My 2016 Colorado is having a power steering failure identical to the 2015 recall. Recall #16v054000 (issued February 2016) covered 2015 Colorados and canyons with the same type of electric power steering (eps) gear assembly prone to internal corrosion. Exact failure symptoms: sudden stiff steering, steering wheel locks/stiffens “service power steering” or “stabilitrak” warnings dtc codes like u0073, u0101, c0545, etc. Defective part: original gear assembly: gm part #23228020 revised torque sensor cover kit (to prevent corrosion): gm part #84344239 the vehicle has been taken to the dealership in January when this failure first occured. The dealer claimed it was due to the corroded negative battery cable. I explained that this was a known issue and a recall had been issued for the same part on the 2015 model. They refused to investigate further. On 07/14/2025 the issue resumed and repeated after restarting the vehicle till it reset no more and remained without power steering. I dropped off the vehicle and one rep informed me that this issue was due to wear and tear and that my vehicle was not on the list of recalls. I spoke to a supervisor and he said they would look into it but it did not sound promising.
The phone charger will not charge phones. Connects then disconnects within 5-10 seconds.

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer for a routine oil change and after the vehicle was serviced, the contact was provided a multi-point vehicle inspection sheet which showed that the brake pads had received a green check mark and that the brake pads were 7-millimeters or greater on both the driver’s and passenger’s side. The next day upon start of the vehicle, the contact stated that a message "new brake pads detected" question was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact selected the "no" option followed by another question to service the brake pads. The contact then stated that a "service brake pad monitoring system" message appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the dealer was informed of the messages. A mechanic inspected the vehicle and informed the contact that both the brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced. The contact was also informed that the brake pads were 2 millimeters or less, despite the contact receiving information the day prior which stated otherwise. The contact questioned the dealer about the discrepancy and was informed that the computer provided the results for the multi-point vehicle inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 27,000.
The infotainment center goes out, then comes on on a frequent basis causing the loss of navigation system through carplay and now will not even connect to carplay also loses backup camera. In addition I have noted that when the blinker is on to signal a turn, it will stop the blinker system when the infotainment center goes out, which is a safety concern with the use of blinkers to signal approaching rear traffic to the vehicle. I have contacted the dealer and also see there’s an infotainment bulletin out. I have not had a response from the dealership as of this report. I am also a certified safety professional, and the loss of turn signal in conjunction with the infotainment center outage raises a safety concern in my opinion. This has been an ongoing issue with the system for the last year or so and has progressively gotten worse to the point that the screen now goes out every minute or so for 5 to 30 seconds and now carplay will no longer connect to phone for navigation. The constant screen going black started within the last 30 days of June 2025.

I have been having intermittent issues with a warning on dash says service safety retrain system vehicle will shut off on its own doesn't want to restart vehicle was taken to dealership for a TSB as well as the shutoff issue they had the truck 28 days said they diagnosed the truck could not duplicate my concerns I also explained the issue with display going out flickering brake lights etc, intermittent issue with btakes being hard then extremely soft, I even showed video that they can clearly hear me talking on they did not care. When I picked the truck up from dealership the mileage in was same as mileage out as noted on the paperwork and matches pictures I took they never drove the truck. On Wednesday June 4, 2025 while driving home I ended up running a stop sign and barely missing a car because truck shut off causing my brakes to not respond I was able to get it to stop just in time it was witnessed by a local law enforcement agency I showed the officer my truck would not start and pedal was unresponsive was told it had to be towed had a friend tow to my house. On Saturday June 14, 2025 while on my way to northern duchess hospital the warning came on the display and vehicle shut off I was able to get it off the road could not start it had to call for someone to drive me to the hospital upon release at 5am I had to call my brother to pick me up we got truck to start after 20 mins while driving it he informed me I had no brake lights turn signals or headlight the display was black no speedometer nothing had to call friend to tow again once at my house he started checking fuses found 4 melted fuses one was ecm the others were body control module and something else this truck has 7300 miles on it the problems are getting worse last time at dealership service manager stated he wasn't wasting more than 20 minutes on diagnosing anything. Other issues are windows going down on there own climate controls coming on by itself and air coming in by top of windshield.
Not able to remove the key from the ignition.

