1 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 08/19/2008

This just started one day when we were coming back into town. The car has never been crashed. If you drive around town I drives fine but once you accelerate above 55 mph something causes the transmission to slip from 1st to 2nd gear. After about an hour the transmission will work fine. I know another person whose chevy Blazer did the same thing.

5 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 04/20/2004

I have had a problem with the transmission slipping and overheating in my 1998 chevy Blazer. I installed a transmission cooler hoping that would stop the problem, but it hasn't even touched the problem. I would like something none about the transmission problems in Blazers.

6 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 08/05/2003

P 1870 transmission slippage code. I have abrupt shifting between 1st and 2nd gears. Trips over 20 miles seems to aggrevate the situation. Occasionally after the 20 plus mile trip the transmission seems to wind up as the gas is applied and the vehicle doesn't respond with forward momentum.

8 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 01/23/2003

Transmission slips, 38kmiles on my 2000 Blazer, out of warranty. Took it to the dealer, the dealer's mechanic said he has replaced a valve on the transmission of four 2000 Blazers so far this year. I will make number five - quoted cost of $850. Service center will not cover under warranty. Read several reports about transmission issues similar to mine on 2000 Blazers and s-10s. Why no recall? if this is a known problem, why am I not coverred under extended warranty?!!.

11 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 08/15/2001

Transmission started failing at 25,000 in August 2001 on a 1997 Blazer. !st repair found transmission cooler clogged with blue plastic, mechanic thinks it was part of a plastic cap to cver ends of cooler assy before it was installed at the factory cost to replace cooler and service transmission $290 2 weeks later transmission problems came back - hits gears hard and when making right or left turn with out stopping and applying gas after turn transmission was slipping. Transmission shop torn down transmission foun rusty dip stick, alot of burn marks on various parts, screens clogged with dist substance, metal grindings in pan, valve assy rusty, replaced converter total cost $1717 drove vehicle 1 day problems started again (slipping) mechanic at his cost changed converter and checked his work found everything ok -results still slipping. Mechanic told me at my cost I need to replace the pump in the transmission said this is unusual to have to replace. Told me new punp for this vehicle was quoted to him at $800. I was so sick over this, stressed ouyt and could not sleep for nights decided to chance it at get a used xmission from junkjard and take the pump out $400. Mechanic did not charge me labor to put the pump in total bill = $2407 the transmission mechanic said in all the 25+ yrs rebuilding transmissions he never experenced any thing like this. This is a crime for gm to not do anything about these failures knowing so many people are having simulr problems in the Blazers.

12 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 06/29/2001

When first experienced we were coming home from hershey on a hot day when we came to a traffic light. When we proceeded the transmission shifted real hard into second gear causing us to jerk back as the truck jerked forward. This problem continued everytime we would come to a complete stop. We were able to make it to our mechanic and drop the Blazer of. The next day when the mechanic looked at the vehicle he could not detect any malfuctions. Approx. One week later we drove to new jersey, the truck was fine until we came to our first traffic light in ocean city NJ when the problem started again but this time the check engine light came on. When leaving NJ the problem started when we had to stop at our first toll, this time I pulled over let the Blazer rest for a while, then started back home and it was ok for awhile but then started acting up again so I pulled over and turned the truck of for about a minute and it was ok for a while again. I noticed that everytime it acted up and I pulled over that I just had to turn the vehicle off and turn it right back on and it would be ok for a while. When returning home our mechanic could now scan the service engine light and reported gear slippage. He talked to a transmission specialists who said this seems to happen on long hot trips, who suggested that this problem can last for years before the transmission would need to be replaced. Contacting aw golden they said they could not help us because the warranty had expired at 36000 miles and we had 41196miles. Contacting gm they said the same but if we would trade it in they would give us a 2000 dollar loyalty. We declined because we like the Blazer and would have liked them to give that money to fix the problem. Contacting bbbautoline they said they couldn't help us. We just came from phila. And the problem occured again to and from. Checking the internet we noticed several problems with gm transmissions and decided to contact NHTSA.

13 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 05/12/2001

The transmission had a slip. The valve inside the transmission is too small and pressure builds up when it gets hot and dirty. I had the vehicle in at 35k with the problem. They didn't replace the valve, only cleaned it. Then at 68k, they said they would have to tear the tranny apart and replace the valve. They wanted $1200, I found a tranny specialist who fixed it for $250. He said the original vavle was the problem. I have found hundreds of Blazer owners with this problem and chevy is making us pay for their problems.

14 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 08/30/2000

Vehicle's trans started slipping at 45mph. When stopped, I found out I had no reverse with all other forward gears slipping to where it is undriveable. Vehicle has high highway mileage, rarely was the 4 wheel drive used, and is on lease for $440 a month for another year. I know a few other people who have experienced the same transmission problems on newer Blazers with lower milage (still under warranty) that were repaired. It seems odd that the same problem occured to a few people I talked to, and makes me wonder how many more problem transes are out there. What should I do???.

15 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 02/22/2000

While at a dead stop consumer can hear chattering and vibration. Then it's fine. Took to a mechanic who said the driveline is vibrating up and down, and transmission is slipping.

16 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 08/29/1999

Transmission slips from 2-wheel drive into 4-wheel drive. Took to car dealer at 31k+ miles. Told dip stick rusted. Transmission slipped on 3 occasions previously from 2 wheel to 4 wheel drive at speeds between 45 -55 mph. At dealer now with just over 52k miles and told transmission will probably be replaced, estimated cost $1800. Believe this occurs more frequently than reported and unsuspecting owner are shelling out excessive money for faulty transmissions.

17 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 07/10/1999

Engine check light comes on. Vehicle would lurch forward after shifting into 2nd gear. Been to dealer. Informed transmission needed to be rebuilt or replaced. Took to transmission shop & had it replaced w/rebuilt transmission which is slipping. Taking vehicle back to dealer.

18 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 1996 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 01/14/1999

Water has been entering windshield nozzle & dripped onto the dip stick for the transmission, causing the transmission to slip. When dip stick was checked, it was rusted & corroded. Had taken to dealer & was informed nothing was wrong.

19 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 04/09/1998

While driving engine check light was on and transmission was slipping. Took vehicle to the dealer, they checked vehicle, but engine check light was still on. Consumer has a warranty on the transmission and complained to dealer 9 months after the date of purchase about the service engine light illuminating. No reasonable explanation was given except probable gas cap. While having the oil changed consumer found out the light was for the power train. Consumer took vehicle to a transmission specialist who confirmed that there was a defective part in the transmission. Consumer was also informed that the transmission code proved that an after market part was used to replace the defective part previously.

20 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Blazer

I had puchased this vehicle new from an authorized dealer. Within a few months of purchase I had noticed that the gas mileage wasn't close to the estimated mpg which was 15 city and 17 highway. I was getting anywhere from 9. 4 mpg to 10. 5 mpg with average driving. I had also noticed the automatic transmission slipping. With these two major problems I had brought the vehicle back to the dealer from which I purchased the vehicle and reported the problems. They where no help. They insisted that it was the way that I was driving rather than the vehcile having defective parts. I am very unsatisfied with the product and the gm company. Dt.
