cooling the car down it can make fire from melting and cause unfixable/ to constant issues . . . . Well my hole engine stopped working it was getting too hot miss firing coolent mixing with oil and started to smoke it was white smoke that came out didn't smell like anything crazy maybe mostly coolent and pretty much it had electric issues since I got it so the recall issue makes sense so I took it in to BMW riverside they said they will fix all that and contact me it's been almost 2 weeks I live in my car I'm disabled and a mom I can't even go drive and see my child over this I have no income disabled type thing and no word what's wrong they said they might charge me a few of 287 but I'm disabled no income yet so that's out it tells me it will be fixed free and if the dealer won't fix the electric system on everything in the car and not charge me later like they said they will then I want to sue big time and if that's not dun when clearly safety was in danger fire issues and crap I want the same car but a new one off the lot not brand new car or fix then I'm sueing for my losses that simple.

Nothing has malfunctioned yet on the vehicle, however, these recalls are putting my daughter at risk while driving as there is an air bag and engine recall on the vehicle. Every time we contact the dealership, the recall is still unavailable.

I along with many others are getting a passenger restraint sensor error which prevents the airbag from deploying. This is very dangerous and the repair cost is $2000. This sensor determines if there is an occupant sitting in the front passenger seat and if they meet the weight limit for the airbag to deploy. When it malfunctions, the airbag will not deploy even though a passenger may be seated there.

Timing chain broken, sas light on, drivetrain malfunction….

Front seat passenger side seatbelt warning indicator activates when no person is in passenger seat. Airbag warning light illuminates even when there is a passenger in the seat. I see numerous complaints about the same/similar issues in your data base, but seemingly no resolution or recall. My car is a convertible. I note from other complaints on your website that a related recall was initiated for my year make model but it did not apply to convertible version of this model. That is irresponsible and unacceptable.

Several BMW dealerships have told me they are unable to remedy a safety recall that pertains to the airbags. This puts anyone who drives this vehicle at severe risk if the airbags will not work. The dealership basically told me I'm out of luck. The problem has been confirmed by the dealer and they said they cannot fix it. I have tried contacting 4 BMW dealerships with no luck. There are no warning lamps or messages on the dash. The recall was announced to me April 2024.

Passenger-restraint system this light has turned on and I see that certain BMW’s had recalls on this exact issue. Not sure why my 2013 328i was not included in the recall.

The the oc3 mat on the passanger car just showed up faulty which causes the air bag light to also come on. I have seen a lot of others posting they are having the same issue. Can you help me find out if this has already been recalled but not replaced on my car or if it hasn't even been recalled yet this is a safety issue. Because the airbags will not function if the oc3 mat is not functioning properly. There wasn't anyone in the seat and the car had not been in an accident when the lights for the seat and airbags came on I took it in for a diagnostic and they said it was the passenger oc3 mat . I have read some of the same modle had already had recalls just trying to find out if this was one that should have been because the rep at the dealer ship said this was the first one he's ever seen go bad on any car since he's been there. The big problem I'm having is the warranty I bought with the car won't cover this repair either and I'm a disabled veteran so I can't afford it at this moment.

Received letter of recal Dec 2023 for recall campaign no 23v-707 is been almost two months and BMW not communicating with me to find solution letter said remedi unavailable engine bolts may over time loosen and eventually break how they want public to drive like that this should be a priority is dangerous.

Fortunately, an incident has yet to occur, but the front passenger air bag occupancy sensor is faulty causing the deactivation of the air bag rendering any passenger at risk. BMW of north America has been contacted about this faulty sensor. Recall b651017 & 17v-428 have addressed this faulty sensor on many BMW models with replacement as the remedy…a stated (3) hour repair. My BMW model (328i - 62k miles) unfortunately, is not listed on the recall notice, but, nonetheless, is still a safety issue. Serious enough that on the recall it states that no passenger should sit in the front passenger seat while this faulty condition exists and further recommends passengers sit in the rear seats! regardless of warranty status and recall model omission, I have reached out to BMW of north America. First response was refusal of any repair assistance with a textbook definition of a car warranty. It was further reviewed by their escalation team and the response was an echo of the first. If this wasn’t a safety issue that wasn’t addressed on other models via a recall, I wouldn’t be writing this and would abide by the car warranty and take care of myself. Since this is a known issue by BMW, I feel this repair should be taken care of as it affects the safety of my family. It affects any future owner as well, which now leaves me a car that is basically unsafe to sell leaving me in double jeopardy. After researching costs for this repair, it seems the average is $1500-$2000 which I cannot afford. I have offered to pay for parts and some labor but the escalation team (clay) has offered zero in assistance. Passenger restraint system malfunction alert when car is turned on. Air bag and passenger seatbelt warning lights are on. Passenger seat belt light will never turn off even with no passengers in the car. Air bags for passenger are off when there is a passenger in the car causing a safety concern. BMW wants $1000 to diagnose what the issue is for the airbag light only but not to fix it or check the seat belt light. Already paid them $100 just to tell me exactly what the message said on the car screen. Seeing the same issue all over the internet with flaws in the passenger restraint system for this model and similar models but no fix. Found an extended warranty but does not list the e92 model, all other models are listed.

I was driving to target and from a stop I was 75% through the turn when a car ran the stop sign and hit my car straight on . The impact was supposed to deploy the airbags but was not deployed due to a malfunction, I was injured in this accident from my neck down my back . Car running lean oil leak getting hot,loss of power,jolting forward also my car has been in dealership shop for 2 years I'm being charged for services I know weren't done,overcharged,and my car still isn't fixed also the service manager told me he was aware of the recalls,when I told him to this was 4 days ago,however my car is being withheld from me,recalls have been known if it's been two yrs,they filed a lien June of last year I opposed it and they never responded back! my car still sits there causing injury to my livilyhood I've missed almost 1year of work I live in the sierra's where it snows I can't get to work with no car!.

Something from the passenger front wheel side must have messed up since after I went over a small bump in the road I lost control of my vehicle that resulted in my crashing into a bobbed wire fence and a pole that was holding up the fence. My car was completely totaled and no airbags deployed from anywhere in the car. The steering wheel hit me so hard in the abdomen that it caused my t11 and t12 vertebrae in my spine to break from the doctors reports it was stated that the airbags have failed witch resulted in a direct impact to my abdomen by the steering wheel and instantly I knew I broke my lower back. My 4yr old son who was restrained in his car seat was passenger in the backseat during the accident but didn’t sustain injuries besides some whiplash and having nightmares. The car was towed by chp to a local tow yard since I was taken to the hospital by first responders after I was discharged I regained possession of my vehicle that sits in my driveway considered to be un toweable by the tow company storeing my car and needed to pay extra to have them tow it to my house. Please investigate any defects of my vehicle since my son and I could have lost our lives due to the airbag malfunction in the entire vehicle.

I stated on another form about my other safety issue. My son was in an accident in 2013 328i xdrive this website states this vehicle does not have an open recall or any recalls on it. I say bull crap not only did my son lose break, accessibility and crash into a tree doing 54 miles an hour. He also had the airbags deploy and burned him. Air bag dust literally ate right through his pants. I still have the severely burned up his hands we purchased this vehicle for son last year, because Bmws are known to be safe. My 16-year-old son was almost killed in his car because of Bmws negligence.