Unable to remove ignition key. Sticks in the accessory's mode. This happens periodically and I can eventually get key out by continually moving shifter back and forth until key can be removed. Concerned that eventually this won't work. I noticed that this is the main complaint on the Chevrolet Colorado.
Pass lock. Sometimes vehicle doesn't start.

I was driving the truck and first I got a "software update needed vehicle must be parked and off" this was followed quickly be a "low tire pressure alarm" 3 times in a short distance then I got a message "antilock brake issue do not drive over 62 mph or vehicle may not stop" then the brakes began to randomly slam on and release and smoke began to come out of the air vents. The next alarm was "esv shutting down " and I lost power steering and brakes; I tried getting the vehicle off the road out of the traffic lanes and the smoke was rapidly increasing in the cab then the engine shut down and I did my best to get the truck out of the traffic lanes and flames started coming from under the hood. A man stopped to help me out of the truck and by then the engine compartment was fully involved quickly and spreading into the interior of the cab. This all happened on country roads at about 40 mph. I went to the medical center 2 days later as I was still having problems breathing from all the smoke. This was a new truck I bought in early November and only had 6900 miles on it.

Blind spot warning stopped working mirror controls (unable to safely change lanes) window controls stopped working Chevrolet has a TSB for similar but not exactly this situation, dealer won't look at it outside of warranty without charge.
Wiring harness problem resulting in loss of power to a/c, and other electrical components such as radio scrolling without being called for, only small portion on left side of touch screen works. Problem previously reported under 11516530. Dealership that sold me the vehicle and other automotive shops want $75 or more just to look at the problem. Current mileage on this vehicle is just over 50,000 miles. [xxx] living in florida and I have been without a/c since last summer. Prior to that the power steering & brakes would go out without warning. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that the 360 rearview camera would activate unintendedly while the vehicle was not in reverse(r). The contact stated that the 360 rearview camera had engaged while driving and remained engaged for an extended period of time. The contact stated that the failure had prevented him from activating the headlights as needed through the infotainment system. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the camera had failed, and the dealer informed the contact that the manufacturer did not have a fix for the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 20. The VIN was not available.
Not sure if this is your typical safety issue. Voice activation button @ rh side of steering wheel failed approx. One month after vehicle purchase. This button allows one to call out, use gps, vehicle functions, radio, etc "handsfree". Message @ infotainment screen stated "click here to purchase subscription" which I was not made aware of by anyone involved w/ sale. Cell phone will link up w/ vehicle manually for sending or receiving calls, but requires holding phone to start or end them (and pick who you want to call). . . Which is illegal in California and unsafe. Inquiring w/ onstar led to having to pay for monthly subcription to "reenable" functionality. Seeing as this is a safety item, I wonder why I would be required to pay a monthly 45. 00 fee for it to function. Had a 2015 Ford that worked perfectly. . . For free.
Complete engine failure due to defective crankshaft malfunction, truck taken to certified repair shop and then dealer, deal not responding for 24 days. Engine failed traveling on the highway was fortunately able to pull over, stranded. Engine light came on and the engine failed completely 5-10 min after on a 2 hour return trip home. Certified repair shop informed me this is the exact same reason of the recall just that my vehicle wasn’t currently under the recall. Vehicle component has been recalled on other Chevrolet vehicles manufactured during the same time just not this one yet.

Started the truck and got a brake system failure, service esc, service trailer brake system, traction control, forward colission, abs, check engine light and parking brake warning light flasing. Also the auto start feature works less than 10% of the time.
The ignition switch will frequently lock when turning off and not allow the electrical system to fully turn off and prevent you from removing the key. It happens randomly but has been increasing in frequency.

I cuts out and shuts off driving in a parking lot at 10 miles an hr and while driving on the freeway going 65. Started 6 months ago but has gotten worse. The computer system on dash goes black and will start randomly changing stations, or freeze and now it's changing on the steering column and engine light is on.

