Chevrolet Blazer owners have reported 124 problems related to service brakes (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Chevrolet Blazer based on all problems reported for the Blazer.
My 2022 Chevrolet Blazer abruptly shut down all power for about five seconds while I was stopped at a red light. The vehicle restarted after I pressed the push-button ignition, but the dashboard displayed a brake system error warning with no explanation of the cause or instructions for next steps. No other warning lights preceded the shutdown. The vehicle appeared to resume normal operation after restart, but the brake system warning remained. This appears consistent with complaints filed by other 2022 Blazer owners describing simultaneous electrical and brake system failures.

I was driving and steering reduced drive with caution notification and brake assist notification came on and then engine light and the temp gage went to cold and stayed there. My steering stiffened up making it hard to steer. This is a known problem with the chevy Blazers and it had to do with the thermostat needing replaced.

While driving my 2024 Chevrolet Blazer ev, the vehicle suffered a sudden, complete failure of the power braking assist system. The failure was accompanied by a rapid cascade of three sequential dashboard warning messages in immediate succession: first warning: "service esc" illuminated alongside the "brake park" warning light. Second warning: "brake assist failure. Press hard to brake. Speed limited" illuminated with "brake park" remaining on. Third warning: "brake system failure. 62 mph top speed" illuminated with "brake park" remaining on. Immediately upon these warnings triggering, the power braking assist and emergency mechanical reserve failed completely. When pressing the brake pedal, the vehicle did not slow down, and the pedal failed to engage the brakes. To avoid a catastrophic intersection collision and bring the vehicle to a halt, I was forced to deliberately steer the vehicle into a concrete curb to use friction to stop the car. The vehicle is a total loss of braking safety and cannot be driven. Safety risk: the sudden loss of braking assist creates an immediate crash hazard, as stopping distances are severely multiplied. Limiting a vehicle to a maximum speed of 62 mph while experiencing zero brake assist on active roadways places the driver and surrounding traffic in extreme danger.

Intermittent electrical defects are beginning to occur that impact the power steering or power brakes. After starting the vehicle, there are times either the power steering or the power brakes do not function. When the braking defect occurs, the engine warning lamp is displayed and indicates brake system control module. Sudden switch to manual steering or manual braking are a safety hazard. A couple ignition recycles eventually corrects the electrical defect and restores the vehicle to normal operations. Vehicle has been dropped off at dealership for warranty repair.
I was driving down a road. Vehicle slammed on the brakes and then accelerated in it own causing me to hit a guardrail.

