Anti-lock brake problem I think- when vehicle is driven during a light dusting of snow and when applying brakes- vehicle will pull about 8-15 feet to the right and doesn't stop until it's done pulling you this distance. Now this seems to happen when it is wet out and doesn't happen everytime you brake. I recently was braking at a red light going about 15 miles an hours and began braking about 4 car lengths before the light and my Blazer did not stop until it turned the corner about 15 feet to the right. I was not trying to turn the corner the vehicle crossed over the corner sidewalk and landed around the corner. This is very scary while it is pulling you have no control over the steering wheel. I have taken it to the chevy dealer and am told that their equipment can't detect a problem. I also know other people this has happened to and after they disconnect the anti-lock brake system the problem subsides. I need to know how to correct this issue I do not want to be in an accident or cause one. The chevy dealer has no explanation on what to do he said he would think it is the anti-lock brake system but since the equipment doesn't indicate problem he can't see one. I inquired if this may be a problem with the traction/anti skid system he didn't have a clue . Charged me for looking at it and told me to be careful and if I kept having this problem to stop back again (even though they couldn't detect problem) I explained to him that I have owned this vehicle for a few years and over that time period it has happened about 15 times. Everytime it happens I think about trading it in but can't afford to and I shouldn't have to .

The abs gradually came on. When applying the brakes, the wheels lock up and the Blazer skids about a foot. I have had numerous near accidents because of the abs. I took the Blazer into the Chevrolet dealership and they ran the VIN. I was told that there are no recalls for my Blazer. However, according to the NHTSA website, there are two recalls (00v055000 & 99v220000). I would like to know whether or not there are any recalls.

Abs activates while braking at low speeds causing an increased stopping distance which has nearly resulted in hitting pedestrians or other vehicles. This happens several times daily.
Experience unwanted antilock brake system (abs) activation. Increased stopping distances during low-speed brake applications, which could result in a crash. I observed this same behavior on 1999 full sized Chevrolet trucks that were repaired under recall campaign number 05v379000.
: the contact stated while driving 5 mph and applying the brakes the abs activated. While the brakes were applied the brake pedal pulsated and there was a grinding nose coming from the front of the vehicle. When the abs activated the stopping distance was increased. There is a NHTSA recall, # 05v379000, regarding the service brakes, antilock. The vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the model and VIN.
: the contact stated the dash panel warning light illuminated indicating there was a lack of abs at 3mph while brake pressure was applied. Although the vehicle adequately stopped, there were no antilock brakes. The vehicle was seen by a dealer, but no repairs were made. There is a NHTSA recall, #05v379000, regarding the antilock brakes. The vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the VIN.

The abs seems to be activated even in slow stops and I lose complete control of stopping the vehicle. This happens randomly since I purchased the vehicle in July 2005. I had several near crashes. It acts up more when the road is slick. Several mechanics told me it was abs but they could not pinpoint the problem until now.

My abs brake system is experiencing the same symptoms as those in the recent recall. So far nothing has happened but do not want to have an accident occur due to the same recall problem. I do not want to pay to have it checked by the extreme high cost of a dealership. . . . .
While traveling at 25 mph on a wet roadway I approached a vehicle stopped at a stop light. At around 6 car lengths I applied my brakes and the vehicle would not stop, resulting in a rear end crash with the vehicle in front of me. When I applied the brakes the vehicle started to vibrate as if the abs brakes were activating. The braking system failed to provide much stopping power. The speed at the time of collision was about 15 mph, slowed from 25.

Live in TN, often travel to mi anti-lock brake pump would engage at 10 mph when braking in normal conditions. Same problem and solution as the vehicles in gm's current truck and SUV recall, but this is a 2000 Blazer.
When slowing to a stop, my abs system kicks in and allows the vehicle to roll farther than normal, usually happens under 10 m. P. H.
Consumer stated abs brakes were not working correctly. The abs was initializing at low speed stops. The problem was ongoing for 5-6 weeks. The consumer's mechanic indicated that the brakes were fine. The consumer found information on the internet about other complaints of the same nature. The abs would not stop the vehicle and the problem seemed to be getting worse.
1998 Chevrolet Blazer 4wd SUV - unwanted application of the antilock brake system at low speeds cause increased stopping distances.