My 2016 Colorado has been having the infamous power steering and stabilitrak issue that stems from a poor connection in the steering rack (to my understanding). While driving the power steering will randomly go out, making it extremely difficult to turn. It has nearly caused an accident while driving when it went out mid turn. Usually stopping, turning the truck off, then back on will temporarily resolve the issue but it reoccurs nearly every trip.
I purchased this Chevrolet Colorado knowing there was a potential problem in which the vehicle's battery is drained overnight during an over the air update; I had hoped gm would have a fix by now (but it does not seem they do). From what I've read, along with my own experience, the vehicle is prompted to update software, but in the process of updating, the "computer" system freezes, though the software continues to try and update, thus draining the battery dead. When this happened to me I measured the battery voltage at 4. 4 volts. . . Which in many cases can be lethal to a 12-volt battery. Fortunately I was able to get a boost from a tow truck driver, who then drove my vehicle onto his truck. The dangerous part of this problem is timing. I camp and overland in remote areas. Should this happen when I am miles from service or outside of cell range, I could be vulnerable to all sorts of negative forces. Fortunately, the vehicle was seen at a local dealership, but aside from fixing an unrelated recall and updating the stereo, best I understood I am still vulnerable to this problem occurring again.
P2738 pressure control solenoid valve 6 control circuit low voltage. Whenever you drive, the transmission will go into limp mode every now and then. It will say low oil pressure and throw another code of p0700 mil request from tcm. This is a common issue that I have researched and would like to know a way forward. I've only had the vehicle for 6 months. Within city limits as long as you don't push the accelerator too much (50mph within 2 minutes) it runs ok until the vehicle comes to a stop. Also, when you get on and off of the freeway, same issues make it go into limp mode in which you will have to shut the truck off and start up after a few minutes to reset.
Touch screen not responsive, apple carplay unavailable can’t connect phone, will randomly tap apps and puts calls on hold. Will flip pages on its own and even turn the back up camera on when driving down the road.
I purchaced a new 2024 chevy Colorado, the truck had 193 miles on the odometer when the brakes failed. When I stepped on the brake to put my truck into gear the pedal became spongy and brakes were severely diminished. I had to force the pedal to the floor to stop the truck at idle. I shut the truck off and restarted, it continued. I called the dealer, they sent a truck with trailer to take it back to the shop. They verified the condition and diagnosed the problem. I was told the ebc and master cylinder failed. The warning on the dash came on at the same time as I realized the brakes were not working.
1. ) while driving signalling for a right hand turn and then subsequently completing the right hand turn, the vehicle then signals left on its own accord. This is distracting for the driver and confusing to other motorists on the road. 2. ) blind spot monitoring system frequently turns on and or blinks rapidly (effects both driver and passenger side mirrors sporadically) when no other vehicles in the same vicinity. Distracting to driver who then is prompted to look around for vehicles that are not there. Quite often the trucks blind spot monitors light up when not a single other vehicle is on the road anywhere. This takes place on full size two lane roads and wide open multi lane highways where there are no objects near the vehicle whatsoever.
Key can't be removed when the truck is in park. Locks go up and down when vehicle is moving. Transmission stuck in 3rd gear. Stabilitrack and traction control indicator lights appear on dashboard. Exhaust brake and traction control switches don't work.
When truck is put into park the key will not turn to the unlocked position, the key only goes as far as the accessories position. Not sure that the truck actually goes into park since I can not remove the key without playing with the shifter. This is a continuous problem with the truck.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated while driving approximately 5-30 mph on several occasions, and occasionally while reversing out of a parking spot, the forward collision avoidance emergency automatic braking system unintendedly activated and stopped the vehicle. The contact stated that several undisclosed warning lights were illuminated. Additionally, the check engine warning light had illuminated 30-35 days after purchasing the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the front collision wiring system, the electronic control unit, and the evaporative emissions control system needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was possibly already repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 24v133000 (electrical system, forward collision avoidance); however, the failure occurred. The vehicle was taken to another dealer, grieco Chevrolet of delray beach (2605 s federal hwy, delray beach, FL 33483) where it was diagnosed and determined that the front collision wiring system, the electronic control unit, and the evaporative emissions control system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 8,300.
