BMW 330 owners have reported 55 problems related to side/window air bag (under the air bag category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Takata recall. BMW of fairfax, virginia replaced only one of two bags recalled, even though the appointment and work order said to replace both air bags. They then said the job has been completed. However, the passenger side airbag had not been replaced. Were it not for my subsequent careful review of the invoice and follow up questioning with the dealer, I never would have known I still had a defective air bag. I sent detailed email questions to the service manager and have not had a response.

Takata recall - I have called all the BMW centers in my local area and none have been able to replace the drivers side airbag. They have no clue when and act as if it is not a real safety issue.
Takata recall. Concerning NHTSA recall number 15v318. Vehicle BMW 330ci 2006 driver's front air bag. On June 17, 2015 I took my vehicle in to the BMW dealership, jackie cooper BMW in edmond, ok, phone number (405) 755-3600 and they replaced the passenger side air bag pursuant to BMW recall campaign number 14v-428. However, at that time they said "we don't have the driver's side front air bag. As of August 2, 2016, this dealership (a BMW dealership) is still telling me "we don't have the driver's front air bag and don't know when we can get it. Sorry. " they are offering no further explanation or referral to another source to get this air bag replaced. I have uploaded a copy of my registration.

Takata recall. My 14 year-old BMW's driver's side airbag has still not been replaced (recalled 05/27/2015).
Takata recall. I have been in contact with BMW north America & my local dealer for well over 1 year on my driver's side airbag recall (after a multi year delay to get the passenger side replaced), but still do not have any idea of when they will fix the problem. Most recently, BMW nam told me "remedy is available" in writing. I have called the local dealer & left messages 3 times, but the service department will not call me back. The secretary for the service department told me while leaving a message I needed to come to the dealer to order the recalled part. I asked how this could be correct. I really need to go to the dealership to order a part for a recalled item? BMW nam now will not return my emails. I have asked multiple times to simply disconnect the potentially deadly airbag until a replacement is available, but they will not. I cannot understand why both the parent company & the dealer refuse to return my calls & emails, and simply provide me with information on when my car will be fixed. Further, why would they say a fix/remedy is available & then stop communication and not follow through, making the required repair. Please help me in getting this potentially deadly airbag replaced. Please fine BMW for operating in such a horrible manner. Thank you, farrel weil, farrel_w@hotmail. Com, 504-615-2442.

Drivers side seat belt buckle/tensioner failed and would not hold onto seatbelt. This caused the seatbelt alarm to sound as well as deactivate the drivers side airbag.
Takata recall first I should say that this is not a complaint about an incident. This is a complaint about the failure of BMW to provide a timely replacement for the thirteen (13) year old driver's side airbag in my 2004 BMW 330i, which has spent all of its life in a high absolute humidity location (houston, texas). I first contacted BMW on April, 26, 2016 regarding the takata airbag recall on my 2004 BMW 330i. They first offered to perform an interim repair or an alternate provided vehicle. However, the insurance company informed me that the replacement vehicle would not be covered under my current policy. I followed up again on July 15, 2016, and BMW informed me that interim repairs were no longer being offered because final repair parts would be available shortly. They said I would receive a notice in the mail letting me know when I could take my vehicle in to my local BMW center for repair. I have verified that my address and contact info is correct with both BMW and the repair center in houston, texas. Houston, texas is a high absolute humidity area and this car is 13 years old with the original airbag still installed. I drive this car every day to and from work in high traffic areas inside the city of houston. I believe BMW has had ample time to procure a replacement airbag, and I have called them and wasted several hours of my personal time on this still unresolved issue. In short I believe BMW is stalling with the replacement of older model year airbag replacements, because they believe these vehicles are "end of life" and there is little incentive for BMW to fix them. However, this vehicle has low mileage for its age: eighty thousand (80,000) miles, and the lack of an airbag replacement will diminish the resale value or make it much more difficult to sell.

I received a recall notice dated July 2015 and I would like to have the driver side airbag replaced. But, san diego area BMW dealers say they don't have any replacement parts. What can I do to protect my self from a shrapnel airbag in the meantime? how can I get a replacement airbag as soon as possible? thanks.
My passenger side air bag sensor mat has failed. This is the second time this has happened on this vehicle. Other models of the 2006 BMW 3 series are included in a passenger air bag sensor recall. I feel my vehicle has been wrongly left out of the recall.

