On Saturday, July 3, 2010 my 1999 chevy Blazer front and rear brakes failed due to excessive corrosion. Lucky no one was hurt. This is a major defect that must be addressed before someone gets killed.
1999 chevy Blazer zr2 (SUV) antilock brake system is failing at low speeds 7-10 mph? causing improper braking and pulling. Nothing done to correct yet - haven't found the cause. No crash yet. Read an article that gm was recalling 8000 vehicles up north due to this problem but I live in FL. And am having the same issue ???? no info found on line yet as to diagnosis or resolution of the problem other than just replacing the entire system $$$$.
On Friday October 20, 2006. My son and 3 friends were leaving a friends house. When my son applied his brake to slow, the brakes failed. When they failed the engine revved completely up, throttled out and shut down the vehicle. He of course had no brakes, but now no steering, and the engine was off. Not having any control, the vehicle hit a loose rock, slid into a ditch which then sent them into a series of rollovers no less than 5 no more then 7. The airbags did not deploy. When they landed 3 of the 4 doors were jammed shut. As they climb out of the vehicle, they noticed it was burning. It burned from behind the dash through the engine. I have pictures if you would like to see. The worst injury at the time was my son's shoulder, they were concerned it had a worse tear. Nothing can be done to fix this vehicle. I have notified chevy and gm. I am also talking to an attorney next week. The service brake hydraulic antilock recall has caused me concern. We don't know if it was ever taken for it's repair. Now gm can't even find or trace yet the VIN number. He had only had it 2 weeks when we had to put it in the shop because it had to be jumped to start. Then a week and a half almost 2 weeks later the brakes go out. Something major went wrong, and he hadn't even had it 30 days yet. It could have killed 4 kids. I want to know what malfunctioned.

The abs brakes engaged prematurely when the brake pedal was depressed. When this occurred the brakes failed to stop the vehicle immediately, resulting in extended stopping distance. The cause of this failure has yet to be determined, pending dealership inspection.
While driving 35 mph, the driver applied the brakes but the brakes failed. This caused the driver to collided with a vehicle while crossing an intersection. The vehicle was towed to the driver's home. The antilock brakes did not engage. The pedal was hard and the consumer could not slow down.

The brakes have been checked several times for this problem and I was told that there was nothing wrong, but it has caused 1 accident in wich I was cited and nearly caused 4 other accidents. The brakes have failed at least 5 other times in conditions that normal brakes wouldn't have had a problem. Dt.
The abs brake system had failed without any warninig or indecation, I had my mechanic check the system out and he foun tha the abs pump was malfunctioning. But it did not produce a fault code to the computer nor did the dash light come on. He also checked with other meckanic in the area and they also have had the same reports from their customers about the brakes failing. The quick fix is to disable the abs system and run the brakes in the manual mode. There seems to be a problem with (96-97 ) systems. The repair cost for abs range from 900. 00 to 1500. 00 dolllars to fix. At that price there probably a lot of people riding arounrd with the abs system desabled. I think this should have a top priority to be checked out. Had I needed the brakes in a real emergency or panic stop I don't think I would be writing this letter. Thank you for yor time in this matter john t nuttall 24 b street lowell,MA. 01851.
On 11/20/01 I pressed brake pedal to floor but my brakes failed causing my vehicle to bump a vehicle in front of me (bumped vehicle at very slow speed due to heavy stop and go traffic). I initially thought that my foot merely slipped off the brake pedal as after the incident my brakes worked properly. However, on the following day (11/21/01) my brakes failed a second time. I had to swerve onto the shoulder of the road in order to avoid an accident and was finally able to get my vehicle stopped. After a short period of time, my brakes were operational again. At that point, the vehicle was taken to the closest chevy dealership (heritage auto plaza in alexandria, va) where it remains as of 10:05 a. M. On 11/26/01.