The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel was stiff and difficult to turn in either direction. In addition, the passenger’s side mirror failed to illuminate while another vehicle was passing by as intended. The messages "reduced acceleration", "service steering", and "service drive train" were displayed on the instrument panel. The esc warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed; however, the cause of the failure was not yet determined. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost automotive power. The vehicle was not repaired, and the failure became progressively worse. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 3,000.
Side object sensors go off frequently when no vehicles are there on both sides of vehicle. Additionally when passing vehicles the side object sensors only detect vehicles about 40% of the time. The side object sensors will double flash when no vehicles are there and fight me when changing lanes when lane assist is on. I have video of the false alerts and non detection incidents.
07-01-23 vehicle died out, wouldn't start, got jumped, still wouldn't start. No indicator lights or warnings. Towed vehicle to the dealership, where it was for 11 1/2 months with the determination it was the ecm and harness. Which it took that long to get. The vehicle was given back 06-14-24, even though it was in running condition, it was discovered parts were missing. Dealership put on order, received by end of July and installed. November 13, 2024, vehicle died out while driving on the freeway. Dashboard lit up everything, had to get the vehicle towed back to dealership. I have the onstar diagnostics indicating the same components as the original reason the vehicle was held for an approximate year. Dealership now has vehicle and we have to wait for them to do a diagnostic.
I believe there should be a recall for the known chafing issues for the engine wire harness. This happened to my truck this past year around September/November of 2024 and didn't get a fix until June 25. There are TSB's out for other models as well as mine regarding the wire chaffing. It shorts out intermittently and cause all kinds of warning lights to go off, (check stabilitrak, check 4x4, etc) the vehicle usually did a bunch of stop and go jerks when it would do this then go into limp mode. I even had it stall completely on me and the steering wheel locked up. I think they had to disconnect the battery or something to get the key out. I've been on several different forum pages trying to find the issue and I have seen it happen on relatively new vehicles as well. Lucky for them they are under warranty but dealers still giving them a hard time on this issue. I believe this poses a safety issue and there should be a recall on this. Besides that, no one should have a perfectly good vehicle and have to pay 4000-7000 dollars to replace a wire harness because of a manufacturer design defect which seems will eventually cause this issue though it had happened on newer models as well. The bulletin #specific to my vehicle is pit5626d but there are other bulletins for other engines/models.
Beginning at approximately 80,000 miles I began to notice I could not remove the key from the ignition switch at times. Turning the vehicle on and off, shifting repeatedly into park, turning the steering wheel and pressing the brake had no effect. I now have 90,000 miles and the problem occurs about half of the time when trying to exit the vehicle. It is dangerous to leave the vehicle with the key still in the switch. I called the dealership and they said they were familiar with the problem and if it was like others they had encountered, it would require changing out the shifter mechanism. I took the Colorado to the dealership on 9/10/2025 and the diagnostics showed that it was a switch problem in the shifter. The repair was $720. 15 which I had completed. The shop people said it was a fairly frequent issue with that model and some others.
Chevy shifter control gets stuck in a position that does not allow the car to recognize when it is in park and release the key out of the ignition switch. Yes, it is available upon request. Safety is at risk as the vehicle is not recognizing when the car is in park, could lead to further problems when in park. The problem occurs more often than not when switching the car into park, car must be turned back on on off multiple times to release the key or popping the shift release to trip part into engaging and thus releasing. The car was taken in today to a chevy dealer for a $900 diagnostic and fix which was not performed, many complaints and issues with other newer chevy owners about the issue. No warning lights or tripped codes on code scanner.
The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated while driving 75 mph, the cruise control feature was intermittently inoperable causing the vehicle to lose automotive power. The blind spot mirror sensor warning light intermittently failed to illuminate when another vehicle was passing by the vehicle. The turn signal lights intermittently activated the opposite turn signal light after the turn was completed. The pedestrian detection warning light was intermittently illuminated. The failures occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer on several different occasions to be diagnosed; however, the cause of the failure was undetermined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000.
The key will not come out after park and engine turn off. It getting harder and harder each time to get the key out.
