Loose rattling sheet metal or other parts in drivers door pillar near sidewall airbag area. May cause serious injury if it inadvertently deploys airbag, or restricts airbag deployment in an accident. Gm has been notified of this defective problem on all Colorado and canyon models since 2016 with no actions. Other dealers have used expanding foam to attempt to secure loose parts to prevent the noise. This may hinder airbag deployment if not addressed.

I was driving slowly around 3 mph on a national forest service road when suddenly the side curtain airbags went off and seatbelts locked. The truck was in 4wd low and off road mode was active. There was no reason for these airbags to have gone off.
I was driving on sand and the side curtain airbags deployed without cause, along with the seat belt pretensioners.
On November 24th 2017, while stopping to make a right turn, my 2016 extended cab, Chevrolet Colorado 4wd turned itself off. With the brakes not working and into the intersection of a 4 way stop, I put the gear in park to stop the vehicle. I restarted and everything was normal. No accident and no injuries. On November 28, 2017, on my way home from work, while driving straight in traffic on us /route 40 in maryland, my Colorado turned itself off, brakes didn't work, resulting in rear ending the vehicle stopped in front of me. The brakes did not work, the air bags did not work (did not deploy). There was significant damage to my Colorado, and I have chest bone (sternum) injuries.

The contact stated that their son was driving approximately 5 mph when the power steering suddenly fail to cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle while driving on ice. The vehicle ended up veering off the side of the road into a ditch about 6 feet. The airbags did not deploy. The driver had no injuries and no medical attention was needed. A police report was not filed. The vehicle had to be lifted out of the ditch and then towed. There was no damage. The contact stated that the failure had reoccurred intermittently while driving at various speeds. The contact believed the check engine light, traction control, abs, and stability track warning lights and or messages become illuminated. The vehicle goes into limp mode causing the contact to have to turn the vehicle on and off several times. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage 140,000. Gl.
Air bag has squeaked incessantly since 350 miles. Dealer says no recall as of yet.
Noises coming from steering wheel from day the truck was new has been my complaint. I took the truck to the dealer several times for repairs. Gm and their dealer j. P. Chevrolet in peru, IL. Installed felt tape inside the air bag compartment the first and second attempt which did not work. Now they have smeared krytox grease on all the horn components right behind the air bag thinking this will work. Has not helped. Over and over I have asked for gm and the dealer to replace my steering wheel to no avail. Gm and j. P. Chevrolet in peru, IL. Will not do this. I am at my wits end with the run around. I truly believe gm is waiting for the years end warranty to complete so they can write it off the books and tell me it's your problem now. I hope you can help.

Several months ago I received a safety recall for this vehicle. I took the truck to my chevy dealership, they told me they could not perform the repair because the odometer had over 120,000 miles on it. My question is this, do all safety recalls no longer become safety problems when the odometer reaches a certain number ? if this is the case there must be thousands of safe unsafe vehicles on our highways due to this type of enforcement. Please tell me this is a joke.

Airbag waring light came on I feel this needs to be a recall as other Colorado owners have had the same problem.
Prepared on behalf of my father, who is the primary driver. On 2/22/2014 it was noticed that the airbag warning lamp became illuminated. Dtc indicated concern in driver's seat belt pretensioner circuit. Additional diagnosis also identified that lh rear speaker was inoperative as well. Wiring harness was inspected, identified fractured wires within the conduit boot between lh rear access door and body. The access door on this vehicle is opened and closed approximately twice per day. Basic online research identified many consumer complaints for this exact condition. Additional research through NHTSA consumer complaints identified a minimum of 15 unique complaints which identified wiring concerns, on extended cab vehicles between the access door and body, resulting in incapacitated srs systems. 10 of the 15 identified complaints specifically identify; broken, cut, or disconnected wiring failures. This failure occurs through normal operation of the vehicle. Please investigate the trend that is evident for this safety concern.
No previous issues with the airbag but after an oil change it has come on and will have to replace wiring. Unsafe and will be a costly fix for something that should not have occurred due to usage of the rear door. It is an extended cab for a reason! brakes on drivers side grab in the front. It seems to grab and slide to the left, vehicle is in alignment with regular tire rotation and tire pressure checks.
The conduit or wire cover from the cab of the truck to the extended cabs rear driver side door cuts wires in half after repeated door use. This prevents speaker from working and makes an airbag problem light display on the vehicle control panel.