Takata recall I received a notice that my driver's side airbag was to be replaced under the takata recall in June 2015. I have made over a dozen requests with my local BMW dealer to have the recall performed but each time I have been told there are no airbags available. My complaint is that I drive my car every day with what is a known defective (and possibly deadly) safety device and while I know the replacement airbags are being produced I am not able to have one allocated for my vehicle. This is not an acceptable situation!.
The contact owns a 2006 BMW 330xi. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the passenger side air bag sensor light illuminated, indicating that the passenger side air bag system was faulty. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 13v564000 (air bags). The contact stated that the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 101,000.
I side swiped a curb at a weird angle and it caused my drive side and passenger side side air bags to go off. The driver airbag exploded with such force that it broken my collar bone severely enough that I had to have surgery and metal plates put it to hold it back to together.
The car is subject to two recalls. I have been calling BMW for over a year trying to resolve this issues. BMW says no parts are available for the July 2015 recall 15v318 unless I bring the car for inspection. Makes no sense. BMW has also been obstructionist on the 2014 recall 14v426. I live 60 miles away from the dealer. 1. They refuse to order parts for the drivers side airbag recall unless I come in for a 5 minute "inspection" first (120 miles round trip). 2. Only after the inspection, they will order parts; this requests a second trip (120 miles) because repairs can take up to 6 hours and they can't guarantee when parts for both recalls will be ready 3. They refuse to provide a loaner car or a definite time frame for the repairs and suggest I rent a car for up to a week. This would require 3 trips (360 miles plus gas and tolls) and up to 7 days rental at $35/day plus tax, gas and tolls ($250). Seems totally unreasonable. Meanwhile, I have a car with two potential deadly defects. BMW appears to be intentionally obstruction owners from effecting the repairs by creating an artificial inspection requirement which requires at least on extra trip to a dealer. Outrageous!.
The contact owns a 2006 BMW 330i. The contact stated that the air bag sensor illuminated on the front driver and passenger side. The sensor on the driver side remained illuminated for an air bag malfunction error and the front passenger side air bag sensor indicated that the air bag was off. The dealer stated that the passenger seat sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v428000 (air bags), NHTSA campaign number: 14v348000 (air bags), and NHTSA campaign number: 13v564000 (air bags). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 109,000.
Tuesday September 9, 2014 I was driving down the hwy 92 when all of a sudden I here a loud thunderous explosion. As I checked my surroundings I thought I was in the middle of a car accident, so I took my foot off the gas and coasted to the side. As I looked around my side airbag curtains on both side were deployed as well as my driver side door air bag. I get out of my car and inspect the car and nothing visibly was damaged. I look down the road and nothing was there, cars were flowing as normal and not a pot hole in sight. Called BMW and found that BMW had has a recall on certain models including mine.
Takata recall: driver side air bag. We have received 2 notices of defective air bags September 2014 and may 2015. We had the passenger replaced but have waited on the drivers side for over a year. I have been told buy one maintenance supervisor that if we didn't feel safe don't drive it. I have also been told we can have it disconnected. I just want the problem fixed and my wife to be able to drive her car safely. Right now her life is in danger every time she drives her car. Can you help us with this issue?.

On Friday, may 16th, 2014, while driving alone approx 40 mph on a city street, I hit a pothole on the right side of the road. I immediately heard a loud noise when my wheel hit the pothole and at the same time an extremely loud 'pop'. The door side airbag hit my arm and the plastic covering from the curtain airbag above the driver's side window hit the side of my face but I was not injured. I smelled a 'smokey' smell and my car immediately shut itself off. I have hit potholes on rare occasions when I can't avoid them, but I would never have expected my airbag to deploy. This is a safety concern, and a costly one for the consumer, because I was not in an collision and the impact of the pothole should not have caused my airbags to deploy.

Passenger side air bag error consistent with front passenger seat pressure mat recall notice. BMW online recall check revealed that this vehicle identification number was not included in the recall.
Vehicle airbag warning and passenger seatbelt warning lamp are displayed simulataneously with passenger "airbag off" lamp illuminated. As a result, front passenger side airbag is disabled in case of a crash. BMW has issued a partial recall on other models (NHTSA campaign 13v-564) citing a defect with regards to the seat occupancy sensor mat but will not honor a recall on this particular vehicle, which is clearly affected by the issue. Without repair a crash may very well result in undue physical harm to a passenger.

Every time I crank my car I get passenger side airbag failure warning.

Vehicle was hit by another driver running a red light. The other driver centered on the driver's side front wheel but damaged the driver's side door and windshield. The driver's door airbag deployed. The driver's side airbag partially deployed. We could see hit hanging from the rear pillar to the front pillar but it was still tubular shaped and did not prevent the driver from hitting her head on the side of the car. The car was totaled. The front panel was compressed all the way to the engine compartment.

I own a 2006 BMW 330i 6cylinder engine. My car has 68k miles and has developed a problem iwth the passenger side air bag sensor causing a malfunction. Although this vehicle has been listed as having this problem, BMW denies my particular VIN was included in the recall and wants to make me responsible. There are tons of 2006 BMW 330i owners with the same issue listed on this site who's safety is in jeopardy. Please make BMW responsible to make our cars safe.
The incident occurred just after merging onto the inner-loop 495 north-bound from west-bound highway 50, between highway 50 and 66, in fairfax, virginia. During the merge, I accelerated my vehicle to equal to the speed of traffic while maintaining my position in the on/off-lane used for the 50/60 merger. Because I was continuing north-bound on 495 towards tyson's corner, I started procedures to exit the 66 on-lane and merge into north-bound 495 traffic. These procedures included checking both my side and rear-view mirrors as well as my blind spots. Needless to say, during the procedures my eyes were routinely forward to check on forward traffic. Between my mirror and blind spot checks, I noticed that I was quickly approaching a massive pothole that laid directly in the path of my forward progression. I estimate the pothole size being two feet in length, one foot in width, and one foot in depth (I have pictures). Although I attempted to avoid the pothole, at around 60mph, in the rain, with a guard rail to my right and traffic to my left, there was very little I could do to avoid it without risking my life, my passenger's life, and lives of fellow commuters. I hit the pothole. The impact was so sever it not only bent my front, passenger's side wheel and ripped a quarter-size gaping hole in my tire, it deployed all my passenger's side airbags and possibly ruined my suspension. At the time of impact, my passenger was leaning against the arm-rests and the window directly on the airbag deployment path. His arm, face, and hearing were injured during the incident. I allowed the car to slow down to safe speeds by releasing the accelerator. Once at safe speeds, I continued to an emergency exit pullout where I awaited police and a towing vehicle. After speaking with the police, a vdot emergency vehicle pulled up and offered assistance. He later informed me that the pothole had been previously addressed and should have fixed well before the time of my incident.
The side impact air bag deployed for what seemed like no apparent reason while driving home from work on Feb 14th 2010 at approximately 2320 hours. I managed to keep the car under control and made it to the side of the road. I inspected the vehicle and nothing struck it and there was no tire damage. I restarted the car and drove home and contacted BMW north America about the problem and they said they were going to cover the oct of the repairs even though the vehicle is out of warranty.
