2000 chevy Blazer VIN[xxx] with automatic trans type 4l60e. Reaction shell stripped & system contminated. With resulting loss of reverse gear & 3rd gear. $3000 to fix. Talked with several shops & this is a very common problem. Sounds like manufacture defect of reaction shell not strong enough & teeth stripping off. Wrote to chevy for reimbursement but was refused. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Transmission reverse gear failed. Needs a complete teardown and rebuild. Cost to rebuild was between $1400 to $1600.

My 2001 chevy Blazer changes from 2wh to 4 wheel drive automatically while the vehicle is moving. This isn't the first time this has happened. I was able to get my car off of the road safely and change it back into 2wh, but it kept switching back into 4 wheel drive. There is evidently a defect.

My 2002 chevy Blazer will no longer shift into 4-wheel drive. It has been this way for over a year now, and chevy won't even acknowledge my communications about it.

We bought a 2003 chevy Blazer in July 2006 with 18,700 miles. When in cruise control at highway speed, the transmission will downshift into 2nd gear instead of 3rd gear to maintain speed up a slight incline. This has happened numerous times since purchase.

Normal driving , hard shifting, eventual transmission burn up. If caught in time simple repair for about 300 if you can find shop that will do it. I left alone. Transmission will burn up and depending on vehicle, 1500 to 2700. Hundreds of thousands vehicles are affected.

My friends borrowed my vehicle, a 2001 chevy Blazer, and went camping in the mountains. The vehicle was parked at a location that could have been very dangerous due to this failure, it was near a creek bank with a drop of approximately 30 feet. When the vehicle was started and put into reverse all it would do is coast forward which could have been very dangerous if they did not react in time as it could have went over a cliff. Fortunately they were in an area where there was a pay phone. They were staying at a state park and there are many areas that are very remote and are several miles away from phones or people. I was advised by aamco transmission that they see this transmission problem on a regular basis and it is caused because the reaction sun shell was made of an inferior metal and even in repair technical bulletins it specifies to repair problem by replacing with a "more robust heat treated reaction sun shell". When this occurs, it also affects second and fourth gears. In order to repair this problem the transmission needed completely rebuilt at a price of $2,326. 38 plus a towing bill.

I purchased a 1999 Chevrolet s10 Blazer in March 2002. Since then, I have replaced a front end, a rear end and a transmission. Now I have to replace the rear end again. I have 143000 miles on this vehicle and I am not happy with it all. I would like something done by gm in regards to my plight. I have had gm cars most of my life and never had one as bad as this. I am ready to go to a foreign vehicle. This is undoubtedly the worst vehicle I have ever owned.

While driving, engine cut out. Unable to drive except in third gear despite being automatic transmission. Otherwise, engine cuts out.

I have a 2000 chevy Blazer on December 16, 2005 the transmission went out. It only has 70,000 miles on it. When I went online to see if I could find a transmission for it, all I found was several websites that complained about the 2000 chevy Blazer transmission and all the problems it was having.

I brought the vehicle on October 04, 2005. I have many problems with this vehicle. I don't even know what to do anymore. I have contacted the dealership plenty of times but they are no help at all. The vehicle has a transmission problem. I have taken I it to the mechanic but they haven't been any help either. For that reason I want to cancel the purchase of the vehicle.

Drove from ohio to florida, 1040 miles. 250 miles into the trip, my console became extremely hot. The side of the console touches the drivers seat and it was making my seat very hot. The items inside my console melted, the hand wash burnt my hand when I took it out to use it. Now the console is getting hot only after 50 miles and sometimes less than that. Also, the cd player gets hot. The cd's occasionally become so hot that I drop them when they get spit out by the player by itself. I have no idea what the problem is and I am worried my Blazer may catch fire or blow up. Also, at times when I start up again from a red light, the transmission sounds so loud like it is working very hard to get moving. I know these things are not normal. Am I safe driving my Blazer? I bought it brand new in 2002. Now I am afraid of it.

No warning signs. Just put my 2002 Blazer in reverse, heard a loud pop. Wasn't sure what happened, so I got out on the road and couldn't accelerate fast enough up a hill and almost got rearended by a car going 60-65 mph. Pulled over and finally figured out that it wouldn't shift out of 2nd and I had no reverse. Called local chevy dealer and he immediately knew what had broken. (something called the sun shell casing or sun gear, I think). I only have 50k miles on that car and now have been told they wont just replace the part, they have to replace the entire tranny.

I was driving down the road when my car made a pop sound and would not accelerate. I pulled into a gas station and went to leave and had no reverse. Hard to shift from 1st to 2nd. The car only has 72000 miles on it.

I was driving to work when all of a sudden a heard a loud pop. Then my vehicle would not accelerate. I got to work and my vehicle would not go in reverse. I call my mechanic and had my vehicle towed. It was my transmission that went and it only has 50k miles on it. It cost me 1,400 for the transmission,84. 00 for the tow and 102. 00 for the rental.