I put key into on position and airbag deployed and hit me in face. My face was red & swollen on right side where I was hit by bag. My truck not moving was parked my seatbelt was out side I was getting it on when bag deployed. Gm is giving me a hard time! I keep getting 1800 customer service numbers they gave me a pac # but they have not followed up with me or dealer. I bought the truck it had 101,000 on it it has 176,000 on it now. Gm only agreed to take care of it after I told them I was in vehicle when the bag deployed. Still waiting for my truck to be fixed. Dealer told me the computer is fried so it needs bag and computer then maybe they can find out why it blew. Cost is $1500-2000 to fix they said it may do it again. So I left waiting and wondering what next? luckily I had stopped for work supplies on my way home, and did not drive straight home! otherwise, I would have been in a wreck! after it happened, I wondered why cab filled with powder. I called dealer! they could not beleive this, so I drove the truck to them. They cut bag off wheel and taped horn cover on. I returned it to them to fix. The used car dealer turned it over to a gm dealer by them and there it sits? waiting for gm to call and give gm dealership the go ahead to fix!, and for gm to call me and give me a reason for all of this!.
Another driver operating the truck. Speed limit was 25 mph, she missed the curve, went down a ditch, snapped a guide wire coming out of the ditch, and ended up in a in a front lawn. The airbag did not employ, even though there was damage to the front of the truck in the approximate amount of $3,000. 00.

2004 chevy Colorado turned on partially to the on positon to start the vechicle and the drivers airbag popped out in my face and hit me very hard . This vehicle was not hit or anything, it was in a standard parking lot and when it popped out my hearing when blank or deaf like. The vehicle was not running at the time of the explosion. Chevy thought maybe a malfunction but then advised me to go down the road to a nearby abra auto body which that guy thought chevy may be hiding a type of airbag malfunction recall, anyways chevy wouldn't estimate the price to be fixed and abra said I was looking around 1300. 00 for repair,.
My son was driving my pickup on a two lane county road in the evening, after dark, the truck crossed the center line and went off the roadway on a gentle curve in the roadway. The truck struck the end of a guardrail, went down an embankment and struck a large tree. There was no debris or skid marks on the pavement. The accident was sighted the following day by a passerby. The driver and only occupant, my son, was deceased inside of the truck. He died of blunt force trauma to the head. The air bags did not employ and the on-star communication system did not make an emergency call. The keys were in the ignition. I asked the state patrol right away about the airbags not employing, it was shrugged off, saying well sometimes they don't. I asked my insurance company to look into it and had them hold the truck for investigation but after several months they called, said they didn't need it and wanted to get rid of it, so they did. To no avail, I called Chevrolet and explained what happened and was it wasn't on a recall list and couldn't take a report. I told them maybe it should be on a list but they didn't agree. I called the state insurance commissioners office and state attorney generals office and got no where with them either. I called an attorney and the bar association and was told there was nothing that could be done and a suit would get me know where since he was not married. I called on star and they gave me their condolences. Everywhere I turned was a dead end. But I just feel it isn't right and if the airbag would have worked I would still have my son today. I got your information a couple of weeks ago from a news reporter.

I own a 2006 chevy Colorado extended cab. The wiring harness that controls the air bags, interior lights, and stereo speakers keeps breaking. I was told that it was a defect from the factory. The wires run between the cab and rear doors. I had it fixed under warranty in 2008 and again in 2009. My warranty expired right after the second fix. I have had to fix it myself twice since then. This is a safety issue since the air bags are inoperable when the wires break. I am sure there are several hundred of these trucks on the road with defective air bags since most people will not fix it. I would expect Chevrolet to extend the warranty to 100,000 miles for this problem. I would also expect gm to correct the issue so it doesn't happen again.
