1 Transmission Noise problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 12/28/2013

Got into the vehicle in the morning and when I placed it into reverse I heard a loud shattering noise and the car would not back up. I had it towed to the transmission shop and they reported that the "sun" gear had shattered with a repair cost of 2300. 00. They also told me that this is a very common problem with gm transmissions due to a weak gear from the manufacturer. After researching it on line I am finding many other people with the same problem. The gm customer rep was very short and stated that the car was out of warranty and I have no claim. If this was a known ongoing problem gm could have recalled these vehicles and saved a lot of grief for their customers. I feel that I should be reimbursed some of the expense of this known defect.

3 Transmission Noise problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 07/18/2004

On the way back from a weekend camping trip we stopped for lunch. When we returned to the vehicle to leave there was a grinding noise and then a whirling noise and the reverse gear went out on the transmission. When we got home and I called around I found that this was a common problem with this vehicle.

4 Transmission Noise problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 07/05/2004

We purchased our Blazer new. At 23,000 miles we heard a clunk noise in the transmission when we put it in reverse, but the vehicle appeared to be fine. Since the vehicle was still under warranty I took the Blazer to the dealership and had them look to ensure there were no problems. They couldn't find anything and said it was still under warranty, if something were to cracked and break it would still be covered. The transmission broke at 55000 miles, 2nd, 4th & reverse didn't work. The dealership wasn't interested in fixing it under warranty because it was beyond the 3/36 warranty coverage. I spoke with several local independent garages getting estimates and everyone said Chevrolet has had all kinds of problems due to a broken internal gear. I paid $2,000 to get it fixed. Since doing so I've talked to countless Blazer owners and the majority have had the same problem. One other problem we recently experienced was the front right wheel bearing going bad. My investiagtions have concluded that is another known defect gm has and are unwilling to fix. Is there someone at gm who is willing to assist in compensation for my costly transmission fix? everyone I've contacted are not interested in helping the consumer with a problem that happens without warning and left my wife in the middle of the road. Working in the automitive industry and a supplier to both gm and Ford, I understand the liability automakers have in addressing known problems, especially problems like this that could happen without warning and result in death. I encourage assistance on this matter from gm or NHTSA.

5 Transmission Noise problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 05/08/2004

My husband's was driving his 2000 chevy Blazer (52,000 mi) out of a parking lot when he heard a bump and his transmission fell out of gear, from then on the car would not go in reverse. We spent $2,200. 00 for a new transmission. A year I am driving my 1999 Chevrolet Blazer (56,000 mi. ) up hill on a one lane, (each way) curvyroad and I hear a bang and grinding noise and, surprise, no more reverse. Coincidence - I think not. We had to get out and stop traffic to try to manually turn the car around so we could drive back forwad. Very dangerous situation.

6 Transmission Noise problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 04/22/2004

Consumer heard a noise in the front of vehicle. Consumer stated he had been hearing it a little, but currently the noise became more pronounced. Consumer had already replaced the transmission once. The consumer had to fill the tires every week. The tires leaked air since purchase. The tire service dealer suggested that there was no leak and that corrosion built up on the wheels in which air escaped through the rim of tires. There was a thumping noise in the front end and seems like it happens worst on right turns, the left wheel bearing was loose in the hub bearing assembly, the hood hinges rattling excessive clearence, there was excessive slippage and the clutch burnt. (laredo tires).

7 Transmission Noise problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 01/15/2004

Transmission dropped out @44000 miles. 12/02 had to replace both front ball joints. Summer of '03 started making loud popping noises which came from front right area, it would pull unexpectedly to either side - mainly to the right and service 4wd light would come on. 10/03 had to have right front wheel bearing replaced. Could find nothing wrong with 4wd-don't know why light keeps coming on. Now 01/04, right front wheel bearing needs replaced again. I'm told part under warranty as long as I own vehicle cause gm has received so many complaints. What is gm doing to correct the root cause of this? I see I am not the only one with this problem. Thank god I have not had any accidents, but have had a few near misses because the it would "jerk instantly" and it caught me off guard. Does an accident / injury / fatality have to happen before corrective action is taken?.

8 Transmission Noise problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 07/26/2003

Driving within the city I heard a clack noise and a loud noise came from the transmission, after that I couldn't use the reverse, and first gear was longer than usual, this vehicle only has 42,000 miles. I have spoken with mechanics and friends and this is a manufacturer failure with this type of vehicle, my mechanic. Told me he has to fix so far about one of those brand vehicle per month, a friend told me he purchased a chevy Blazer and moving it from dealer he couldn't move vehicle, transmission was locked, I need the manufacturer fix my car immediately at no cost. Since I purchased vehicle took it twice because I was hearing a noise, but Chevrolet dealer said everything was fine, they couldn't fine any noise, but I heard that noise twice and a very loud and steady noice sometimes coming from the transmission after speeding in a traffic light (from red to green).

9 Transmission Noise problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 05/02/2002

Not long after I purchased my 2002 Blazer, I started noticing that at random times the motor would start racing when I started the engine. It ran very loud for a period of time and then would finally slow down. While driving the vehicle this would also happen. The rpms rapidly increase when accelerating, and it would make a loud roaring noise, but the vehicle doesn't go any faster. I took it in to the shop and was told this was normal, that it was the clutch fan. It is extremely hard to believe that this is normal for a new vehicle. I have had the Blazer since April of 2002 and it continues to do this and has sometimes put me in very unsafe positions. This problem seems to me to be more of a transmission problem than a fan. I have also had problems with the fuel gauge. It will show empty when it has plenty of gas. It has showed low on fuel, and then when I stop to get fuel, it will not take any gas. But then I have run out of gas right after trying to put some in the tank. The third problem is the left front door hinge. The pin continuously works out of position and it feels like the door is about to fall off and it doesn't close properly and I have to have the pin knocked back into position. Also, at the time I purchased the vehicle, it had a cassette player and the dealership agreed to install a cd player as part of the purchase agreement. The vehicle also had optional controls on the steering wheel. When they installed the cd player, the controls on the steering wheel no longer worked. When I asked them about this, they just said that this cd player could not be controlled from the steering wheel contols and left it at that. I think they should have installed one that could have functioned the same as the factory installed equipment.