While driving automatic transmission doesn't shift properly from the first to the second gear. Also, reverse is not working any more. Dealer was notified.

While driving consumer noticed that engine indicator light illuminated, followed by the vehicle jerking and engine slipping. Transmission has been repaired three times, but problem recurred.

I own a 2000 chevy Blazer. In the past 3 months I have noticed hard shifting between 1st and 2nd gear after long trips on the interstate(happened 3 times). The service engine soon light came on and I took it to bill heard Chevrolet. Code error 1870 was recorded. It was a valve body assembly malfunction that caused my transmission to have to be replaced after only 67,000 miles.

I am the owner of a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer (59000 miles) and one day I was driving down the interstate and my check engine light came on. After comming to a stop, my vehicle started having problems switching into 2nd gear. When I got home the truck was fine. Then a few days later it happened again and with no warning I could no longer go into reverse. I took my vehicle to a couple of shops and have been told by each one the the transmissions in these vehicles are known to have this problem. I no longer have a warrenty and it is going to cost me over $2,000 to have it fixed. After reviewing similar reports on this site, I am bothered that there is nothing being done about this issue.

2003 Blazer LS 4x4, 29,000 miles, automatic transmission. We purchased this car in February 2004 with 21,000 miles on it. It currently has 29,000 miles. Cruise control and transmission shift point we have owned this Blazer for 5 months. Immediately we noticed that when the Blazer has the cruise control engaged, frequently when travelling at highway speeds, and the cruise control wants to downshift to third gear it will instead shift into 2nd gear. The downshift red-lines the engine to 5000 rpm. It has downshifted from 4th gear to 2nd gear around two dozen times in 7,000 miles. And recently it has downshifted to 2nd gear when the Blazer was not on cruise control -- just when the driver is driving up a slight incline. Soon after purchase of the car we returned it to champion Chevrolet in reno, nevada, to have them fix this problem. They could not make the transmission downshift from 4th to 2nd gear. Since the warranty expires at 30,000 miles, we again took it to champion Chevrolet, to have them fix the downshift problem. Service advisor chuck brown told us that the car was road tested and operates normally. He also explained that the over-rev situation is normal. We had a 1995 Blazer which we owned and loved for 8 years and 200,000 miles and never experienced any type of downshift problem. We feel this situation is dangerous. For instance, we are driving along on cruise control on an interstate highway going 60-70 mph. The Blazer tries to maintain its cruising speed while going up a very gradual hill. All of a sudden the car downshifts to 2nd gear, the rpm revs up to 4500-5000. Immediately the driver has to unexpectedly turn off the cruise control while driving in heavy traffic. If this happens when going around a corner passing a truck, the "shock" by the driver trying to correct the situation could cause an accident. The "incident date" below is only a estimate as to the first time this happened.

Transmission problems with only 52,237 miles on vehicle. Chevy basically says it's not their problem until a recall is issued. Three local garages in our area all report the same thing to us. . . The transmissions are junk!.

I bought this Blazer 5 months ago and it only has 77,000 miles on it. I took my inlaws to the airport on Saturday morning, 11/29/03, and the transmission went out, no reverse, only 1st and 2nd gear works. I am told by 3 different transmission shops that this is a common problem with this transmission. This is not right, why wasn't this been recalled?.

Transmission is bucking, shifting hard thru gears while driving. Service light dosn't want to go out.

Intermittently, while parking the vehicle on a slight incline, the vehicle engaged from park to reverse and surges. The dealer has inspected and found nothing wrong. The owner was scheduled to receive two hours driving class.

The maximum speed while driving this vehicle is 40 mph, also vehicle wont engage in reverse. Dealer not notified yet.

This was not the first time I had a problem with the transmission in this car. Earlier in the year I put it in the shop because it seemed to be falling out of overdrive. It was repaired and I had two months of incident-free driving. We went on a weekend trip. After I stopped and restarted the car, I noticed my clock reset itself. Two hours into the trip, the car started jerking in and out of gear. We drove two hours back to the dealership where they found a computer wire was disconnected. Two hours later, the car starts slipping in and out of overdrive again. It would run in 3rd gear, we were close enough to our destination, we continued on in 3rd gear. When I got back home, I dropped the car off at the dealership and told them to fix it. I was without my vehicle the majority of the following 6 week period. I was driving on the interstate in the rain, there was a fatal accident, I slowed down & turned on my flashers, I had no tail lights, flashers, etc. I had already had the multi-function switch replaced shortly after I bought the car because someone almost rear-ended me. The engineer from Chevrolet came down and could find no cause for my transmission problem and offered $1500 trade allowance, which leaves me stuck with another Chevrolet and a higher car payment. In addition to the transmission problem, one of my tires was worn out after 30,000 miles, the 2nd one 15,000 miles and an alignment later. After only 45,000 miles the wheel bearing on the front drivers side was shot, the same side the tires were going bald on.
