Anti-lock braking system is inoperative. Dealer has been contacted. Consumer stated brakes release under hard braking, when on loose surface such as sand or wet pavement.

Brakes routinely do not effectively stop. They "lock" give off a clicking sound, and the truck slides instead of stopping. It is my understanding that chevy Blazers "just do that. Traveling 63mph approaching slowing/stopping traffic from a distance. Gradually began slowing vehicle and applying increased brake pressure. Traffic then stopped, applied heavy pressure-both feet on pedal, hands braced on wheel and body thrust back in the seat. Brake pedal was soft and to the floor and vehicle did not stop. Abs did not work - no "chk, chk, chk" sound and no pulsating. Resulted in rear end collision. Noticed that an abs recall exists for model of vehicle manufactured in same month/year (NHTSA campaign id#: 99v193000) but was told by Chevrolet that this vehicle is not included because it is a 1997 model.

Slowing to a stop with foot on brake, behind a small pickup truck which had a wall board extending out of rear of truck, had full pressure on brake pedal, and vehicle started to jump up and down. Had to hold foot on brake pedal and shift into park; engine speeded up, and was able to shut off engine. Consumer thought computer on brakes malfunctioned. However, dealer could not find anything wrong.

Dealer called consumer and stated that he called the manufacturer, and they stated that he did not have to do the work free of charge. Vehicle was not checked/ repaired because dealer insisted consumer was obligated to pay.

When applying brakes under normal braking conditions pedal dropped down to the floor and there was no pumping sensation, causing extended stopping distance. Vehicle crashed into the rear of vehicle in front. This happened on a smooth road surface and in dry weather. The truck is being repaired. Please provide any further information.
