2 Turn Signal Flasher Unit problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 02/26/2004

Turn signal flasher unit continues to "click" when turn signals are not in use. Lights do not flash. Clicking stops when brakes applied. Appears that this problem has been ongoing in gm SUV's since mid 80's. Recall has been issued for some 2000-2002 gm SUV's. Problem appears to be with the lubricant used in the turn signal multifunction switch. Gm fix is to replace switch and wait for next failure.

Failure Date: 09/01/2003

Following is part of the background first submitted 9/6 to chevy for a major safety issue with our 1999 Blazer . . . Closely related to a recent gm recall for faulty hazard and turn signal lights. Our hazard/blinker flasher just started (9/1) turning on/clicking intermittently for no apparent reason . . . Doing so randomly about half the time. This concerns us for our safety . . . As we are now constantly making both kinds of major safety errors that can happen with this defect: we frequently think the blinkers are on for a turn were making, when in reality they are not, but the flasher is clicking just like they are on, so we wrongly think they are on. The other error is that we have accidentally turned the blinkers on and don't realize it since the flashing noise is happening so much. The major reason for our concern is a statement from our local chevy service tech around our exact issue . . . As our exact concerns/issues stem from a well known/documented safety issue with Blazers (per the words of our chevy service tech around our exact issue, & this has been a big/major problem with Blazers & . . . And '90% of the time a defective multi-function switch/contacts is responsible for the identical symptoms we were experiencing', and indeed unique to chevy/GMC. ) given how emphatic/honest the service tech was with us, you should be able to readily substantiate his statement through chevy's records around repairs for this problem. As such, our safety issue is clearly: a well known/documented safety design issue with Blazers, and related to the recent safety recall for gm flashers; with our Blazer only a year off of the recalled vehicle age; unique to chevy, and as such, not 'normal wear/tear that should be expected'). We very much appreciate the opportunity to forward our concerns to your agency, and look forward to hearing from you on your latitude to pursue this further after continual rejections from chevy. Thank you in advance.

6 Turn Signal Flasher Unit problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 01/01/2003

There was a recall on our 1995 s-10 truck and our 1998 Chevrolet blazier has the exact same part and is also defective also. The windshield wipers on our 1998 blazier donot work some times they won't work other times and sometimes they won't shut off. Our gas pedal sticks when you try to take off.

7 Turn Signal Flasher Unit problem of the 1996 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 09/27/2002

Turn signals not working. At first noticed fast flashing of indicator on dash, then noticed slow flashing, and then no flashing, just a steady indicator light, and finally, no indicator light at all. Bought a flasher at napa auto parts, thinking I could just replace it, but I couldn't find the flasher. Went to the dealer to inquire about the replacement of the flasher and they said Chevrolet has designed the turn signal system so that the enitre dashboard has to be removed to replace the flasher which will take approx. 2 hours of labor, costing over $200. That is outrageous! they also said there is a recall on the multi-function switch which controls the hazard lights and turn signals, (#o1v364000) but that my vehicle is not included in the recall. The dealer said that the recall may be extended to other vehicles, and I could get reimbursed. I sure hope so. It's rediculous to have to pay over $200 to replace a flasher or replace a defective switch. Dt.

8 Turn Signal Flasher Unit problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 08/01/2001

Transmission replaced after 2 years of hassle, new transmission shifts hard but dealer states all transmissions run that way. Turn signal/windshield wiper module replaced twice, turn signal continued to click after turned off, windshield wipers turned on by itself. Driver's mirror replaced twice due to vibration and continues to vibrate, dealer refused to replace a third time due to a bugshield being installed even though mirror vibrated before bugshield was installed. Vehicle was bought at grubbs Chevrolet but has been serviced for the past two years at lowe Chevrolet in waynesville mo.

10 Turn Signal Flasher Unit problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 01/15/2001

Problem with lane change feature in turn signal switch. Lane change signal will operate front or rear signal indicator indepentalty or just give audio acknowledge for flash with no indicators illuminated. In many cases the only indication is the flasher will flash at a more rapid rate. Many gm cars and trucks have this problem and it is very dangerous because the operator does not know that an indicator is not illuminated because the dash indicator is operating and one or more outside (front or rear) indicators will not be operating.
