Water pump failure the water pump on my car has now failed twice. It failed in September of 2013 and I paid the dealer to replace it with a new one. It has now failed again. The car has 84,000 miles on it. There is no way water pumps should fail twice.

Vehicle in straight, forward motion at highway speed (approx. 60mph) and engine power is reduced dramatically. Reaching a safe resting area posed significant risk due to lack of warning or descriptive vehicle fault. Smoke and/or steam emitting from engine compartment. Cause appears to be faulty electric water pump at 56,000 miles/5 years in service. Second occurrence.

Coolant / water pump has failed at 57,000 miles. The pump seized, which caused the engine to overheat and shut off at highway speeds. A water pump should not fail at such an early age. Internet searches indicate this is a common problem on 3-series (extremely early failure of the water pump). This is unacceptable.
I was driving and just got of the freeway, the car was still on but would not move due to bad water pump this was extremely dangerous if I was on the freeway it would have just stopped in the middle of traffic. $1350 to fix. This car is the biggest pieace of junk they are making them very poorly, I 2 years ive replaced about 20 tires on the run flat, water pump, fuel pump (through recall) some battery cable (through recall) one othe the turbos, and fuel injectors.

The contact owns a 2008 BMW 335i. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 70 mph, the message displayed the engine over heating warning. As a result, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the water pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
Why driving my vehicle, I received a yellow warning followed immediately by a red warning. While trying to understand the issue the car began to lose power, causing unsafe highway handling. Once I was able to get over, it was determined that the car was overheating. The water pump failed rendering the car disabled. I have driven quite a few cars and have never seen a water pump disable the car so quickly and create a dangerous condition. Upon doing some research, talking to repair mechanics this problem appears to happen all too often in Bmws.
My vehicle displayed a yellow warning that the engine temperature was high, and that the car needed to be driven at moderate speeds because the engine was close to overheating. I decreased my speed from 30mph to 20 mph, and about 30 seconds after driving the car at 25mph a red warning light came on that said my engine was too hot, and the car stalled on me. I received no prior warning regarding an overheating issue. Luckily I was not on a highway and was able to pull to the side of the road. I got my vehicle towed and I was told by the shop that the water pump failed, and that I needed a new thermostat.

The contact owns a 2008 BMW 335xi. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic. The contact stated that the computer was reset and the spark plugs and water pump were replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
Car went into limp mode due to excessive engine temperature detected. Cause of engine overheating was a faulty electric water pump. Dealer replaced the water pump and thermostat.
I have owned this 2007 335i for 2 1/2 years. I am a 59 year old female that drives very conservatively. In the 2 1/2 years that I have owned this vehicle, the fuel pump has been replaced twice. Four months ago the injectors had to be replaced and this past Friday the electronic water pump and electronic thermostat had to be replaced. Not typical of any BMW I have owned in the past 12-15 years. I contacted our local BMW dealership and they knew of no problems with this particular model. I contacted BMW today regarding this model and they took the information for review which to me means file 13. BMW knows there is a problem with the water pumps and the thermostats on this particular model and they choose to do nothing about it. They also know there is a problem with the injectors and they choose to do nothing. I was told that the NHTSA makes the determination on all recalls not the individual car makers.
I picked up my car from the dealer after replacement of the electric water pump. I drove home and parked the vehicle. 4 hours later my neighbor alerted me to an engine compartment fire that completely destroyed the vehicle.
Noticed the water coolant light come on. After taking it to BMW, they said the water pump was leaking. Wanted to replace it for a nice piece of change. Poor part design. They should have a recall on the pump.
Water pump failed while driving and car would not exceed 5mph. Postings online show this is a common issue (possible recall issue like the fuel pump). Car was towed to the dealer and water pump was replaced for $1033.