I am reporting a potential safety defect involving unintended automatic emergency braking/forward collision warning/brake-control behavior, reverse automatic braking, parking brake behavior, and driver-assistance/sensor calibration. Incident xxx ~11:15 am, [xxx] driving 2024 Chevrolet Blazer ev ~20–25 mph on/near [xxx]. Vehicle displayed red collision alert and abruptly braked hard although the lane was clear; only a car was parked in a driveway on the right. Sudden braking created serious risk of rear-end collision/loss of control. Vehicle used for family transportation; toddler (~30. 8 lb) had been in vehicle ~10 minutes before and family includes blind/visually impaired passenger. History of unwanted reverse emergency braking ~every 45 days: Jan 2026 near crust pizza woodforest (backing up) and March 2026 at h-e-b 7988 fm 1488 magnolia (backing out), jolting child in rear-facing car seat. Prior service at keating Chevrolet Nov 12, 2025 (including recall/service for unintended parking brake engagement n252503010 and missing chassis harness plugs update) did not resolve unwanted braking. After June 10, aeb/front pedestrian braking/intersection collision braking were disabled as temporary safety mitigation. Vehicle removed from daily family use, available for inspection, and I request NHTSA review. Any inspection should preserve relevant braking/parking/aeb/forward collision/sensor data before any reset/update/repair. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Blazer ev. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph and depressing the brake pedal to reduce speed, the vehicle failed to respond as intended and crashed into the rear end of a second vehicle at approximately 5 mph. Moments later, a third vehicle crashed into the rear of the contact's vehicle. The contact was not injured during the crash. The occupant of the third vehicle sustained an unknown injury. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed the residence and was later towed to a repair shop. The third vehicle was towed to an undisclosed location. The local dealer was not contacted. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was notified of failure. The failure mileage was 5,500.
Vehicle: 2020 Chevrolet Blazer issue: “shift to park” malfunction description: the vehicle repeatedly displays a “shift to park” warning message even when the gear selector is fully placed in park. Because of this issue, the vehicle does not always shut off properly and may continue running electrical systems after the engine is turned off. Symptoms include: * warning message stating “shift to park” * vehicle not recognizing that it is in park * difficulty shutting vehicle off completely * doors/horn behavior acting abnormally after exiting vehicle * concern about battery drain and vehicle safety the issue occurs intermittently but has become more frequent over time. The shifter often must be moved multiple times before the warning clears. This appears to be a widespread issue affecting many gm vehicles and may involve a defective shifter assembly or park switch component. I am concerned this defect could: * cause unexpected battery failure, * prevent the vehicle from shutting down properly, * create a safety risk if the vehicle does not correctly recognize park status.
This is now the second report from this vehicle with similar issues. This incident happened when in reverse with nothing behind me, the vehicle slammed on its brakes. No audible warning in the vehicle and nothing showing on the dashboard. The vehicle just applied emergency braking. This was a witnessed event.
The check engine light came on with a warning that said "steering assist reduced drive with care". The temperature gauge went to cold and the air condition quit working.
Went to park car in a park to drop daughter off and it sputtered out and stalled out of nowhere with no warning. I had received a lamp warning very sporadically prior to this and on occasion that stated 'reduced steering assist drive with care' this resulted in heavy steering for that drive until car was shut off and then it would go away and be fine again, fixed the car through knudtsen chevy due to a recall about a month before on the issue with the engine being turned off and it thinking it was still hot and still running the fan (even though the car was not running). Knudtsen fixed that issue. Low battery voltage light did not come on however battery was older so had battery installed at park to ensure the issue was not due to the battery. The oil was fresh and showed no issues, changed 2 weeks before fresh oil no issues found during service. When tried to restart the car it would think it would try to start and then sputter out and not stay in idle. Les schwab left and called a mobile mechanic to bring the computer. Computer was hooked up and it would try to start, however, it would not know it was already running and try to start again on it's own. . . The codes that came up were the po101 code came up for mass air flow issue. . . And then the codes would go in a wild sequence of fail. . . . . Mechanic checked for loose connections around air filter, took air filter out and it was clean no issues, checked pipe no visible issues. We walked away and walked around the park to give it some time to sit and then we tried it again and it tried and sputtered out and died again would not stay idling. Then all of a sudden we heard it try to start itself without us trying to start it and it clanked. We hauled it to knudtsen for a diagnosis. They stated "the motor will not turn this way or that way and it is seized or locked up". This is a 2021 with only 89,000 miles it should have a longer life than this. Please investigate and is there anything we can do to fix it?.

Last year I was heading to heading to [xxx] in xxx when I pushed on the brakes on my 2020 chevy Blazer my brakes were working but the steering wheel was shaking weird like I was hard on the brakes but I was tapping them slowly earlier this year right before I had transmission flush at fox chevy in caledonia I noticed before two weeks of bringing it in I was near a traffic light slowing down it went hard shift down and when I was not moving in notice it jerked forward when at idle and the light like it was rear ended I feel like this is a safety concern of that happening after the transmission flush for two months after doing the acceleration is slipping I feel like there should be a recall for torque and transmission recalls for the 2020 chevy Blazers I really love this Blazer owned for 4 years now I feel like it would be a safety for the public and nationwide information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Rear brake automatic parking brake motor locked rear wheels. Dealership diagnosed and repaired at my cost. Service parking brake light illuminated and rear brakes locked not allowing vehicle to be moved. After a few restarts brakes released.

