While driving about 60–65 mph westbound on NY route 17 near exit 125, a warning message appeared on the dashboard reading “restart engine. ” within seconds the vehicle lost all propulsion, steering assist, and braking power. Pressing the accelerator did nothing and the car began rapidly decelerating in live highway traffic at night. I struggled to steer into the shoulder with great effort because the steering and brakes had become extremely heavy. Once stopped, the engine would not restart — there was no crank and no response when pressing the start button. The vehicle was later towed to the dealership for inspection. This failure occurred without any prior warning other than the single “restart engine” message that flashed moments before the loss of power. There were no check-engine lights, alerts, or performance issues beforehand. Unity Chevrolet Cadillac confirmed that the engine had seized and replaced the entire engine assembly, starter, and battery under warranty. The vehicle remained out of service from August 7 to August 22 2025. This sudden failure created a severe safety hazard — a complete loss of propulsion, steering assist, and braking at highway speed could easily have resulted in a high-speed collision.

On August 5, while driving on I-79 at 78 mph, our Escalade suddenly and completely shut off. The entire system failed — no power, no control — while our three children were in the car. This is the second gm vehicle we’ve owned to do this. Our previous yukon denali also shut off twice at highway speeds before we got rid of it out of fear for our safety. We reached out about the Escalade recall and were assured two months ago that our vehicle was not affected. Clearly, that assurance was wrong — and we’re now reliving the exact same terrifying situation with yet another gm vehicle. My kids are traumatized and refuse to get back in the car. At this point, thank god there is no incident, I would like to keep it that way and would like to have an immediate resolution of possible switching from our 2023 model to a comparable 2025 and be reassured that it does not have these mechanical defects with no additional costs incurred on my part.

My situation demonstrates that vehicles outside the listed VIN range are experiencing the exact same defect, yet gm/Cadillac is refusing to extend the recall coverage. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate whether gm/Cadillac is improperly limiting recall coverage and failing to include all affected vehicles, leaving consumers with significant expenses and lengthy repair times for a defect the manufacturer already acknowledged. The engine was replaced. The paperwork that I received says "large amounts of metal debris in oil. Drained engine oil and found oil to appear silver not brown/black. Suspect major internal failure not allowing engine rotation. Engine requires replacement due to extent of oil contamination with metal debris. I now need to use 0w20 oil. I feel like this isn't solving the problem and I don't feel safe driving this vehicle.

On juy7, 2025 while operating my 2018 Cadillac Escalade, which at the time of the incident had an odometer reading of approximately 57,600 miles. Felt an immediate loss of power (inability to accelerate efficiently) and shortly thereafter the amber check engine light flashed on and off and I could hear ticking coming from the engine. Following the aforementioned ,I had th vehicle towed to turnersville Cadillac in turnersville ,NJ for evaluation. Upon the vehicle being evaluated I was advised by service mechanics there that I needed a new engine and that the cost would be approximately $17,500 dollars. The cause of this catastrophic engine failure was attributed to lifters failing. Prior to this catastrophic mechanical failure, there were no warning lights or tapping noises and the vehicle was operating normally.

General motors issued a recall on various 2021-2024 tahoes and Escalades with 6. 2l v8 engines. Since issuing the recall, they have given no information and my Escalade has been sitting at the dealership for months with not eta of the engine and parts needed ti fix the vehicle. Gm is dragging this out slow and methodically!.

I was sitting in a drive through when the car just stopped running. I could not get it to restart. Engine light had come on and gone off a few times. I had it towed to a firestone next door , they advised it needed to go to dealership for engine recall. I was driving on the expressway going 75mph in the middle lane when the vehicle said “press start button” and lost all propulsion. I started slowing down rapidly and was unable to get to the right lane as there were vehicles so I merged to the left lane and came to a stop narrowly missed by a speeding driver. The vehicle would not turn back on. I was in the left lane around 2:30pm with rush hour beginning. I did not feel safe waiting for a tow truck so was picked up by a coworker.

