The grommet on door hinge is worn due to misalignment of door which caused the door latch to hit the striker improperly. This resulted in the striker bending and eventually caused too much pressure on the door well causing the body frame to crack. According to the body shop estimator this is extremely common in Chevrolet Blazers.
1) misalignment of driver side door observed; followed by awareness of increasing wind noise while driving 2) removal, repair, and replacement will increase with time; $250 for pin and bushing replacement, up to $1,200 for complete door hinge replacement 3) removal and replacement of pin and bushing on drivers door recommended.
A few weeks ago driving home from work in a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer, and coming around corner the door hook and caused the door to open. Took vehicle to dealer, and they said to take it back to the dealer (sun Chevrolet), and they said it wasn't their fault because she didn't lubricate the door once a month. Contacts husband welded the door hook back on, but now the door will not completely shut, causing the lights to stay on and the battery to run down. The automobile manual did not state for contact to lubricate doors once a month. The passenger side door is now doing the same thing. The back gate will not open either.

There was no events leading up to this failure. . . The problem is the body frame around the striker plate on the drivers side door, is ripping apart. This vehicle is 3 years old, and has never been in an accident. This is not being caused by rust. This is a defect in the manufacturing of the vehicle.
Consumer noticed that hood lever failed to open and driver's door handle failed to release in order to lock. Consumer contacted the dealer for an appoint to inspect and repair vehicle.
Rear driver's side door. Could not close. Vehicle was taken to a dealership, and floor manager indicated one of the hinges broke , and would cost $175. 00 at consumer's expense.
I opened the drivers door on my 2003 Chevrolet Blazer with only 13,000 miles and the door dropped down in my hands. The pins that hold the door hinge had partly lifted out. It would not have been out of the question for the pin to have fallen out completly in which case the hinge would have come completely apart and the door would have fallen off the vehicle. When I called the chevy dealer they were well aware of the problem. Apparently this happens all the time with s10 pickiups and Blazers. Aside from the frustration of such a shoddy design I am afraid to think of the effect of such a failure at 65 mph or of a door coming off in an accident as a result of faulty hinges.

Most recently we had to replace the hinge on the front door, driver side, it failed and fell on to the ground. To replace it cost us $43 at a body shop, the dealership wanted $300 to replace it. When the Blazer was brand new I took it back to the dealership they told me that it was dry and lubricated it, they told me to use wd-40. When we had it replaced the body shop found the door frame at the strike plate had broken and deteriorated making it impossible to lock the door. The body shop told us that the second problem probably cause the first problem. The factory rep said it was my fault because I must of closed the door to hard and that it was our problem. To repair the second problem will cost us $300. The other problem is the passenger door inside panel has broken loose. Also the back passenger door inside panel is also cracked which resulted in the speaker on that door not working. The factory rep said that was our fault also. I feel that these are defects that shouldn't have happened.
