Starter Problems of Chevrolet Blazer

Fortunately, I had just gotten off the freeway and was looking for an address at a slow speed. All of a sudden the car lurched; I had no steering; I lost all electrical control; the car ground to a halt; smoke came out from under the hood. I and a friend got out of the car. Fortuitously, fire trucks appeared. It turned out they were returning from another incident as I could not believe the immediacy of their response. They took over preventing further aggravation of this situation. The battery was boiling. All the electrical wire harnesses were melted. The upper suspension control arm was broken. The firemen's observation was, if I had been going any faster, the car could have flipped. After being towed to a nearby mechanic, I learned the upper control arm had broken. It impailed the starter which shorted. That melted the wiring harnesses to and from the battery, as well as being the cause of the battery boiling. The key issue is that general motors would build a vehicle where the upper control arm is so flimsy it would break. I have read other incidents of the same thing with the Chevrolet Blazer where, for example, a person was going 30mph, the car flipped, and the person was knocked unconscious. A repeated corporate failure of this nature should have consequences.

Starter went, gas gauge stopped working, rear wiper don't work, ball joints bad, alternater went, shocks went many times, anti lock breaks don't work properly. Tired of the problems!.

Vehicle stalled while driving, but will restart when key was turned in the ignition. Vehicle was serviced 5 times in which a diagnostic test was performed, no failure code found. Then, dealership removed the automatic starter system, and the vehicle only stalled once. A year later, the service engine light came on while driving. Dealership replaced the computer chip, but the light came back on.

First problem with the starter caused significant inconvenienct. For a vehicle that was brand new and had not even reached the warranty limit, this is extremely frustrating.

No major safety problems. However, signficant mechanical problems with very moderate mileage. Mechanical problems include steering linkage, water pump, starter, head gasket.

Temperature changes to celcius when raining (replaced outside sensor), rear axel noise (not found), binding in front end (not found), shifting concern (not found), coolent missing (pressure tested,no leaks), loud noise when starting (replace starter), left mirror vibrates (replace mirror).

Since I bought the truck with 33 miles, I have spent app. $2,000 on it, above the wty's and maint. 12/96 - passenger side got flooded, 9/97 recall done, sucking air sound ( not found by tech. ),1/98 - complete mait 15k + 4x4 service($235), 2/98 -f. Brakes + machined rotors ($162), gas gauge not working took, removed dash( broke hazard light) replaced gas tank sensor -3 days(rental given) 1 day later, filled the tank and the gas ran out ( a day lost at work), 1/99 - 4x4 switch replaced, 7/99 - replaced f. Brakes ,2 ball joints, new rotors,2 rear axle seals + cleaned oil out of rear brake($540), 9/99 - car doesn't start once replaced battery, serpentine belt($248), 1/00 - wipers work off+ on- replaced wiper board, replaced starter with rebuilt + wty, 2 cooler lines($799). Now when I bought the car the sales person agreed to give a rental, a new service man starts and says" I'm new and you don't get a rental unless it;s in over night" just to let you no I"m a medical assistant and just can't miss work at any time the car is in for repairs. Very disappointed.

Faulty starter resulted in vehicle catching fire under hood, replaced starter and the next day the vehicle caught fire again,possible electrical system problem.

Starter failed. Yh.

The starter shorted out and caught fire which destroyed the starter and the battery.
