The brake lights in the back of my 01 chevy Blazer go out from time to time. We got the recall info from chevy and took it to the dealer. Chevy said they fix the problem before we had the car thus they are off the hook for any liability. We bought the car used with only 20,000 miles and the problem still is occurring with the car. The cost to fix this problem is close to 1000 dollars and I feel that the problem is still occurring even though the manufacturer said they fixed it. I feel that chevy should still fix this problem because it's obvious it wasn't done right on the first attempt and more importantly it's a very dangerous situation.

2001 Blazer has defective brake lights. This is intermittent, and is related to the hazard flasher switch assembly. There is a recall on this issue for selected vins. Gm will not cover this problem on my vehicle which has experienced this problem at least 2 times in the past year.
- the contact stated that the brake light switch on 2000 Chevrolet Blazer, did not turn on when brakes wer applied. The contact took the vehicle into the dealership to be serviced ,and was informed that they could not diagnose the failure. Neither the road conditions nor the weather were factors in the failure.
The contact stated while parked at a bank smoke came from the steering column. When he took the vehicle to the dealership , they found that the brake lights and turn signals were not working. The turn signal assembly was replaced and there have been no further problems.
The brake lights and hazard lights were not working, there was no recall but a service bulletin. It has been fixed twice, and currently consumer has to pay out of pocket to fix it. Called the dealership, they had no record. But went to mechanic shop, they had a record. Contacted gm, they also had it on record for the bulletin, and they contacted the dealer. This first happened about a week ago on July 10, 2005. Replaced the battery, but the brake lights and hazard lights did not work, checked the fuses, and went to repair shop the put in new switches and still did not.
Paid for replacing multi function switch which was covered bt recall #01073 stop lamps/hazard lamps inoperative.
Both the brake lights and hazard lights were inoperable. Consumer contacted the manufacturer, and was notified that this vehicle is not included in the hazard light NHTSA recall 01v364000.
(1) we own a 2001 Blazer. In the past our vehicle has been rear ended twice, my wife suffered a neck injury in the 1st accident. The 2nd accident just happened about a month or so ago. (2) 2-19-2005 I was following my wife home ,after having my other vehicle serviced, and noticed the stop lamps were not working. I got on the internet ,& found there was a recall for 2000--2002 Blazers with the exact same problem NHTSA recall 01v364/gm. (3) I called gm at 1-800-222-1020 gave them my VIN number, they said my vehicle was not part of the recall . But I should take to vehicle to a gm dealer as soon as possible ,have the multi-switch repaired,& they would reimburse me for the expenses then ,the first person I spoke with never called me back as they stated they would,I called him back twice. After no response I called ,& spoke with another person , she was going to call the location I had the multi-switch replaced,& call me back , her CO-worker called me ,& told me she was in a meeting ,& I should call her back. Since then I have called her back 3 times, just got her voice mail ! still waiting to hear back from her. I can not believe gm is not taking this safety problem serious!! my wife,& children could have been killed because of this defect. If our Blazer is not part of a recall then gm must be trying to hide this problem!.
While driving consumer was stopped by police due to the rear driver's side and passenger's side brake lights and hazard lights being out. Consumer took vehicle to the dealer for inspection mechanic informed the driver that this vehicle was not on a recall. Consumer had to pay for repairs. The consumer stated that the lower brake lights were in-operative.
While driving at any speed stop lamps and rear hazard lamps malfunctioned. Dealer indicated sorry this vehicle was not included in the recall. (recall number 01v-364).
While vehicle was parked and consumer was taking the key from the ignition switch steering wheel caught on fire, independent mechanic determined that hazard warning switch melted, and caused the fire. Also, turn signal and brake lights were inoperative.
Consumer started the vehicle and pressed the gas pedal but the vehicle did not move. The consumer applied pressure to the accelerator, and it took little while for the vehicle to start moving. The dealer inspected the vehicle three times and could not resolve the problem. The consumer stated the transmission made some noises, the dealer discovered some parts of the transmission were damaged, however days later the vehicle went back to not accelerating and the engine racing. The consumer was told that the manufacturer would extended the warranty on the transmission. The brake light was inoperative there was a clicking noise in the drivers seat.
I have a 1997 cherolety Blazer and have the exact same problem that the model year 2000-2001 recall covers. My bottom brake lights are inoperative as well as my hazard lights. The upper center brake light works fine. If I push my hazard switch to the side, my bottom brake lights work and the top one doesn't. I have already called gm and have no satisfaction after explaining the situation. This brake light/hazard signal is also a problem on the 1998 models. I have researched this on the internet and found many owners of earlier models trying to figure out why their brake and hazard lights do not work. Is there a way to get gm to include earlier model year suvs into this recall?.

While expecting the vehicle noticed that the brake light doesn't appear at all.
Faulty multi-function switch. Controls the hazard and brake light operation.
Three years ago the problem began. The owner pulled over to the side of the street and when the hazard lights were turned off then brakes went off as well and would not come back on. The main tail lights and brake lights did not work anymore. There was a recall and the owner did not receive the recall notice. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for service and the hazard light switch was replaced. The next time the hazard lights were used, the brake lights stopped working again. This happened about ten months after the first failure. Then the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, they were willing to repair the hazard lights at a cost of $500. There seemed to be no indication from the dealership as to why these hazards lights kept failing. The dealership has been contacted by the owner at least 7 times in last month and a half. The owner attempted to work it out with gm 10 times in the last month and a half.
The 4 ways do not work and are effected by the same components as the brake lights. Since the brake lights sometimes work but most of the time do not, the dealership will not replace these lights. The dealership stated that they worked today when they checked them out and said there was no recall on this particular part. My concern is my family getting rear-ended by another vehicle or me getting pulled over by a police officer and getting a ticket. This is a serious problem that could possibly affect other people as well as my passengers.
Brake lights have failed.
The brake and hazard lights do not come on at all making drivers any passengers very unsafe and vulnerable to rear end crashes on the roadway.
Consumer stated the brake lights on vehicle is not working. This happens intermittenly. Nlm.
I learned of a recall of 2000 and 2001 gm vehicles relating to brake light failure. I contacted gm and they refuse to honor or issue recall stating my vehicle is not affected or covered by VIN. It's rear brake lights do not work despite replacement of all bulbs and fuses.
Both the brake lights and turn signals suddenly stopped working. When I took the car into the dealer, they informed me immediately that this problem was occurring on many similar vehicles. They confirmed that the problem was caused by the failure of the "multi function switch". In fact, this problem was so wide spread, the part was on "national backorder" and would not be avialable 10 days to two weeks. It appears that general motors does not think that thousands of cars dirving around without brake lights or turn signals is a serious problem.
While at stop light he heard brakes of vehicle behind him. A person approached consumer, and told him that brake lights were not working. Consumer contacted a dealer, who determined a faulty multi-function switch was the cause of rear brake lights not being operational.
Brake lights go thru turn signal switch defective. Costs to replace $500. 00.
I went to have my car inspected when I was informed that I had no brake lights. The station where I got the inspection told me this was not the only gm car they had seen with this problem. They told me they had seen this afew times in thelast month. I went to my dealership and they told me I needed a multi function switch. I called gm to form a complaint because there is no telling how long this had been like this. Lisa at gm told me that they had failures in this switch and they were looking for a more dependable source. I couldn't even get a switch for a week because of this . Driving with no brake lights could be a potentially hazardous situation. I'm reporting this so someone doesn't loose their life over these defective switches. Please contact me if you need additional information. Thank you, joel collins.