The vehicle accelerated without input and the brakes failed to respond. I am notifying you that this vehicle is a life-threatening safety risk and should not be rented again until a master technician clears the electronic throttle control and breaking system. This condition presents a serious safety risk and could lead to a car crash or injury. Additionally, the vehicles, climate control system behaved erratically, alternating between extremely hot and extremely cold air without adjustment. This may indicate a broader electronic or system malfunction affecting vehicle city.
On two separate occasions the vehicle lost all power while driving. On December 5, 2025 turning on to a main road from parking lot the vehicle shut off with no prior warning lights. Shifted vehicle to park. No power to anything, unable to unlock doors, unable to turn on hazard flashers, stuck in the middle of the road at night. Waited a minute and pressed the start button and vehicle started with no problem. Again, on February 24 , 2026 making a left turn in intersection, without any warning the vehicle shut off… no power at all. Stuck in middle of road with no lights , no hazard flashers ,unable to get out of the car. Few minutes later vehicle started again. The vehicle did not stall while stopped, it completely lost power while moving. Reported problem to west herr Chevrolet of hamburg NY , brought vehicle in to dealership on February 25, 2026 and they were “unable to duplicate the concerns” the dealership paperwork states that the vehicle stalled while stopped, this vehicle lost all power while it was moving. We now have the vehicle back in our possession but are extremely concerned for our safety and the safety of others.
Chevy of wasilla, ak did not properly inspect a safety recall for the rear parking brake harness. After I showed the dealership the pictures of the holes in the brake harness, I was told that the holes in the brake harness is a feature to let water out. Pictures are attached of said holes in brake harness and text message with dealership representative.
On December 22, 2025, I purchased a brand-new Chevrolet Blazer ev ss from a dealership located approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes away from my home. Immediately after leaving the dealership lot, I noticed a grinding / grunting noise coming from the vehicle. This was not a minor rattle or normal “new car” sound—this was an alarming mechanical noise in a vehicle that had just been sold to me as new. Because the selling dealer is so far away, and because I was concerned about driving a potentially unsafe vehicle long distance, I took it to a closer Chevrolet dealer for evaluation. I first brought the vehicle to ciocca Chevrolet in west chester, PA. After assessing the issue, they advised me to open a ticket with general motors (gm) because they believed there was a legitimate defect that required gm involvement. Shortly after that, I left for the christmas holidays, but the issue did not go away and I remained extremely concerned that I had just bought a defective vehicle. When I returned, I took the Blazer ev to del Chevrolet in paoli, PA for a second opinion and a thorough evaluation. After keeping the car and spending an entire day assessing it, del Chevrolet acknowledged the problem. Despite two separate dealers identifying and acknowledging the issue, I have been unable to get timely action toward a repair. I have been told that gm is requiring additional testing and, most importantly, that gm is not authorizing del Chevrolet to order the necessary parts. The dealership has indicated they are essentially stuck waiting for gm approval, which means my brand-new vehicle is in limbo with no clear repair timeline. As of now, the vehicle has only about 140 miles on it. This is a brand-new car that developed a serious noise immediately upon delivery, and I have now been forced into a loaner vehicle. It is Jan 17th. The vehicle is still at del Chevrolet service center. Del Chevrolet, fred beans Chevrolet and gm corporate are involved in resolving this issue.
At a low speed, between 10 and 15 mph, the forward collision system automatically triggered and brought the car to an immediate stop. While we were lucky that no car was following behind us, the passenger and I experienced significant whiplash and lasting back pain as a result of this. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone, and not been reproduced. The forward collision system flashed (red warning light, alert).
We are noticing the coolant meter seems to be stuck on c, the ac is not blowing cold and we are getting a message that action required steering assist is reduced, drive with caution. Today the brakes slammed on by themselves and almost sent my wife thru the windshield. Luckily she was in a clear area with no other cars around.

