1 Brake Disc problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 11/21/2001

This vehicle is plagued with problems. Replaced both front & rear shocks at 51,800 miles at a cost of $342. 00. At 50,800 miles, replaced disc pads, disc brake shims and rear rotors at a cost of $290. 00 - rear brakes were completely rusted out. Four new tires at a cost of $440. 00 were put on this vehicle at 48,610 miles. I have had this vehicle aligned and tires balanced three times in ten months - one was a forced balance at a cost of $160. 00. The steering wheel is not straight and the vehicle's passenger side sits 1" to 1 1/2" lower than the driver's side. No one seems to be able to figure out what the problem is with this vehicle. Next repair is to adjust the torsion bar and re-align it to see if this fixes the problem. Every time I go over the slightest bump, the whole body of the vehicle shakes! it feels and sounds like the fenders and doors are going to fall off. I have owned this vehicle for 13 months, put 8,600 miles on it and have spent $2,385. 00 in repairs so far. I am not a happy person.

2 Brake Disc problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 08/07/2001

Rear rotors have areas which are missing pieces of surface area which reduce braking ability and prematurely or abnormally wear brake pads. I had an ase certified mechanic and a chevy dealerships mechanic look at the rotors and they both determined the rotors are made of poor quality steel. I contacted gm about this and they stated that due to driving habits and area (weather), and that the warranty is over they will help with technical support only. Before having the rotors checked I could tell they were poor quality. Could NHTSA investigate other rotor cases and check with gm concerning the strength and quality of all their rotors and drums?.

5 Brake Disc problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 08/15/2000

Dealership helped pay for a small portion of repair of both complaints. GMC did not offer any assistance whatsoever. Also replaced my brake pads for the 4th time at 43,000 mile. They are prematurely wearing more than likely because the calipers are locking up. Have had nothing but problems with this vehicle since it's purchase.

16 Brake Disc problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

At 14000 miles, the left front pad was so worn that it ate into the rotor. The brakes were then serviced by the dealer for free. After 7000 more miles the braking was so poor that I replaced the front pads and rotors myself. At 30000 miles, the brakes were fading so bad I had to have them serviced again but at a nearby dealer (and paid their service fee ). Now, they are starting to fade yet again, getting worse every day. After hearing in the news that gm has to pay for a sensor on vehicles before 97, I am telling you now that the investigation should not be over! I was talking to the service manager at a Chevrolet dealer and he flat out told me that the brake systems on all of gm's light truck s and t platforms without 4 wheel disk brakes were very poorly engineered. Every time I see a Blazer/jimmy or gm pickup I can't help but notice the overwhelming amount of brake dust on the front rims. I swear the rear drums are useless! I can't afford to keep fixing my trucks brakes every 10,000 miles.

17 Brake Disc problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Brake pads and rotors were prematurely wearing out, and have been replaced five times, cause unknown. Please give any further details.