Engine started making strange noises and I had to pull over due to it not driving correctly. I was stranded two hours from home. There were no warning lights. I have a video of the noise it was making. Upon getting it towed back to a local mechanic I was told I have the 6. 2 gm engine that has been recalled on other vehicles. I found out that the lifters and cam shaft were bad along with the bearings in my engine. I also had to replace the timing chain. My vehicle only has less than 170,000 miles on it. The car was serviced regularly. A local mechanic has already repaired the problem.

I was traveling on the interstate with no problems, then my vehicle lost power and I smelled smoke. I pulled into a gas station to see what the problem was. It appeared the starter had went out. I got it towed to a mechanic shop and it was determined another engine is needed. There is a recall on these engines from the year 2021 thru 2024. This year needs to be included due to the same issues as the newer engines.

I was on the highway with my family going about 60 mph and my vehicle shut completely off on the interstate. We were almost rearend by a tractor trailer. It did not crank back up either. My 2019 Cadillac Escalade has the same current issues as the 2021 - 2024 6. 2 engines that are being recalled right now.

Currently under an open, incomplete safety recall (gm program #n252494000 / NHTSA 25v274) for the l87 engine defect that can cause catastrophic engine failure and complete loss of propulsion.

While traveling 65 mph on a highway the car turned itself off and shifted into neutral. I was able to make it to the side of the road nearly avoiding a high speed accident. The car was placed in park and restarted. Less than five minutes later it did the exact same thing again. This time forcing me to come to a complete stop on a highway in a construction zone. The vehicle is only a few months old with 9k miles on it.

Widely known problem with the 2017 Escalade motor with the active fuel management system. Driving in a very remote part of wisconsin when engine light went on, indicating a lifter failure due to the afv shutting down cylinders. This is an extremly common problem with this engine/feature. I was left stranded with my family and a costly repair. (5k).

I was driving my 2022 Cadillac Escalade when suddenly the engine shut off. Lost the ability to drive forward and steering became hard. I was close to being rear-ended as I was on the highway. Towed it to the dealer who said engine seized. Installed new engine after a month of waiting and the vehicle doesn't run right. It has a rough idle. Dealer installed incorrect oil as replacement engines were supposed to retain original oil of 0w-20. Had to make numerous trips to the dealer due to low coolant, wrong oil on a new engine and rough idle. Dealer says its fine. $100k vehicle with a rough idle is a joke!.

My vehicle was recalled under n252494002 l87 engine loss of propulsion. The car was taken to the dealership June 19, 2025 and determined to require a engine replacement. The dealer has had the vehicle for a month without repair of the vehicle. This seems like an unreasonable time to replace the engine.

On 18 June 2025, I was on i95 driving highway speeds and the engine shut down and transmission shifted to n. I was able to coast to a left shoulder (we were in a construction zone so right shoulder was blocked off). Alert on digital dash said to press start engine again. . . Nothing. I tried a second time and the vehicle started. I was able to drive about . 5 miles and the engine shut off again and it shifted to neutral. I was able to coast to the right shoulder this time. Engine would not restart. Vehicle was towed to Cadillac dealership on 501 in myrtle beach, SC. I was notified about a month ago about a recall. I went into the dealer the next day and they confirmed my vehicle had a recall for potential loss of propulsion. I asked how to get it fixed and they said I would have to wait until they had a way to fix it and I would be notified. I had one warning lamp about the supercruise no longer working and to see owners manual. No other warnings.

Engine noise loud knocking feels like engine is going to stall, had in service 6-9-25 for 3 days technician heard noise stated could be related to recall but no fix available at this time electrical glitch radio navigation shuts off during while driving screen dash goes dark.

Was traveling on a busy interstate and vehicle check engine light came on flashing and stability system light as well. Existed next off ramp and when the car started slowing down the engine shut off. Was able to get to a safe location and car would not start. Had it towed to the dealership and they stated engine failure.

Waiting months on inspection had an appointment called and verified that was the appointment was for inspection . Took care of in and was told not opened. That was in July. The value of car has dropped because of this issue and can’t trade in or loss a ton.

All Cadillac dealerships are refusing to inspect the vehicle to ensure engine is safe despite specific instruction in recall that dealership will and determine if vehicle is affected. If not affected they will change oil viscosity. Dealerships are refusing to perform this test and change oil.

At 86,000 miles my 6. 2 engine had to be rebuilt. Costing $14,000.