Consumer applied the brakes, and the pedal went to the floor. Consumer was able to stop the vehicle by pumping the brakes consecutively three times. Then, vehicle stopped on its own. Consumer drove the vehicle to the dealer, but mechanic could not duplicate the problem. Consumer informed the mechanic that this problem occurred more than once.
Unwanted abs activation and extended stopping distance during low-speed breaking on my s-10 2001 Blazer. The problem occurs numerous times a day on a daily basis. I have adjusted my stopping pattern to allow for the initiation of the unwanted abs activation.
Going about 30 mph to enter freeway on onramp, I put on my brakes as traffic was slowing. Traffic then slowed quickly and I pushed brakes down harder and pedal went to the floor and car didnt stop causing me to hit the back for the car in front of me. I contacted the dealership and was told that was a problem with abs brakes at slower stopping speeds and that nothing could be done to correct it and that nothing would show on the computer. I called a brake shop and was basicly told the same thing. That abs brakes at slow speeds are a problem, they could put it on a machine to check codes but were 99. 9% sure as usual it would show nothing.
When driving over bumps the anti lock brakes would lock up causing the vehicle to have extended stopping distance.
2000 Blazer anti-lock brakes do not stop the vehicle. Two years ago this caused an accident when I hit the car in front of me at a stop sign. The vehicle had done this quite a few times before this, both in wet and dry weather. I had the vehicle looked at by two different dealerships and they could find nothing wrong. I currently keep the anti-lock brakes unplugged as they are not safe. You think you are stopping and then the car lunges forward as the brake acts up. The accident caused me to get a ticket and have higher insurance premiums.
Brakes would not work. Experienced extreme difficulty in braking vehicle. In order to stop vehicle, had to apply pressure with both feet.
I have experienced several problems with my 1996 Chevrolet s10 Blazer including problems with my anti-lock braking system after talking to two other peolple that have experienced the same problem with the same model vehicle I decided to look for recalls and indeed there are several recalls on this model none of witch I have been informed I alond with a close friend of mine depend on our Blazers to transport our child to and from school. The heater cores are also defective I believe gm is respobsible and I will hold them liable if they do not fix these defects and an accident should occur.
Applied brakes to stop quickly due to stopping traffic. The abs system seem to hardly stop the vehicle at all. It just seemed to keep going. Vehicle stops fine when abs not involved.
While driving and applying the brakes pedal go all the way down and took longer to stop. Dealer has inspected vehicle, and could not duplicate or correct the problem.

When utilizing the brakes, normally or in an emergency, the mechanism lock causes the vehicle to continue to move. The brakes regularly click when stepped on. A 'manager' at the office of the president at Chevrolet na stated there is no problem with the way the vehicle stops. When I insisted, he stated next time perhaps I 'should buy a Toyota". I am afraid to drive the vehicle except for very short trips and not on any main street or highway. This happens repeatedly. The latest date is reflected below.
The vehicle is equipped with abs. On multiple occasions, when I attempted to stop the vehicle the wheels locked and the vehicle went into a skid. The skid (slid) is a safety issue since it causes a reduction in steering control which could result in an accident.
Abs brake system; consumer took vehicle to two dealers. They had no record of recalls. Vehicle grabbed/released/ kept sliding, and would not stop.
While applying brakes at low speed, intermittently brake pressure caused pedal to harden. More pressure needed to be applied on brake pedal to get vehicle to stop. Dealer was not notified at this time. Feel free to provide any further information.
While driving at 5-10 mph consumer tried to slow down, and when applying brakes vehicle made a buzzing noise, and did not stop. Vehicle ran into another vehicle. *akconsumer explains that there was plenty of room for the vehicle to come to a complete stop but because of the defect with the brakes, consumer hit the vehicle in front. It was as if vehicle was operating on ice. Consumer is convinced that this is a problem straight from the factory.
Car accelerated to 70mph when I when to downshift to get off a major highway ramp. I pressed on the brake and lost my brakes. I turned off the key to stop. I was traveling on a major highway in maryland and at that time of day traffic was light. I could have caused a major accident due to this acceleration problem and killed someone or been killed myself. This is a major safety issue that needs to be addressed now!!!!!!!.
While traveling on highway, without prior warning, brake pedal went all the down to the floor. Dealership was aware of problem. At 10-15 mph on wet road the brakes locked up and the vehicle skidded colliding with another vehicle. There were no injuries.
I have been reporting this problem at least six times between three different dealers. They all can never find anything wrong. No safety defect listed.
Consumer states when applying brakes, abs has a thumping sound and there is long stopping distance. Dealer advised this was normal.
When applying brakes in a panic stop pedal went to the floor, causing extended stopping distance, and resulting in a collision. Please provide further details if needed.
Abs braking system does'nt kick in at all. Also, when applying brakes vehicle shakes and vibrates. Consumer took vehicle to dealership for manufacturer's recall 9041 repairs of abs braking system. Currently vehicle is worse than it was at first.