The car due to the parking brake system recall lost control, the brakes would not stop and caused the vehicle to crash into 2 parked cars, landing on top of the 2nd vehicle which was a pick up truck.
On 10/29/25 I brought the vehicle in to richard lucas Chevrolet due to the alert from my insurance CO that there was a recall with parking brake system. The dealership checked the car and told me they had to order the part that was needed due to the recall. Prior I also made the dealer aware that the car had recently stalled on me in the middle of the street, I was told by the dealership that this was apart of the recall! the dealership allowed me to drive the car and stated to me that they would call me when the part comes in! 2 days later on 11/1/25 while driving the car lost control, the brakes wouldn't stop and I crashed into 2 parked cars and landed on top of the second parked car which was a pickup truck! all of the airbags deployed and my body is pretty messed up from this horrific crash and this has caused fear in me of driving!.
Incident description: while my wife was driving our 2022 chevy Blazer at approximately 40 miles per hour, the vehicle’s dashboard suddenly went dark and became unresponsive. Multiple warning lights illuminated simultaneously, including the check engine light, abs light, and other system alerts. The dashboard appeared to flicker as though it was repeatedly shutting down and restarting. When the brake pedal was applied, it offered no resistance and traveled completely to the floor without slowing the vehicle. To bring the vehicle to a stop, my wife shifted into neutral and allowed it to coast until it came to a complete stop. Fortunately, there were no intersections or other vehicles in front of her at the time, preventing a potential accident. This incident raises serious safety concerns, as both electrical and braking systems appeared to fail simultaneously.
Shift to park issue. Vehicle shifts into park but does not register as such. Therefore, the vehicle keeps running and will not turn off or allow you to exist the vehicle. This is already a know issue with certain gm vehicles as is evident by a recall and service bulletins. However, none of those include the 2020 chevy Blazer.
When I try to park the car, it says shift to park. Sometimes I can’t get the car to go into park to exit the vehicle or other times. I’ve shut the door and it has stayed on with the accessories because it won’t shut off.
1. Vehicle has a horrible squeaking sound coming from the brake pedal area. First dealer diagnosed it as the master cylinder needing replacement. Noise did not go away and gm said that it is normal. The noise is not normal and has never been on any other car I have owned. 2. When reversing, the car sometimes abruptly slams on the brakes as if it is avoiding a collision even though no collision is close to happening. Gm refuses to fix the problem.
Accelerating without pressing gas pedal and gas pedal won't release with braking. Brakes overheated and this went on 10 minutes before I got it to release the gas pedal so I could safely stop. I almost hit 4 vehicles on the interstate because the gas pedal went to the floor all the sudden.
Brake booster failed after 50k miles needing repair. Brake became very still, prolonging the time it takes to stop the vehicle.
My windshield is defected with no real time when a replacement can be ordered. . The interior lining is not sealed properly which is causing a buckling effect by drivers and passengers visors. . Rain is getting inside and soaking into the dashboard causing the electrical system on screens to blink in and out finally my brake harness is still on recall and my car has been shifting into park which could cause severe problems if I am on the highway. .
The contact's father owns a 2013 Chevrolet Blazer. The contact stated that while his father was driving at approximately 40 mph straight forward, the brake pedal was depressed, and it traveled to the floorboard. Then, the brake pedal was lifted, and the brake pedal traveled a second time to the floorboard. The vehicle did not slow down as intended, and the vehicle crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The air bag did not deploy, and no warning lights illuminated. The contact's father sustained a facial bruise. Medical attention was not needed. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a lot where it was pending an inspection from the insurance company. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 34,000.
The vehicle has engaged the brake on multiple occasions unexpectedly. This is related to the recent recall that gm announced and is unable to repair. I have made multiple attempts to reach gm through written mail, phone, x and the bbb and have not received a satisfactory resolution as the safety issue persists.
Car can spontaneously activate the parking park. Recall has been ongoing and chevy has yet to tell me how to repair it. They said risk for a severe accident is high.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Blazer. The contact stated that upon stopping at a red traffic light, the vehicle's auto start/stop system activated and turned the engine off. The warning message "brake system failure - esc- steering assistance reduced". The driver was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway and turn the vehicle off. Upon restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure recurred. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by the dealer or an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 121,000.
My name is [xxx] and I was a passenger in our 2021 chevy Blazer with our young child in the back seat when the brakes suddenly failed while we were driving on the freeway. The brake pedal went stiff and wouldn’t respond. It was terrifying — we truly felt like we were going to crash. I was panicked, and my child was crying. Since then, I’ve been too afraid to drive or ride in this vehicle, even if it gets repaired. This isn’t the first issue with the car, and gm has not resolved it in a timely or helpful way. The vehicle is currently at the dealership and we are paying for a rental car out of pocket. I’m reporting this because I believe this vehicle poses a serious safety risk to families like mine. I’m asking NHTSA to please investigate this issue before someone gets hurt. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
While driving my 2021 Chevrolet Blazer lt on the freeway with my wife and child, the “brake assist” warning came on and the brake pedal suddenly became extremely stiff. I was going about 65 mph, and it became difficult to slow down safely. We were terrified. This created a serious safety hazard, as I almost couldn’t stop in time and could have caused a crash or gotten someone killed. The check engine light came on as well. I had previously taken the vehicle in for a similar rattling or braking noise back in 2021 and was told it was “fine. ” now the issue seems to have gotten worse. I have since learned that other owners have reported similar brake assist issues on 2021 Chevrolet Blazers, and it appears there are service bulletins but no recall yet. I am extremely concerned that gm has not addressed this defect, especially since it happened without warning and endangered my family’s lives. I am requesting a full investigation into this issue and for gm to take full responsibility for the repair.
Brakes bottomed out. Message on my dash board said “brake system failure reduce speed to 62” and the brake went on the way to the floor.