Brake failure while driving at approx. 15-20 mph, you could push pedal to floor and not be able to stop vehicle. Had to have vehicle towed to garage, they determined that the hydraulic brake booster had failed. Had new booster installed and this took care of the problem.
Consumer contacted dealer in reference to recall number 99v193000/ manufacturer's recall 99041. Dealer corrected recall work. Consumer noted that after recall work was completed, and when attempting to make a normal stop or upon depressing brake pedal, brakes failed to respond, causing extended stopping distance. Consumer has had a fender bender due to the failure of the brakes, the dealer can not find any problems with the brake system.
This vehicle would not stop in a parking lot. The abs system activated, but brakes failed to stop the vehicle in a reasonable distance and time. This truck is scary to drive in the snow. It does not want to stop. Has there been any recall for the abs system on 1997 Blazers?.
Twice the brakes failed. Going down my driveway and approaching a stopsign. While holding down the brake, the pedal sunk to the floor. Took it in. Dealer did recall99041.
Vehicle experienced brake failure while traveling at approximately 20-25 mph. Dealership cannot determine reasons for defect. On Feb. 09, 2001, while traveling under wet conditions at 20 - 30 mph, vehicle experienced brake failure two more times. Please provide any additional information/attachments.
Traffic was stopped for road construction. Traffic began to move. Vehicle in front of me started and slammed on brakes when another pulled in front of her. I had to brake quickly - I heard a noise and my vehicle continued into hers without even slowing down. A recall had been serviced on 1/04/00. I feel that the abs brake system is a failure. I have had many such instances but luckily this was the first accident as a result of the brake failure.
Consumer was involved in an accident when the vehicle slid due to the brake failure, consumer received manufacturer's recall c99041-s (99v-193) after the incident occurred, consumer is requesting reimbursement.
On 12/22/99, my husband and I were involved in an auto accident. A woman two vehicles in front of us lost control, struck the concrete divider, flipped over & wound up upside down perpendicular in the road in our lane(left lane). Our brakes failed in our vehicle & as a result we struck the vehicle in front of us who was appearantly pushed into the overturned vehicle. Our vehicle was towed from the scene as we were taken to the hospital. My husband did not have an opportunity to advise the investigating officer of his brake failure. When the officer arrived at the hospital, he told my husband he did not want to hear what he had to say because the officer indicated he had 2 independent witnesses. The officer advised the witnesses stated the van in front of us had stopped with out striking the overturned vehicle, & therefore we too should have been able to stop. We saw the first vehicle lose control & had plenty of time to react with more than ample distance to stop. Had our brakes not have failed we would have been able to stop & there would not have been an accident. There has been a recall on 1995-1996 chev Blazers related to abs. Though our vehicle is a later model, I do believe our claim should be investigated. I have reported the claim to gm as well as our insurance CO. Please feel free to contact me so that I may answer any questions you may have. I look forward to hearing from you with any information &/or assistance you can provide. Thank you in advance for your time & attention in this matter.
While backing out of garage the brakes failed, and consumer had to use parking brake to stop. Took car to dealer ,and they said that the power brake booster did not work anymore, and that was cause why brakes failed to stop vehicle.
The brakes experienced failure causing brakes to feel very hard. Sound like air was coming from the brakes due to the abs system working intermittently.
Has no abs brakes due to crack along seam in module. This causes brakes to fail when needed. Been in touch with dealer/manufacturer. Informed different parts were changed in middle of production. The manufacturer & dealer will not repair due to no warranty. Was told should not have cracked.
Whenever brakes were applied in a sudden stop or emergency situation, it caused brakes to fail, and brake pedal would also pulsate. Dealer notified.
The first failure of the abs system occured about 1 week after I purchased the vehicle in January of 1999. My daughter was driving the car and tried to stop on the ice and snow to avoid hitting a stopped car in front of her and the braked failed to stop her and she hit a bus stop pole. I personally have had 2 more failures of the brakes going from ashphalt on to dirt and the brakes would only allow about 10% of the full peddle. I would like to know if there is any way I can collect damages from general motors to cover the repairs on the vehicle since the problem was obviously there f ault!!.
Abs brakes; when applying brakes while driving down a hill, the pedal went to the floor and brakes failed to stop the vehicle.
I received a recall notice from Chevrolet. I took the Blazer to century Chevrolet in broolfield colorado. They said my Blazer doesn't come under this recall. I have had 1 accident and 1 near accident because the brakes failed. What do I need to do to get this fixed short of a court battle?.
While driving and when applying the brakes in wet weather conditions brakes failed to operate properly.
Brakes failed.
When drivng at approximately various speeds abs brakes will engage, when going over a small bumps effects ability to stop, about 2 cars before coming to complete stop. While driving over a bump, brakes failed, vehicle lost control, resulting in a crash. Dealer says vehicle meets all the prescribed standards.
Brakes failed, causing accident.
Brake failure.
Failure of the anti- lock brakes, the front brakes grabbed, causing the vehicle to skid and the brake pedal went to the floor, resulting in an accident. Consumer has contacted the dealer on several occasions due to brake failure.
Poor abs brake performance during normal braking conditions, the pedal almost goes to the floor and complete brake failure is experienced.
Brakes almost totally failed. Pushed down on the abs, and there was a very long delay before the brakes picked up and started to work properly.
When applying the abs brakes under normal conditions or in a sudden stop, the pedal goes to the floor and the brakes fail to stop the vehicle. Please describe further details.
